Here is the weekly review of the top performing Lithuanian players, who play currently abroad.


Jonas Maciulis

   #1. This week's number one is an international swingman Jonas Maciulis (199-85, currently plays in Euroleague), who plays in Greece. He could not help Panathinaikos (6-4) in their last game. Despite Maciulis' very good performance the third-placed Panathinaikos was edged 78-77 on the road by the second-ranked Khimky in the group A of Euroleague. He was the second best scorer with 15 points. Maciulis also added 5 rebounds in 33 minutes on the court. It was Panathinaikos' first loss after four consecutive victories. The Regular Season already ended in the Euroleague. It's Maciulis' first season with the team. This year he averages: 9.7ppg, 4.5rpg, 1.3apg, 2FGP: 57.1%(24-42), 3FGP: 31.6% and FT: 65.0% in the 10 games he played so far. Maciulis is currently a member of the Lithuanian senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international small forward Linas Kleiza (203-85, college: Missouri, currently plays in NBA), who plays in the NBA. He was not able to help the Toronto Raptors (4-19) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Kleiza's very good performance the Toronto Raptors were badly defeated 102-83 in Los Angeles by the Clippers. He was the second best scorer with 17 points. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Kleiza has relatively good stats this year: 7.5ppg, 2.6rpg, 2FGP: 35.0%, 3FGP: 34.3% and FT: 82.6%. He is in the roster of the Lithuanian senior national team.

   #3. The Lithuanian player who performed third best last week abroad was former University international center Michailis Anisimovas (214-84, currently plays in Eurocup). Anisimovas led his Ukrainian team Budivelnyk to a victory over the fourth-ranked Rudupis 84-73 in the Eurocup on Wednesday night. He was MVP of the game. Anisimovas scored 16 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 24 minutes. Budivelnyk Kyivis placed first in group I. Anisimovas is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in Budivelnyk's roster. This season his overall stats are: 8.8ppg, 4.5rpg, 1.2apg, 2FGP: 66.7%(24-36) and FT: 55.6% in the six games. Anisimovas has a dual citizenship: Lithuanian and Ukrainian. Former BC Siauliai starter played for the Lithuanian university national team five years ago.

   #4. Center Jonas Valanciunas (211-92, currently plays in NBA) is a teammate of previously mentioned Linas Kleiza. But that was another game of his team in NBA which we would like to mention. Valanciunas, who plays in the NBA was not able to secure a victory for the Toronto Raptors (4-19) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite his very good performance the Toronto Raptors were defeated 94-88 in Brooklyn by the Nets. Valanciunas was the second best scorer with 15 points. He also added 4 rebounds and 2 blocks. This season Valanciunas has relatively solid stats: 8.5ppg, 5.5rpg, 1.2apg and 1.3bpg. He is also Lithuanian national team player.

   #5. Former U20 international guard Mantas Cesnauskis (191-81, currently plays in Poland) contributed to an easy victory against the league outsider Rosa Radom (3-9) 110-92 in the Polish TBL last Saturday. Cesnauskis scored 16 points and added 3 assists in 22 minutes. Stelmet Zielona Gora (7-4) is placed sixth in the TBL. This year Cesnauskis' total stats are: 6.8ppg, 1.8rpg and 2.0apg in the 11 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Lithuanian and Polish. Cesnauskis used to play for the Lithuanian U20 national team twelve years ago.

Point guard Sarunas Jasikevicius (192-76, college: Maryland, currently plays in Euroleague) contributed to a 1-point Regal FC Barcelona's victory against the fifth-ranked Partizan (2-8) 68-67 in the Euroleague on Thursday night. He scored 7 points. Regal FC Barcelona (9-1) is placed first in group D. It was his team's ninth consecutive victory in a row. The Regular Season already ended in the Euroleague. Jasikevicius has averaged so far 2.7ppg and 1.5apg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Lithuanian National Team roster.

Former U21 international power forward Valdas Dabkus (204-84, currently plays in Poland) contributed to a Energa Czarni's victory against the eighth-ranked Kotwica (3-8) 80-76 in the Polish TBL in Sunday night's game. Dabkus had a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting 11 rebounds in 27 minutes. Energa Czarni Slupsk (8-4) is placed third in the TBL. Dabkus has averaged so far 9.2ppg, 7.1rpg and 1.3spg in the 12 games. He used to play for the Lithuanian U21 national team nine years ago.

