The most exciting game of round 18 in the NKL took place in Kaunas. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 9th ranked Zalgiris-Sabonio (10-8) to second ranked Zanavykas (13-5) 80-79 on Saturday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Zanavykas had a 15-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Guard Edgaras Stanionis (193-88) scored 25 points and 7 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Arturs Pelss (181-87) chipped in 14 points and 6 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was forward Marius Grigonis (198-94) with 16 points. Zanavykas have an impressive six-game winning streak. Newly promoted Zanavykas maintains second position with 13-5 record behind leader Mazeikiai, which they share with Dzukija and Olimpas. Zalgiris-Sabonio lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth place with eight games lost. They share the position with Meresta. Zanavykas is looking forward to face S.Marciulionio (#10) in Vilnius in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Zalgiris-Sabonio's supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Kaunas Birstono.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Statyba (12-6) against fourteenth ranked Birstono (6-12) on Saturday night. Host Statyba was edged by Birstono in a tough game in Vilnius 77-79. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Statyba. Paulius Kleiza (195-88) notched 29 points and 7 rebounds to lead the effort and Simas Raupys supported him with 12 points and 6 rebounds. Even 32 points and 8 assists by point guard Ovidijus Varanauskas (187-91) did not help to save the game for Statyba. Birstono maintains fourteenth position with 6-12 record. Statyba at the other side dropped to the fifth place with six games lost. They share the position with Suduva-Mantinga. Birstono's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Kaunas to the arena Zalgiris-Sabonio.
NKL top team - Mazeikiai (14-4) added another victory to their record on Saturday. This time they beat eighth ranked Meresta (10-8) 76-68. The best player for the winners was Rokas Giedraitis who scored 23 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Liudas Radavicius who recorded 20 points and 4 assists. Mazeikiai have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 14-4 record. Meresta lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with eight games lost. They share the position with Zalgiris-Sabonio. Mazeikiai will meet at home Silute (#17) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Meresta will play against Ezerunas-Karys (#13) in Moletai and hope to secure a win.
A very interesting game took place in Vilnius. It ended with only one-point home defeat of 10th ranked S.Marciulionio (9-9) to fourth ranked Olimpas (13-5) 96-95 on Saturday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. It was a good game for Ignas Razutis who saved his team from a defeat with 21 points. S.Marciulionio's coach Gintaras Kruckauskas tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Olimpas have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Dzukija and Zanavykas. S.Marciulionio lost third consecutive game. They keep the tenth position with nine games lost. Olimpas' next round opponent will be Suduva-Mantinga (#5) in Marijampole. S.Marciulionio will play at home against Dzukija (#3) in Alytus.
Twelfth ranked Delikatesas (8-10) crushed at home 11th ranked Perlas-MRU (8-10) by 23 points 88-65, which is the biggest margin this round on Saturday night. Irmantas Lianzbergas scored 18 points and 7 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Delikatesas moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with defeated Perlas-MRU. Delikatesas will face bottom-ranked Gargzdai-Bremena (#18) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 18: Silute lost to Suduva-Mantinga on the opponent's court 73-89. Triobet managed to outperform Ezerunas-Karys in a home game 87-80. Bottom-ranked Gargzdai recorded a loss to Radviliskis on the road 73-68. Nafta Universitetas was defeated by Dzukija on its own court 68-80.



Suduva-Mantinga - Silute 89-73

Very expected game in Marijampole where 16th ranked Silute (4-14) was defeated by sixth ranked Suduva-Mantinga (12-6) 89-73 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Suduva-Mantinga. Silute was better in second period 16-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Forward Audrius Mineikis (201-77) scored 27 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and forward Karolis Pupinis (200-88) chipped in 18 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) during the contest. The best for the losing side was guard Eivydas Molosciakas (190-93) with 19 points and swingman Marius Kasiulevicius (198-82, college: Trinity Valley JC) scored 14 points and 6 rebounds. Four Silute players scored in double figures. Suduva-Mantinga moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Statyba. Silute lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the sixteenth position with 14 games lost. Suduva-Mantinga will face league's second-placed Olimpas in Plunge in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Silute will play on the road against the league's leader Mazeikiai (#1).

