Best players of Lithuanian LKL round 12 - Dec 6, 2012

Laurynas Mikalauskas (205-PF-85) put on an amazing game in the last round for league's second-best Neptunas and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 12.
The 27-year old power forward had the game-high 26 points adding nine rebounds for Neptunas in his team's victory, helping them to outclass Sakalai (#11, 1-6) with 26-point margin 106-80. Neptunas is placed at 2nd position in Lithuanian LKL. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Neptunas will need more victories to improve their 5-3 record. It's Mikalauskas' second year at Neptunas and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Laurynas Mikalauskas averages this season 11.5ppg.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young center Mindaugas Kupsas (215-C-91) of Lietkabelis. Kupsas impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds. Of course he lead Lietkabelis to another comfortable win 89-71 over the lower-ranked LSU-Baltai (#10, 2-5) being unquestionably team leader. This victory allowed Lietkabelis to move up to 6th position in the standings. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 4-3 record is not bad and everything may still change. Kupsas is a newcomer at Lietkabelis and despite he is not a team leader yet, every game he becomes more reliable player. Hopefully performances like the last one will happen more often.

The third best performed player last round was former international forward Aivaras Kiausas (199-F-80) of Sakalai (#11). Kiausas scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Despite Kiausas' great performance Sakalai lost 80-106 to the higher-ranked Neptunas (#2, 5-3). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Sakalai can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 1-6 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Kiausas he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Kiausas has a very solid season. In 7 games in Lithuania he scored 8.7ppg.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Martynas Mazeika (191-G-85) of Neptunas - 22 points and 2 assists
5. Zygimantas Skucas (200-SF-92) of LSU-Baltai - 22 points and 9 rebounds
6. Tomas Urbonas (215-C-92) of LSU-Baltai - 13 points and 11 rebounds
7. Deividas Gailius (200-F-88) of Neptunas - 19 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists
8. Adomas Drungilas (203-C-90) of Lietkabelis - 11 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists
9. Evaldas Dainys (180-PG-82) of Neptunas - 13 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists
10. Karolis Babkauskas (186-PG-91) of Lietkabelis - 12 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