Power forward Darius Songaila (204-78, agency: Priority Sports, college: Wake Forest, currently plays in Eurocup) helped his Ukrainian team BC Donetsk win their n overtime game against the closely-ranked Galatasaray 88-81 in the Eurocup last Wednesday. Songaila scored 16 points, had 4 rebounds and dished 4 assists. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. BC Donetskis placed third in the Eurocup. Songaila has reliable stats this season: 13.8ppg, 5.3rpg and 2.2apg. He plays currently for the Lithuanian national team.

International small forward Simas Jasaitis (202-82, currently plays in Eurocup) helped his Russian team Lokomotiv win their game against the closely-ranked Trefl Sopot 87-70 in the Eurocup on Wednesday night. Jasaitis scored 9 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 33 minutes. Lokomotiv Kubanis placed third in group K. Jasaitis' stats this year are: 10.5ppg, 4.5rpg and 1.3apg in the six games. He is also in the roster of the Lithuanian national team.

Shooting guard Martynas Pocius (196-86, agency: Interperformances, college: Duke, currently plays in Euroleague) couldn't help Real Madrid (7-3) in their game against Cantu (3-7) in the Euroleague. Pocius scored 5 points. Real Madrid was defeated 76-70 on the opponent's court by the lower-ranked Cantu (#6) in the group A of Euroleague. The Regular Season already ended in the Euroleague. This season Pocius averages only 2.9ppg. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Lithuanian National Team roster.

   #11. Former U20 international point guard Evaldas Zabas (188-88, currently plays in Czech Republic) was the main contributor in a BK Pardubice's victory against the closely-ranked BK Decin 82-75 in the Czech Republic NBL last Saturday. Zabas was the best player in that game. He scored 22 points and added 6 assists in 26 minutes. Zabas is currently second on the league's list of top scorers with 18.5ppg. This year he also averages: 3.6rpg, 3.4apg and 1.5spg in the 13 games. Zabas used to play for the Lithuanian U20 national team four years ago.

   #12. International guard Tomas Delininkaitis (190-82, currently plays in Ukraine) helped Cherkasy edge the closely-ranked Hoverla 81-80 in the Ukrainian Superleague on Sunday night. He was the top player that evening. Delininkaitis scored 20 points and added 4 assists (went 5 for 5 at the free throw line). His stats this season are: 14.8ppg, 3.8rpg and 2.6apg. Delininkaitis is also in the roster of the Lithuanian national team.

   #13. International guard Martynas Gecevicius (193-88, currently plays in Greece) managed to help Olympiacos S.F.P. Pireus in a victory against the fifth-ranked AGOR 78-64 in the Greek A1 in Sunday night's game. He scored 5 points in 11 minutes. Gecevicius has averaged so far 8.1ppg, 1.3rpg and 1.3apg in the eight games. He used to play for the Lithuanian national team last year.

   #14. International center Antanas Kavaliauskas (207-84, also represented by Interperformances, college: Texas A&M, currently plays in VTB United League) helped his Latvian team VEF Riga win their game against the seventh-ranked BC Nizhny Novgorod 86-82 in the VTB United League in Sunday night's game. He scored 9 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Kavaliauskas has averaged so far 10.0ppg, 5.5rpg and 1.3apg. He plays currently for the Lithuanian national team.

   #15. Former University international center Egidijus Dimsa (205-85, currently plays in Estonia) helped TU/Rock win their game against the sixth-ranked Valga crushing them 90-31 in the Estonian KML last Friday. Dimsa scored 8 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in only 14 minutes. Dimsa has averaged so far 7.7ppg and 5.2rpg in the six games. He used to play for the Lithuanian university national team three years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Lithuanian passport but never been selected to any of Lithuanian national teams:

   #1. Arturas Masiulis (210-C-80, currently plays in United Kingdom) led Worcester Wolves to a victory over the closely-ranked Newcastle Eagles (11-2) 88-73 in the British BBL last Saturday. Masiulis was the top player that evening. He recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and getting 13 rebounds. Worcester Wolves (8-7) is placed fifth in the BBL. Masiulis averaged so far 13.1ppg, 7.7rpg and 1.6apg.

   #2. Benas Veikalas (192-G-83, college: Metro St., currently plays in Germany), who plays in the German BBL could not help Telekom Baskets (5-6) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Telekom Baskets lost 91-104 on the road to the higher-ranked (#7) Bayern Muenchen. Veikalas was the second best scorer with 16 points. He also added 3 passes in 32 minutes. But the season just started, so everything may happen. Veikalas has averaged so far 9.6ppg, 2.5rpg and 1.4apg in the 11 games he played so far.

