LKL Round 22: No surprise as #1 Rudupis defeat Lietkabelis - Mar 2, 2013

Host teams show no mercy winning all games.

LKL top team - Rudupis (13-2) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed ninth ranked Lietkabelis (5-11) in Prienai 100-77. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 100-77. Rudupis dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Lietkabelis' 38. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Lietkabelis' players. Power forward Arminas Urbutis (205-86, college: Hofstra) scored 19 points and 6 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and forward Arnas Labuckas (203-87) chipped in 17 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side guard Edgaras Ulanovas (197-92) responded with 18 points and 9 rebounds. Rudupis maintains first position with 13-2 record. Lietkabelis lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with 11 games lost. Rudupis are looking forward to face Siauliai (#7) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Lietkabelis will play against Pieno Zvaigzdes in Pasvalys and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
Bottom-ranked Naglis Palangos (0-16) is still winless. This time they lost on the road their 16th consecutive match to sixth ranked Nevezis (8-7) 69-68. American forward Tony Bishop (201-89, college: Texas St., agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) notched 20 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort and Mindaugas Girdziunas supported him with 12 points and 4 assists. Even 8 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists and 7 steals by American guard Parrish Brown (185-84, college: Maryland) did not help to save the game for Naglis Palangos. Nevezis moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Siauliai and Pieno Zvaigzdes. Naglis Palangos at the other side still closes the standings. Nevezis will play against higher ranked Juventus (#3) in Utena in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Naglis Palangos will play at home against LSU-Baltai (#10) in Kaunas and hopes to get finally their first victory.
The game in Utena was also quite interesting. 4th ranked Pieno Zvaigzdes (8-7) played at the court of fifth ranked Juventus (9-7). Juventus managed to secure a 5-point victory 71-66 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Pieno Zvaigzdes. Aidas Viskontas fired 15 points and 5 assists for the winners. TreVon Hughes produced 19 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. Juventus moved-up to third place. Loser Pieno Zvaigzdes dropped to the fifth position with seven games lost. They share it with Siauliai and Nevezis. Juventus will meet at home Nevezis (#5) in the next round. Pieno Zvaigzdes will play against Lietkabelis in Panevezys and hope to secure a win.

In the last game of round 22 Sakalai was destroyed by Siauliai on the opponent's court 89-69.


Juventus - Pieno Zvaigzdes 71-66

The game in Utena was also quite interesting. 4th ranked Pieno Zvaigzdes (8-7) played at the court of fifth ranked Juventus (9-7). Juventus managed to secure a 5-point victory 71-66 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Pieno Zvaigzdes. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Pieno Zvaigzdes won third quarter 16-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Point guard Aidas Viskontas (183-86) fired 15 points and 5 assists for the winners. Center Karolis Petrukonis (212-87, college: Clemson) chipped in 10 points and 9 rebounds. American-Puerto Rican point guard TreVon Hughes (183-87, college: Wisconsin, agency: Edge Sports) produced 19 points and 7 rebounds and the former international point guard Gediminas Maceina (188-84) added 15 points and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Juventus moved-up to third place. Loser Pieno Zvaigzdes dropped to the fifth position with seven games lost. They share it with Siauliai and Nevezis. Siauliai - Sakalai 89-69

Very expected game when 11th ranked Sakalai (4-12) was crushed on the road by seventh ranked Siauliai (8-7) 89-69 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Siauliai. Sakalai managed to win third quarter 24-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Sakalai 42-28 including 31 on the defensive glass. American guard Chase Simon (198-89, college: Detroit Mercy) fired 28 points for the winners. The former international Aurimas Kieza (202-82, college: Hofstra) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points and 16 rebounds. Five Siauliai players scored in double figures. Jokubas Gintvainis (191-94) produced 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and center Rolandas Matulis (199-73) added 13 points respectively for lost side. Siauliai moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Nevezis and Pieno Zvaigzdes. Loser Sakalai keeps the eleventh position with 12 games lost. Siauliai will meet at home league's leader Rudupis in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
