There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in LBL.

The most exciting game of round 29 in the LBL took place in Ogre. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 8th ranked BK Ogre (12-19) to fifth ranked Barons Riga (15-14) 91-89 on Wednesday evening. BK Ogre was trailing by 6 points at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 20-15 charge of Barons Riga, which allowed them to win the game. The best player for the winners was American guard Tyler Larson (190-91, college: S.Dakota) who scored 29 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Center Davis Rozitis (215-90, college: Hawaii) chipped in 17 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international forward Janis Poznaks (203-83) produced 24 points and 6 rebounds for the hosts. Barons Riga moved-up to fourth place. BK Ogre at the other side dropped to the seventh position with 19 games lost. They share it with Jurmala. Barons Riga are looking forward to face league's leader Ventspils on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. BK Ogre will play against Latvijas Universitate (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Jekabpils (16-14) against sixth ranked VEF Riga (13-4) on Thursday night. Visiting Jekabpils were defeated by VEF Riga in a tough game in Riga 73-79. The former international Janis Blums (191-82) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 assists. Martins Meiers contributed with 21 points for the winners. Roberts Stumbris (199-93) answered with 28 points (perfect behind the arc making all six shots !!!) for Jekabpils. Jekabpils' coach Rudolfs Rozitis rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. VEF Riga maintains sixth place with 13-4 record. Jekabpils at the other side keep the third position with 14 games lost. VEF Riga will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Jekabpils will play on the road against the league's second-placed Valmiera and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Liepaja/Triobet. Folarin Campbell stepped up and scored 15 points and 5 assists for the winners. Ventspils' coach Karlis Muiznieks used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Carl Montgomery responded with 17 points and 8 rebounds. Ventspils have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 27-3 record. Loser Liepaja/Triobet dropped to the fifth position with 16 games lost. Ventspils will meet at home Barons Riga (#4) in the next round. Liepaja/Triobet will have a break next round.
Leader Ventspils delivered the twenty seventh victory. This time they beat 7th ranked Jurmala (12-19) 88-71. Maris Gulbis nailed 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Ventspils have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 27-3 record. Jurmala at the other side keeps the seventh position with 19 games lost. Ventspils' next round opponent will be Barons Riga (#4) at home.

The game with biggest result difference took place in Riga. Local Barons Riga (15-14) outscored 7th ranked Jurmala (12-19) 94-72 on Sunday night. The game was mostly controlled by Barons Riga. Jurmala was better in fourth quarter 18-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Barons Riga forced 19 Jurmala turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was Davis Geks (192-95) who scored 24 points. There was no surprise when 8th ranked BK Ogre (12-19) was defeated on the road by second ranked Valmiera (20-10) 101-91 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 56-43 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely BK Ogre outrebounded Valmiera 40-27 including a 16-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. The best player for the winners was American point guard Damier Pitts (177-89, college: Marshall) who scored 17 points and 6 assists. The former international Martins Laksa (200-90) chipped in 17 points. Pitts is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Valmiera's coach Uvis Helmanis allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The former international forward Janis Poznaks (203-83) produced a double-double by scoring 28 points and 11 rebounds and forward Karlis Apsitis (200-92) added 11 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Defending champion maintains second place with 20-10 record having seven points less than leader Ventspils. Loser BK Ogre dropped to the seventh position with 19 games lost. Valmiera will face Jekabpils (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Very important is a road loss of third ranked Jekabpils (16-14) against sixth ranked VEF Riga (13-4) on Thursday night. Visiting Jekabpils were defeated by VEF Riga in a tough game in Riga 73-79. It looked good early as Jekabpils took a 7-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then VEF Riga had a 19-9 second period charge getting the lead and Jekabpils were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 73-79. VEF Riga dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Jekabpils' 22 and made 17-of-19 charity shots (89.5 percent) during the game. The former international Janis Blums (191-82) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 assists. International center Martins Meiers (208-91) contributed with 21 points for the winners. Leader Ventspils delivered the twenty seventh victory. This time they beat 7th ranked Jurmala (12-19) 88-71. Jurmala was tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. Ventspils made 23-of-23 charity shots (100 percent !!!) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Ventspils especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 56.3 percentage. 24 personal fouls committed by Jurmala helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Forward Maris Gulbis (200-85, agency: Players Group) nailed 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side and the former international forward Kristaps Janicenoks (196-83) accounted for 18 points (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!). Four Ventspils players scored in double figures.
