Forward Arturas Valeika (207-F-85) had a very impressive game in the last round for Vytautas, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 35. The 31-year old player was the main contributor (22 points, six rebounds and eight assists) to his team's victory, helping them to beat Siauliai (#10, 6-29) 100-94. Vytautas maintains the 6th position in Lithuanian LKL. Vytautas is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 18-17 record. It was one of impressive evenings for Valeika as usually he does not deliver so high stats. Arturas Valeika averages this season 10.9ppg and 5.2rpg.
The second best player in last round's games was 24-year old Donatas Sabeckis (197-F-92) of Siauliai. Sabeckis had a very good evening with a double-double of 20 points and 13 assists. Bad luck as Siauliai lost that game 94-100 to the higher-ranked Vytautas (#6, 18-17). Siauliai are still at the very bottom. 29 lost games are too many comparing to just six victories Siauliai managed to get this year. Sabeckis is a newcomer at Siauliai and despite he is not a team leader yet, every game he becomes more reliable player. Hopefully performances like the last one will happen more often.
Third on the list of top players last round was another Siauliai's star - Martynas Echodas (204-C/F-97). Echodas scored 25 points and grabbed five rebounds. Despite Echodas' great performance Siauliai lost 94-100 to the higher-ranked Vytautas (#6, 18-17). But his team cannot count on just these two top stars as they also need help of the other teammates. Siauliai can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have extremely bad season and 6-29 record places them at the very bottom of the standings. Too bad for Echodas he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Echodas has individually a great season in Lithuania. After 34 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 5.9rpg (6th best).
Other top performing players last week: 4. Ksistof Lavrinovic (209-C-79) of Lietkabelis - 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists 5. Vytenis Cizauskas (187-SG-92) of Vytautas - 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists 6. Lukas Lekavicius (180-PG-94) of Zalgiris - 19 points and 4 assists 7. Jamar Diggs (188-PG-88) of Juventus - 16 points, 3 rebounds and 8 assists 8. Vladyslav Koreniuk (210-C-94) of Siauliai - 14 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists 9. Vytautas Sulskis (200-G-88) of Juventus - 14 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists 10. Ignas Vaitkus (196-SF-93) of Nevezis - 14 points and 5 rebounds
The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