Ezerunas-Karys was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. Forward Vytautas Kruzikas (199-89) scored 18 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and forward Aurimas Urbonas (196-93) chipped in 13 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. Triobet's coach Kestutis Narusevicius used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was forward Eimantas Narusis (201-86) with 15 points and 6 rebounds and swingman Dainius Navickas (195-78) scored 16 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Triobet have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain seventh position with 11-7 record. Not a big story in a game when 18th ranked Gargzdai-Bremena (3-15) was defeated on the road by sixteenth ranked Radviliskis (5-13) 73-68 on Saturday. Gargzdai-Bremena trailed by 11 points at halftime and as many as 12 after three quarters before a 21-14 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 68-73 at the end of the game. Radviliskis made 20-of-23 free shots (87.0 percent) during the game. Forward Antanas Montrimavicius (199-87) had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and forward Vaidas Trepocka (200-80, agency: Court Side) chipped in 20 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Five Radviliskis players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was forward Marius Grigaitis (196-91) with 19 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Dominikas Matutis (180-91) scored 14 points and 6 rebounds. Gargzdai-Bremena's coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Radviliskis moved-up to fifteenth place. Loser Gargzdai-Bremena stay at the bottom position with 15 games lost. Radviliskis will have a break next round. Gargzdai-Bremena will play on the road against Delikatesas (#11) in Joniskis.

Everything went according to plan in Klaipeda where fifth ranked Dzukija (13-5) beat 15th ranked Nafta Universitetas (4-14) 80-68 on Saturday. Forward Povilas Sakinis (199-80) scored 19 points and 5 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Tauras Skripkauskas (196-86, college: Charleston) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Four Dzukija players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was forward Donatas Norkus (196-90) with 20 points and 9 rebounds and point guard Deividas Anuzis (181-92) scored 17 points and 8 rebounds. Dzukija moved-up to second place, which they share with Zanavykas and Olimpas. Nafta Universitetas lost sixth consecutive game. They dropped to the sixteenth position with 14 games lost. Dzukija will face S.Marciulionio (#10) in Vilnius in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Nafta Universitetas will play at home against Statyba (#6) in Vilnius.

The most exciting game of round 18 in the NKL took place in Kaunas. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 9th ranked Zalgiris-Sabonio (10-8) to second ranked Zanavykas (13-5) 80-79 on Saturday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Zanavykas had a 15-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Guard Edgaras Stanionis (193-88) scored 25 points and 7 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Arturs Pelss (181-87) chipped in 14 points and 6 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was forward Marius Grigonis (198-94) with 16 points and center Arturas Gudaitis (208-93) scored 13 points and 8 rebounds. Five Zalgiris-Sabonio players scored in double figures. Zanavykas have an impressive six-game winning streak. Newly promoted Zanavykas maintains second position with 13-5 record behind leader Mazeikiai, which they share with Dzukija and Olimpas. Zalgiris-Sabonio lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth place with eight games lost. They share the position with Meresta. Zanavykas is looking forward to face S.Marciulionio (#10) in Vilnius in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Zalgiris-Sabonio's supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Kaunas Birstono.

NKL top team - Mazeikiai (14-4) added another victory to their record on Saturday. This time they beat eighth ranked Meresta (10-8) 76-68. Mazeikiai forced 23 Meresta turnovers. The best player for the winners was Rokas Giedraitis (198-92) who scored 23 points and 8 rebounds. Belarusian center Aleh Kojenets (208-77, college: NC-Wilmington) chipped in 16 points. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Liudas Radavicius (188-88) who recorded 20 points and 4 assists and center Deividas Keburys (202-90) added 13 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Mazeikiai have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 14-4 record. Meresta lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with eight games lost. They share the position with Zalgiris-Sabonio. Mazeikiai will meet at home Silute (#17) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Meresta will play against Ezerunas-Karys (#13) in Moletai and hope to secure a win.

Lithuania U16 celebrate Ryzhenkov Memorial title - 16 hours ago

Lithuania U16 celebrated Ryzhenkov Memorial title in Belarus. The Baltic team overcame Ireland U16 84-38 in the Final game to lift up the trophy. Marek Blazevic was named MVP of the tournament scoring 12 points in the last game. Ernestas Narusevic notched 14 and Lukas Kreismontas added 13. Fajana Fajana ended up with 10 points in the losing effort. Poland U16 finished second, while Belarus on the third place and Ireland on the fourth.   [read more]

Eleventh-ranked Mazeikiai (6-13) made lots of trouble for first ranked Rasai (14-4) on Saturday. The visitors from Raseiniai managed to secure only two-point victory 74-72.
