Maccabi Electra - Zalgiris 70-66

Maccabi Electra had to work very hard to beat Zalgiris 70-66 on Thursday night. Thanks to this victory the Israeli powerhouse jumped to 3-2 in Group H and booked a ticket for the Euroleague Playoffs. Zalgiris remains the only winless team in this pool with 0-5 record. Keith Langford (193-G/F-83, college: Kansas) was the leading scorer in victory with 17 points. Richard Hendrix (203-F/C-86, college: Alabama) had 11 points and 9 rebounds, while Sofoklis Schortsanitis (206-C-85) nailed 10 points. Sonny Weems (198-G/F-86, college: Arkansas) responded with 20 points at the other side. Dainius Salenga (197-F-77) and DeJuan Collins (188-G-76, college: Tuskegee) (5 rebs) had 12 and 11 points respectively. Zalgiris had an amazing start. They made 11-25 lead after just ten minutes of play, but Maccabi immediately woke up after that cutting the margin to minus 4 until the halftime. Zalgiris won the next period with 11-12 for 5-point lead before the last ten minutes, but than Keith Langford and his teammates exploded with 11-2 run as Nokia Arena was rocking. Zalgiris didn't give up and they grabbed back 65-66 lead with 1:42 remaining in the game. Langford made 4-0 series on his own and there was something more than 24 seconds to go. Sony Weems went for an open three, but Smith flew in to block the shot and tried to take it in for a slam. But he missed the dunk, Zalgiris recovered and Weems tried again, but missed from downtown. This time Hendrix corralled the rebound, was fouled and iced the game with a free throw with 7 seconds left. Maccabi will meet Barcelona in the last round of Top 16. Zalgiris will host Bennet Cantu.

Maccabi Electra: Keith Langford 17, Richard Hendrix 11+9 boards, Sofoklis Schortsanitis 10
Zalgiris: Sonny Weems 22, Dainius Salenga 12, DeJuan Collins 11+5 boards
