Bottom-ranked Naglis Palangos (0-13) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 87-52 loss to ninth ranked Lietuvos rytas (5-2) in Palanga on Monday evening. The game without a history. Lietuvos rytas led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Naglis Palangos' 34. Lietuvos rytas forced 19 Naglis Palangos turnovers. The best player for the winners was Croatian power forward Tomislav Zubcic (208-90, agency: Beo Basket) who scored 31 points and 9 rebounds. Serbian point guard Nemanja Nedovic (191-91, agency: Beo Basket) chipped in 7 points and 5 assists. Lietuvos rytas' coach Darius Maskoliunas felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was French forward Mari Konate (203-88, college: McNeese St.) who recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. Lietuvos rytas moved-up to eighth place. Naglis Palangos at the other side still closes the standings with 13 games lost. Lietuvos rytas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Naglis Palangos will play at home against Pieno Zvaigzdes (#7) in Pasvalys and hopes to get finally their first victory.
The game in Panevezys supposed to be also worth to mention about. Top-ranked Zalgiris (7-0) played at the court of 8th ranked Lietkabelis (5-8). Zalgiris smashed Lietkabelis 113-61. It was a good game for the former international forward Mindaugas Kuzminskas (205-89) who led his team to a victory with 24 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Darjus Lavrinovic contributed with 18 points (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Center Mindaugas Kupsas (215-91) replied with 10 points and 9 rebounds for Lietkabelis. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Undefeated Zalgiris have an impressive seven-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to third place. Lietkabelis lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth position with eight games lost. Zalgiris will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Lietkabelis will play on the road against LSU-Baltai (#10) in Kaunas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