   #3. Mantas Griskenas (200-F-85, college: Wichita St., currently plays in Romania) was the main contributor in a CSU Sibiu's victory against one of league's weakest teams CS Farul Constanca (1-12) crushing them 84-63 in the Romanian Division A in Wednesday night's game. Griskenas was the top player that evening. He recorded 17 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. CSU Atlassib Sibiu (7-6) is placed tenth in the Division A. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Griskenas averaged so far 11.5ppg and 5.5rpg.

   #4. Experienced Christopher Young (206-F/C-79, agency: Court Side, college: Michigan, currently plays in Belgium) was not able to help Okapi Aalstar (6-2) in their game against Spirou Charleroi (5-3) in the Belgian Ethias League. He scored 6 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 26 minutes. The league leader Okapi Aalstar was crushed 102-71 in Charleroi by the lower-ranked (#3) Spirou. It was Okapi Aalstar's first loss after three consecutive victories. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. Young belongs to league's best rebounders (ranked #6) and also on the list of best blockers (fourth place). He has averaged so far 6.4ppg, 6.5rpg and 1.1bpg in the eight games. Young is a naturalized American. Strangely he has never played in Lithuania.

   #5. Nerijus Brasas (200-F-85, currently plays in Denmark) contributed to an easy victory against the league leader Svendborg (14-1) 96-78 in the Danish Ligaen in Thursday night's game. Brasas scored 15 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Team FOG Naestved (9-6) is placed fifth in the Ligaen. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Brasas has averaged so far 8.9ppg and 4.8rpg.

   #6. Gabas Maldunas (203-F-93, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA was not able to secure a victory for the Dartmouth in their last game. Despite his good performance the Dartmouth was edged 52-50 in Burlington, VT by the University of Vermont. Maldunas recorded 14 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks in 33 minutes. Maldunas has averaged so far 8.9ppg and 4.8rpg in the 15 games.

   #7. Nik Stauskas (198-G-93, currently studies in the States) contributed to an easy victory against the Binghamton University crushing them 67-39 in the NCAA last Tuesday. He scored 12 points. Stauskas has averaged so far 8.9ppg and 4.8rpg. He has a dual citizenship: Canadian and Lithuanian. Despite Stauskas' Lithuanian passport, he currently plays for the Canadian U19 national team and is not eligible to play for the Lithuanian team.

   #8. Zygimantas Jonusas (200-F-82, currently plays in Italy) couldn't help Juvecaserta in their game against Enel Brindisi in the Italian SerieA. Jonusas scored 7 points in 15 minutes. His team lost 74-82. Jonusas has averaged so far 8.9ppg, 4.2rpg and 1.2spg in the 10 games.

   #9. Evaldas Juozapaitis (189-G-84, currently plays in Sweden) couldn't help Hoganas in their game against Jarfalla in the Swedish Basketettan (second division), despite his very good performance last Sunday. He was the top scorer with 18 points. Juozapaitis also added 4 rebounds in 27 minutes. But his team lost 80-85. Juozapaitis averaged so far 12.4ppg, 2.9rpg, 3.0apg and 1.7spg in the 12 games.

   #10. Martynas Kuksta (203-C-89, currently plays in Sweden) is a teammate of previously mentioned Evaldas Juozapaitis and both played together in the last Swedish Basketettan game. Kuksta couldn't help Hoganas in their game against Jarfalla. Despite his very good performance on Sunday night He recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting 12 rebounds. Kuksta also added 4 blocks. Kuksta is currently third on the list of best blockers. He has individually a very good season with high stats. Kuksta averages: 15.6ppg, 7.8rpg and 1.6bpg.

Viktoras Chodosovskis (200-F-89) had a great game in the last round for league's second-best Nafta-Uni. and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com NKL Player of the Week award for round 4 (Second Stage). The 27-year old forward had the game-high 29 points adding nine rebounds for Nafta-Uni. in his team's victory, helping them to beat Perlas-MRU (#5, 17-11) 81-72. Seventh-ranked Vytis (14-16) made lots of trouble for first ranked Suduva-Mantinga (24-5) in Marijampole on Saturday. Suduva-Mantinga managed to secure only two-point victory 74-72. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 24-15. But Vytis won third quarter 21-16. Point guard Ignas Razutis (185-PG-87) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Telsiai, receiving a Eurobasket.com NKL Player of the Week award for round 3 (Second Stage). The 29-year old player got a double-double of 13 points and 12 assists, while his team edged out Rasai (#4, 18-11) 85-82. The game was between two of the league's top four teams.
