There were many interesting games last round. The round ended with change at the leadership position, derby games and favorites losing the games.
Round 22 in NKL means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Gargzdai where host Gargzdai-Bremena (4-18) beat league's leader Mazeikiai (17-5) 76-68 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Mazeikiai. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Mazeikiai won third quarter 20-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Mazeikiai 48-31 including 16 on the offensive glass. Forward Laurynas Lucinskas (201-93) fired 20 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Forward Marius Grigaitis (196-91) chipped in 16 points and 9 rebounds. Guard Modestas Sidlauskas (193-85) produced 15 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for lost side. Gargzdai-Bremena maintains eighteenth position with 4-18 record. Mazeikiai at the other side still keeps top place with five games lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Dzukija who have the same record. Mazeikiai will play next round against Zanavykas trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Gargzdai-Bremena will try to continue on its current victory against ninth ranked Meresta in Pakruojis. The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Dzukija as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (Mazeikiai) loss. Dzukija defeated 3rd ranked Suduva-Mantinga in Alytus 84-72. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Suduva-Mantinga. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Bryan Harrison (188-84, college: Georgia Coll., agency: Global Sports Plaza) who helped to win the game recording 27 points and 8 assists. Cezary Trybanski contributed with 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners. Forward Marius Valukonis (198-88) replied with 24 points and 5 rebounds for Suduva-Mantinga. Suduva-Mantinga's coach Gintautas Zibuda rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Dzukija (17-5) have an impressive six-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Mazeikiai. Suduva-Mantinga at the other side keeps the third place with seven games lost. They share the position with Olimpas. Suduva-Mantinga will play next round against Zalgiris-Sabonio trying to get back on the winning streak. Dzukija will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Triobet at Jonava. We should mention about the upset which took place in Kaunas, where higher ranked Meresta (11-11) lost to thirteenth ranked Birstono (9-13) in a road game 71-77 on Saturday. Paulius Kleiza scored 27 points to lead the charge for the winners. At the losing side Tomas Gaidamavicius responded with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. Birstono have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Delikatesas. Loser Meresta dropped to the ninth position with 11 games lost. They share it with S.Marciulionio. Birstono will meet higher ranked S.Marciulionio (#10) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Meresta will play against Gargzdai-Bremena and hope to secure a win. An interesting game took place in Sakiai, where higher ranked Zanavykas (14-8) lost at home to fifteenth ranked Radviliskis (7-14) 77-84. Antanas Montrimavicius notched a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead the effort. Radviliskis maintains fifteenth position with 7-14 record. Newly promoted Zanavykas keeps the fifth place with eight games lost. Radviliskis' next round opponent will be Nafta Universitetas (#17) in Klaipeda. Zanavykas will play on the road against the league's second-placed Mazeikiai (#2) having rather not much hope for a victory. The game with biggest result difference took place in Vilnius. Local Statyba (14-8) outscored 9th ranked S.Marciulionio (11-11) 107-74 on Saturday night. Darius Tarvydas fired 25 points for the winners. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Statyba moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Triobet and Zanavykas. Loser S.Marciulionio keeps the ninth position with 11 games lost. Statyba will face Delikatesas (#13) in Joniskis in the next round and are hoping to win another game. S.Marciulionio will play at home against Birstono (#12) in Kaunas.

Zalgiris-Sabonio's coach Tomas Masiulis used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gediminas Orelikas (200-G/F-90) will continue his career in Lietuvos Rytas. The forward has agreed on terms of two-year contract with the Vilnius powerhouse. Gediminas Orelikas has played for Rudupis Prienai since 2010. Last season the forward led LKL in scoring posting 16.8 points per game. The forward also delivered 11.3 points, 3.3 boards and 2.8 assists per game in EuroCup. Eurobasket.com named Gediminas Orelikas All-Baltic League Player of the Year. He was also trumped All-Lithuanian LKL Player of the Year. The forward was the member of the Lithuanian University National Team in 2011.
