Turiba - Marupe 98-92

Turiba outgunned Marupe in the opener. It looked good early as Marupe took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Turiba had a 29-21 second period charge getting the lead and Marupe was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 92-98. They outrebounded Marupe 39-22 including a 29-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Turiba players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Marupe was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. Power forward Rihards Adins (200-94) stepped up and scored 23 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and swingman Davids Muiznieks (196-94) chipped in 23 points and 6 rebounds. At the losing side forward Armands Senkans (200-90) responded with 25 points and guard Karlis Vecens (185-95) scored 18 points and 6 assists. Four Turiba and five Marupe players scored in double figures.

Jelgava - Livani 69-61

Jelgava held off Livani to spur ahead in the series. It looked good early as Livani took a 4-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Jelgava had a 20-11 second period charge getting the lead and Livani was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 61-69. Forward Andris Justovics (200-89) stepped up and scored 19 points for the winners and center Ronalds Elksnis (203-92, college: John Brown) chipped in 16 points and 9 rebounds. At the losing side power forward Juris Kalnins (200-93) responded with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Eduards Viksna (198-93) scored 12 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.

ViA - Ogre/Kumho Tyre 77-74

ViA narrowly edged Ogre/Kumho in the quarterfinals opener. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. ViA had a 33-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when ViA made 7 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Klavs Dubults (198-96) who helped to win the game recording 6 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Ervins Ivanovs (185-96) contributed with 18 points for the winners. ViA's coach Roberts Zeile used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Guard Raimonds Pabrieza (189-88) answered with 23 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and power forward Janis Lasmanis (199-87) added 13 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Ogre/Kumho Tyre. Four Ogre/Kumho Tyre players scored in double figures.

Kekava - Limbazi 92-64

Kekava cruised past Limbazi for the opening win. The game without a history. Kekava led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Kekava outrebounded Limbazi 50-28 including a 16-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. Forward Nauris Miezis (189-91) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and forward Agnis Cavars (196-86) chipped in 15 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists. Cavars is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Kekava players scored in double figures. Kekava's coach Edgars Teteris felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side guard Vents Veinbergs (188-93) responded with 15 points and 5 assists and forward Rolands Brencs (198-86) scored 14 points and 4 assists.

Dragons Rhoendorf (ProB) added to their roster 25-year old Latvian center Ronalds Elksnis (203-92, college: John Brown). He played last season at BK Jelgava/BJSS in Latvian LBL2. In 34 games he recorded 11.7ppg, 6.4rpg, 2.3apg and 1.0spg. Elksnis helped them to win the LBL D2 title. Lauris Blaus (ex Valmiera) agreed terms with Energa Czarni - 2 days ago
Energa Czarni Slupsk (PLK) inked 27-year old Latvian center Lauris Blaus (208-110kg-90). He played most recently at Valmiera/ORDO in Latvian LBL league. In 40 games he recorded 9.9ppg and 4.8rpg last season. Blaus helped them to make it to the semifinals. He also played 16 games in Baltic League where he averaged 10.1ppg, 4.8rpg and 1.3apg.
