Lithuanian NKL round 9 (Second Stage) best performance: Arnas Berucka - Feb 12, 2017

Arnas
Berucka
Forward Arnas Berucka (195-F-97) had a great game in the last round for Perlas-MRU, receiving a Eurobasket.com NKL Player of the Week award for round 9 (Second Stage).
The 19-year old player was the main contributor (28 points and three assists) to his team's victory, helping them to beat Rasai (#4, 20-14) in overtime 103-96. Perlas-MRU maintains the 5th position in Lithuanian NKL. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier in Second Stage. Perlas-MRU will need more victories to improve their 19-15 record. In the team's last game Berucka had a remarkable five three-pointers out of 10 attempts. It's his second year at Perlas-MRU and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Arnas Berucka averages this season 9.7ppg.

The second best player in last round's games was 25-year old Rytis Biliartas (200-F-91) of Mazeikiai. Biliartas had a very good evening with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Of course he led Mazeikiai to another comfortable win 79-64 over slightly higher-ranked KTU (13-21) being unquestionably team leader. The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. Mazeikiai keeps 12th position. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 13-21 record. Biliartas is a newcomer at Mazeikiai, but is already one of team's top players.

Third on the list of top players last round was forward Raimundas Ambrulaitis (198-F-82) of Ezerunas-Karys (#13). Ambrulaitis scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds. He was a key player of Ezerunas-Karys, leading his team to a 82-65 easy win against the higher-ranked Palanga (#9, 16-19). Ezerunas-Karys can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 10-25 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Ambrulaitis he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Ambrulaitis has individually a great season in Lithuania. After 26 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 7.2rpg (5th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Mantas Kadzevicius (194-G-91) of Delikatesas - 13 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists
5. Karolis Sarukas (198-F-95) of Petrochema - 21 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Dovydas Giedraitis (190-G) of Ezerunas-Karys - 11 points, 4 rebounds and 8 assists
7. Augustinas Jankaitis (205-F-94) of Vytis - 16 points and 9 rebounds
8. Ignas Razutis (185-PG-87) of Telsiai - 15 points, 4 rebounds and 10 assists
9. Giedrius Stankevicius (205-SF-96) of Rasai - 18 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists
10. Laurynas Kaveckis (190-G-90) of Telsiai - 18 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Lietuvos rytas - Lietkabelis 73-81 Lietkabelis upset Lietuvos Rytas to take 2-1 advantage in the series. The guests trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 43-34 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Lietkabelis looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by Lietuvos rytas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for American point guard Lorenzo Williams (190-84, college: Rice) w...   [read more]

LKL Round 2 of Semi-Finals. Lietkabelis and Neptunas celebrate victories - 5 days ago
Lietkabelis - Lietuvos rytas 90-73 Lietkabelis overcame Lietuvos Rytas to even the semifinal series at 1-1. The game was mostly controlled by Lietkabelis. Lietuvos rytas was better in third quarter 17-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Lietkabelis made 21-of-26 charity shots (80.8 percent) during the game. The former international center Darjus Lavrinovic (212-79) scored 20 points and 6 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) to lead the charge...   [read more]
