Latvian center Kaspars Cipruss (210-C-82) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Lietkabelis, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 8. The 30-year old player was the main contributor (20 points, nine rebounds and four assists) to his team's victory, helping them to beat Naglis Palangos (#12, 0-6), the league's bottom-ranked team 82-68. Lietkabelis is placed at 6th position in Lithuanian LKL. Lietkabelis is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 2-2 record. Cipruss turned to be Lietkabelis' top player in his first season with the team. Kaspars Cipruss has solid league stats. He is in league's top in points (7th best: 13.3ppg), rebounds (2nd best: 9.0rpg) and averages impressive 68.8% FGP.
The second best player in last round's games was young Taurantas Tamosiunas (192-PG-92) of LSU-Baltai. Tamosiunas had a very good evening with 24 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists. Bad luck as LSU-Baltai lost that game 71-92 to slightly higher-ranked Neptunas (#9, 2-3). The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. LSU-Baltai dropped in the standings to second-to-the-bottom (11th) position. 4 lost games are too many comparing to just one victory LSU-Baltai managed to get this year. Tamosiunas is a newcomer at LSU-Baltai, but is already one of team's top players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 14.6ppg (#4).
Third on the list of top players last round was American guard Parrish Brown (185-G-84, agency: Hightower Law Firm) of Naglis Palangos (#12). Brown scored 20 points and passed six assists. Despite Brown's great performance Naglis Palangos lost 68-82 to the higher-ranked Lietkabelis (#6, 2-2). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Naglis Palangos can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have awful season losing so far all 6 games. Too bad for Brown he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Brown has a very solid season. In 6 games in Lithuania he scored 9.2ppg.
Other top performing players last week: 4. Arnas Butkevicius (196-SF-92) of Lietkabelis - 17 points 5. Martynas Mazeika (191-G-85) of Neptunas - 23 points and 3 rebounds 6. Deividas Dulkys (198-SG-88) of Lietuvos rytas - 19 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists 7. Nemanja Nedovic (191-PG-91) of Lietuvos rytas - 17 points and 3 rebounds 8. Olasumbo Atoyebi (203-C/F-88) of Naglis Palangos - 18 points and 11 rebounds 9. Tauras Jogela (203-F-93) of Lietkabelis - 10 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists 10. Vidmantas Sragauskis (200-F-86) of LSU-Baltai - 17 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists
The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
