LKL Round 11: #1 Lietuvos rytas are defeated by Zalgiris - Nov 27, 2012

There was no lack of interesting games this round. The round ended with loss of the undefeated team and favorites losing the games.

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Lietuvos rytas (3-1) in Vilnius on Monday night. Hosts were defeated by leader Zalgiris (4-0) 90-79. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Lietuvos rytas. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The guests trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 47-33 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Zalgiris shot 61.5 percent from the field and made 20-of-23 free shots (87.0 percent) during the game. 28 personal fouls committed by Lietuvos rytas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for Croatian guard Marko Popovic (185-82, college: S.Idaho JC, agency: Alti Sport) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points. Bulgarian-American point guard Ibrahim Jaaber (187-84, college: Pennsylvania) helped adding 16 points and 5 steals. The former international Renaldas Seibutis (198-85) responded with 25 points and 6 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Zalgiris have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending champion moved-up to second place. Lietuvos rytas at the other side dropped to the seventh position with one game lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Important game to mention about took place in Kedainiai. Eighth ranked Nevezis (4-4) saved a 1-point victory at home edging 3rd placed Juventus (4-3) 74-73 on Saturday evening. It was an exceptional evening for the former international point guard Vytenis Jasikevicius (187-85) who led the winners and scored 19 points. Darius Silinskis accounted for 14 points and 5 rebounds. Nevezis' coach Darius Sirtautas allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. point guard Darius Gvezdauskas (191-88) came up with 18 points and 7 rebounds for Juventus in the defeat. Nevezis have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to sixth place. Juventus at the other side keeps the third position with three games lost. They share it with Neptunas and Siauliai. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Siauliai (4-3) against seventh ranked Neptunas (4-3) on Tuesday night. Visiting Siauliai was defeated by Neptunas in a tough game in Klaipeda 83-91. The best player for the winners was Deividas Gailius who scored 17 points and 8 rebounds. Laurynas Samenas produced 26 points and 5 assists for the guests. Siauliai's coach Gediminas Petrauskas rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Neptunas have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Siauliai and Juventus. Siauliai lost third consecutive game. Neptunas will meet at home Sakalai (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Siauliai will have a break next round.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Prienai. Leader host Rudupis (7-0) defeated 3rd placed Siauliai (4-3) 96-78. Gediminas Orelikas orchestrated the victory by scoring 27 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Undefeated Rudupis have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain first place with 7-0 record. Siauliai lost third consecutive game. They keep the third position with three games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Bottom-ranked Naglis Palangos (0-9) is still winless. This time they lost on the road their ninth consecutive match to tenth ranked LSU-Baltai (2-4) 69-60 on Saturday evening. It was a great evening for Zygimantas Skucas who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds. LSU-Baltai maintains tenth place with 2-4 record. Naglis Palangos lost their ninth game in a row. They still closes the standings with nine games lost. LSU-Baltai will face higher ranked Lietkabelis (#8) in Panevezys in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.



Neptunas - Siauliai 91-83

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Siauliai (4-3) against seventh ranked Neptunas (4-3) on Tuesday night. Visiting Siauliai was defeated by Neptunas in a tough game in Klaipeda 83-91. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 6-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 91-83. Neptunas forced 22 Siauliai turnovers. The best player for the winners was international forward Deividas Gailius (200-88) who scored 17 points and 8 rebounds. Guard Marius Runkauskas (189-86) chipped in 16 points. Guard Laurynas Samenas (192-88) produced 26 points and 5 assists and American point guard Lewis Jackson (178-89, college: Purdue) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Four Siauliai players scored in double figures. Siauliai's coach Gediminas Petrauskas rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Neptunas have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Siauliai and Juventus. Siauliai lost third consecutive game.
