Kornelija Balciunaite (176-SF-81) had a great game in the last round for H-Sirenos, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 14. The 35-year old player was the main contributor (10 points, eight rebounds and three assists) to her team's victory, helping them to outclass Siauliai-Univ. (#6, 6-9) with 39-point margin 85-46. H-Sirenos maintains the 3rd position in Lithuanian LMKL. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. H-Sirenos will need more victories to improve their 8-6 record. Balciunaite has many years of experience at H-Sirenos, through which she has constantly improved. Kornelija Balciunaite averages this season 6.5ppg and 6.5rpg.
The second best player in last round's games was young Martyna Petrenaite (181-F-98) of Ukmerges. Petrenaite had a very good evening with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Bad luck as Ukmerges lost that game 57-66 to slightly higher-ranked Aistes-LSU (#5, 6-8). Ukmerges are still at the very bottom. 14 lost games are too many comparing to just one victory Ukmerges managed to get this year. Petrenaite is a newcomer at Ukmerges, but is already one of team's top players. She belongs to the best scorers in the league with 17.7ppg (#2). She also registered 7.8 boards per game.
Third on the list of top players last round was former international Laura Svaryte (190-C/F-92) of league's top team Suduva. Svaryte scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Despite Svaryte's great performance Suduva lost 57-61 to #2 ranked Kibirkstis. But her team cannot count on just a single player as she also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. Suduva had another "accident". It may be a crucial game and cause dropping from the group of top ranked teams. The record is still good, but 2nd lost game is hopefully really an accident. Svaryte's teammates are also very good. That's why having such high stats is even more impressive. Svaryte has a great season in Lithuania. After 13 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 15.1ppg (4th best) and rebounds with 10.0rpg (2nd best).
Other top performing players last week: 4. Volha Ziuzkova (172-PG-83) of H-Sirenos - 13 points and 9 assists 5. Jolanta Marmiene (181-F-79) of Ukmerges - 13 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists 6. Agne Ziegyte (175-G-86) of Aistes-LSU - 11 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists 7. Akvile Baronenaite (185-F-93) of H-Sirenos - 10 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists 8. Egle Sniokaite (175-G-88) of Kibirkstis - 11 points and 5 rebounds 9. Monika Petrauskaite (182-PF-92) of Ukmerges - 11 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists 10. Klaudija Serkeviciute (170-SG-99) of Aistes-LSU - 14 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists
The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
