LKL Round 12: Neptunas crush Sakalai by record 26 points - Dec 5, 2012

The game with biggest result difference took place in Klaipeda. Local Neptunas (5-3) outscored 11th ranked Sakalai (1-6) 106-80 on Wednesday night. The game was mostly controlled by Neptunas. Sakalai managed to win fourth quarter 25-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Neptunas dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Sakalai's 44 and made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. Neptunas forced 19 Sakalai turnovers and had a 30-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Laurynas Mikalauskas (205-85, college: Virginia) who scored 26 points and 9 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). International forward Deividas Gailius (200-88) chipped in 19 points and 6 rebounds. Neptunas' coach Kazys Maksvytis felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international forward Aivaras Kiausas (199-80) who recorded 19 points and 8 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Neptunas have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Sakalai lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh position with six games lost. Neptunas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Sakalai will play at home against Lietkabelis (#6) in Panevezys and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.

In the last game of round 12 LSU-Baltai was defeated by Lietkabelis in Panevezys 89-71.

Lietkabelis - LSU-Baltai 89-71

There was no surprise in Panevezys where 10th ranked LSU-Baltai (2-5) was defeated by eighth ranked Lietkabelis (4-3) 89-71 on Tuesday. The game was mostly controlled by Lietkabelis. LSU-Baltai managed to win fourth quarter 24-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Lietkabelis shot 23 for 34 from the free-throw line, while LSU-Baltai only scored six points from the stripe. Lietkabelis had a 32-21 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by LSU-Baltai helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was center Mindaugas Kupsas (215-91) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds. point guard Karolis Babkauskas (186-91) chipped in 12 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Five Lietkabelis players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Zygimantas Skucas (200-92) who recorded 22 points and 9 rebounds and center Tomas Urbonas (215-92) added 13 points and 11 rebounds respectively. Lietkabelis moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Siauliai and Juventus. LSU-Baltai at the other side keeps the tenth position with five games lost. Lietkabelis is looking forward to face Sakalai (#11) in Vilnius in the next round and are hoping to win another game. LSU-Baltai will play on the road against Siauliai and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.

Silute (NKL) landed 25-year old small forward Taurantas Tamosiunas (192-85kg-92). He played most recently at LSU-Atletas in the RKL. Tamosiunas helped them to make it to the final. Panevezys Lietkabelis (LKL) is close to ink 29-year old Croatian international guard Ante Delas (200-88) who played last time at BCC Corvengenze Agropoli in Italy. Delas managed to play in three leagues in two countries last year (!!!). In 11 Serie A2 games he averaged 11.0ppg, 4.2rpg, 1.9apg and 1.4spg. Nevezis Kedainiai (LKL) added to their roster 24-year old Latvian small forward Roberts Stumbris (199-98kg-93). He played last season at BK Jekabpils in Latvian LBL league. In 32 games he had 14.1ppg, 5.8rpg and 1.5apg. A very spectacular season in his career as he was named to Eurobasket.com All-Latvian League Honorable Mention and to the All-Star Game.
