He made it into NCAA Sweet 16 with Cincinnati. Yancy Gates participated at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament. He tallied 7.5 points, 8.0 boards and 2.3 assists per game there. Later Yancy Gates took part at AirTran Orlando Summer League. The forward played for the Detroit Pistons averaging 4.3 points and 4.3 boards. Yancy Gates then played at NBA Pro Summer League in Las Vegas. His stats read 3.8 points and 2.8 rebounds per appearance for the Sacramento Kings.
