LMKL Round 21: Derby game ends with Sirenos' defeat of Aistes-LSU - Feb 16, 2013

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Kaunas: Sirenos (#2) and Aistes-LSU (#5). Sirenos (16-5) won against visiting Aistes-LSU (8-13) 69-62. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Aistes-LSU won third quarter 22-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sirenos forced 19 Aistes-LSU turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a good game for the former international power forward Iveta Salkauske (195-82, college: Illinois, agency: Josep and Nicolas) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds. The former international guard Rasa Zemantauskaite (176-81) contributed with 18 points for the winners. Power forward Laura Svaryte (190-92) answered with 20 points and 9 rebounds for Aistes-LSU. Sirenos have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain second place with 16-5 record having just two points less than leader Kibirkstis-Tiche. Aistes-LSU lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with 13 games lost. They share it with Ruta Siauliai. Sirenos are looking forward to face Suduva (#4) in Marijampole in the next round. Aistes-LSU will play on the road against Ruta Siauliai and it may be a tough game between close rivals. An interesting game for Kibirkstis-Tiche (18-3) which hosted in Vilnius 4th placed Suduva (14-7). First ranked Kibirkstis-Tiche had an easy win 88-66. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Suduva. The former international forward Vita Kuktiene (186-80) stepped up and scored 17 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and Mante Kvederaviciute chipped in 18 points and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was the former international forward Laima Rickeviciute (188-88) with 21 points and 5 rebounds. Suduva's coach Stasys Zaliabarstis gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Kibirkstis-Tiche maintains first place with 18-3 record. Suduva at the other side keeps the fourth position with seven games lost. Kibirkstis-Tiche's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Vilnius to the arena Jaunieji Talentai.
In the last game of round 21 Utena was beaten by Ruta Siauliai on the road 67-57.

Ruta Siauliai led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 17-of-21 charity shots (81.0 percent) during the game. Belarusian center Lidia Panasiuk (187-85) stepped up and scored 23 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and the former international point guard Santa Okockyte (175-92) chipped in 15 points and 7 rebounds. The best for the losing side was point guard Rita Milieskiene (175-78) with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and Serbian center Ana Radovic (190-90, agency: LBM Management) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. Ruta Siauliai moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Aistes-LSU. Utena at the other side keeps the seventh position with 17 games lost. Lithuania pip Ukraine in Niemodlin to clinch the second place at the Zloty Sokol 2013. The Baltic State overcame Ukraine 71:61 for 2-1 record. The only loss the team suffered from Poland that triumphed at the home tournament. Ukraine meanwhile finished third with 1-2 record.

The only loss the team suffered from Poland that triumphed at the home tournament. Ukraine meanwhile finished third with 1-2 record. Lithuania won the first period 25-9 and led 13 points at the halftime. Both teams nailed 22 points each in third period that remained the difference on the board. Ukraine managed to win the last stanza 17-14 and reduced to final 71:61 result. Mante Kvederaviciute (180-G-90) led the way with 14 points and Egle Siksniute (198-F/C-91) nailed 11. Giedre Paugaite (192-C-90) and Inesa Visgaudaite (172-PG-91) added 9 each, whilst Nacickaite and Solopova poured in 8 apiece. Alina Iagupova (186-G/F-92, agency: LBM Management) delivered 19 points for Ukraine and Katerina Dorogobuzova (190-F-90, agency: LBM Management) as well as Ganna Zarytska (182-F-86, agency: Data Plus Group) had 8 each. Poland rout the Baltic State in Niemodlin for 2-0 record at the International home tournament. The Polish side needed a 62:52 and secured the first place after two games. Lithuania dropped at 1-1 and will need the win tomorrow against Ukraine to finish second.
