There was no lack of interesting games this round. The round ended with change at the leadership position and favorites losing the games.
There was a change at the NKL leadership position after last games. Round 9 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Statyba (7-2). They were defeated by fourth ranked Mazeikiai (7-2) 72-63 on Friday night. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Statyba. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Forward Osvaldas Macernis (196-82) stepped up and scored 18 points and 4 blocks for the winners and guard Modestas Sidlauskas (193-85) chipped in 12 points and 5 rebounds. The best for the losing side was guard Martynas Paliukenas (195-93) with 15 points and 4 assists (perfect from the field making all six shots). Statyba's coach Gintautas Regina rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Mazeikiai have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Suduva-Mantinga and Statyba. Statyba will play next round against Triobet trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Mazeikiai will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Zalgiris-Sabonio in Kaunas. The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Suduva-Mantinga as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (Statyba) loss. They dropped to the fifteenth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Silute. Nafta Universitetas will play next round against Delikatesas trying to get back on the winning streak. Suduva-Mantinga will try to continue on its current victory against eleventh ranked S.Marciulionio at Vilnius. Quite upsetting was Delikatesas' (#6) home defeat in a game versus seventh ranked Zalgiris-Sabonio85-79. The best player for the winners was Marius Grigonis who scored 16 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Zalgiris-Sabonio's coach Tomas Masiulis used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Aivaras Kvedaravicius who recorded 21 points and 6 assists. Zalgiris-Sabonio (6-3) moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Olimpas. Delikatesas at the other side dropped to the eighth position with four games lost. They share it with Triobet and Zanavykas. Zalgiris-Sabonio will meet at home league's second-placed Mazeikiai in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Very important is a home loss of second ranked Meresta (7-3) against ninth ranked Olimpas (6-3) on Friday night. Host Meresta was defeated by Olimpas in a tough game in Pakruojis 65-74. It was a good game for Ignas Razutis who led his team to a victory with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Olimpas have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Zalgiris-Sabonio. Meresta at the other side dropped to the fourth position with three games lost. Olimpas' next round opponent will be Perlas-MRU (#12) in Vilnius and are hoping to win another game. Meresta will play on the road against Dzukija (#7) in Alytus. Bottom-ranked Silute managed to get a second victory, breaking the series of six consecutive loses on Friday night. This time they won against sixteenth-ranked Birstono82-76. Arturas Kaubrys stepped up with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Silute (2-7) moved-up to fifteenth place, which they share with Nafta Universitetas. Birstono lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the seventeenth position with eight games lost. Silute will face bottom-ranked Gargzdai-Bremena (#18) on the road in the next round. Birstono will play against Radviliskis.

Zanavykas recorded a loss to Triobet on the road 83-72. Meresta defeated Ezerunas-Karys on its own court 75-70. Perlas-MRU was beaten by Zanavykas in a road game 104-90. Ezerunas-Karys won against Birstono at home 71-63. The most impressive stats of the last round was 39 points (!!!) by Edgaras Stanionis of Zanavykas.
Very expected game in Vilnius where 17th ranked Gargzdai-Bremena (1-8) was defeated by thirteenth ranked Perlas-MRU (4-5) 88-78 on Friday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 88-78. Perlas-MRU made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. Forward Antanas Udras (202-92) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and forward Zydrunas Stankus (197-78, college: Campbell) chipped in 18 points. Unicaja Malaga (ACB) is close to sign 24-year old Lithuanian international forward Mindaugas Kuzminskas (205-98kg-89) who currently plays B.C. Zalgiris Kaunas in Lithuania. Kuzminskas managed to play in three leagues this year (!!!). In 19 LKL games he recorded 13.6ppg, 5.3rpg, 1.4apg and 1.6spg. He helped them to win the league title. Kuzminskas managed to play in three leagues this year (!!!). In 19 LKL games he recorded 13.6ppg, 5.3rpg, 1.4apg and 1.6spg. He helped them to win the league title. Great season indeed as he was voted to Eurobasket.com All-Lithuanian LKL 2nd Team and to the All-Star Game. Kuzminskas also played 23 games in Euroleague where he averaged 7.1ppg and 3.1rpg. He also played 20 games in VTB United League where he averaged 8.9ppg and 4.0rpg. The last season Kuzminskas played also at Zalgiris (LKL) in Lithuanian league. The team played in four different competitions (!!!) that year, and he had a chance to explore basketball on different levels. In 23 LKL games he averaged 7.8ppg and 3.2rpg. He contributed to his team winning the cup and end the regular season at the top position. Kuzminskas also played 11 games in Euroleague where he averaged 3.0ppg and 1.5rpg. He also played 4 games in Baltic League where he averaged 7.8ppg and 2.0rpg. And finally Kuzminskas played 14 games in VTB United League where he averaged 6.8ppg and 2.9rpg. He contributed to his team making it to the quarterfinals. Among other achievements Kuzminskas received Eurobasket.com All-Lithuanian LKL Player of the Year award and Eurobasket.com All-Lithuanian LKL Domestic Player of the Year award back in 2010. He was also a member of Lithuanian international program for some years. Kuzminskas played for Lithuanian Senior National Team two years ago and previously for U18 National Team in 2007. He represented Lithuania at the European Championships U20 in Rhodos (Greece) four years ago. His stats at that event were 9 games: 9.9ppg, 5.2rpg, 1.6spg, 1.2bpg, FGP: 53.4%, 3PT: 13.3%, FT: 78.9%. Kuzminskas has played previously professionally in Italy and Lithuania (Siauliai, Sakalai, Zemaitis Raseiniai and Perlas).

Nizhny Novgorod prolong the series against Zalgiris after a thrilling win in Russia. The hosts grabbed a 60:59 win on Saturday and will need another win to head back to Lithuania. Game 4 is scheduled for tomorrow in Nizhny Novgorod.
