There was no lack of interesting games this round. The round ended with favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin.

The most shocking disappointment of round 23 in the LKL was a home defeat of 4th placed Neptunas (12-11) to fifth ranked Juventus (13-10) 79-70 in the game for the fourth place. It ended the four-game winning streak of Neptunas. The guests trailed by 2 points after three quarters before their 26-15 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Juventus dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Neptunas' 26. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for power forward Vaidas Cepukaitis (207-89, agency: Interperformances) who led his team to a victory scoring 26 points and 5 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field). Guard Vytautas Sulskis (200-88, college: Youngstown St., agency: Octagon Europe) helped adding 13 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. Guard Martynas Mazeika (192-85, agency: Interperformances) responded with 15 points and 4 assists. Juventus have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place. Neptunas at the other side dropped to the fifth position with 11 games lost. They share it with Vytautas. Juventus are looking forward to face Dzukija (#8) in Alytus in the next round. Neptunas will play at home against P.Zvaigzdes and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a home loss of second ranked Lietkabelis (17-6) against sixth ranked Vytautas (12-11) on Saturday night. Host Lietkabelis was defeated by Vytautas in a tough game in Panevezys 63-69. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Lietkabelis. It was an exceptional evening for forward Vytenis Lipkevicius (196-89) who led the winners and scored 18 points and 4 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Saulius Kulvietis accounted for 20 points and 5 rebounds. Guard Gintaras Leonavicius (194-83, agency: Players Group) came up with 19 points for Lietkabelis in the defeat. Lietkabelis' coach Kazys Maksvytis rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Vytautas moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Neptunas. Lietkabelis at the other side keeps the second position with six games lost. Vytautas will play against Nevezis (#9) in Kedainiai in the next round. Lietkabelis will play at home against Lietuvos rytas (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
LKL top team - Zalgiris (21-2) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they crushed eighth ranked Dzukija (6-17) in Kaunas 96-68. The best player for the winners was Isaiah Hartenstein who scored 8 points and 9 rebounds. Jonathan Hudson produced 11 points for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains first place with 21-2 record. Dzukija lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the eighth position with 17 games lost. Zalgiris will meet at home bottom-ranked Siauliai (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Dzukija will play against Juventus and hope to secure a win.
Tenth-ranked Siauliai (3-20) gave a tough game to third ranked Lietuvos rytas (16-7). The visitors from Vilnius managed to secure only one-point victory 82-81. However their fans expected much easier game. Jimmy Baron saved the victory by scoring 18 points. Lietuvos rytas' coach Rimas Kurtinaitis allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Lietuvos rytas maintains third place with 16-7 record having five points less than leader Zalgiris. Siauliai at the other side stay dead last with 20 lost games. Lietuvos rytas' next round opponent will be league's second-placed Lietkabelis in Panevezys and it will be for sure the game of the week. Siauliai will play on the road against the league's leader Zalgiris (#1) in Kaunas and hope to win that game.
Ninth-ranked Nevezis (5-18) gave a tough game to seventh ranked P.Zvaigzdes (10-13) in Pasvalys on Saturday. P.Zvaigzdes managed to secure only one-point victory 89-88. However their fans expected easier game. It was a great evening for Derrick Low who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 assists. P.Zvaigzdes maintains seventh place with 10-13 record. Nevezis lost their eighth game in a row. They keep the ninth position with 18 games lost. P.Zvaigzdes will face higher ranked Neptunas (#5) in Klaipeda in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Nevezis will play at home against Vytautas (#6) and hope to win that game.

The most impressive stats of the last round was 16 points and 12 rebounds by Martynas Echodas of Siauliai.

Zalgiris - Dzukija 96-68

LKL top team - Zalgiris (21-2) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they crushed eighth ranked Dzukija (6-17) in Kaunas 96-68. The game was mostly controlled by Zalgiris. Dzukija managed to win fourth quarter 21-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Zalgiris shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 60.0 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was German power forward Isaiah Hartenstein (211-98) who scored 8 points and 9 rebounds. Canadian-Slovenian point guard Kevin Pangos (188-93, college: Gonzaga) chipped in 15 points. Four Zalgiris players scored in double figures. American point guard Jonathan Hudson (180-87, college: Texas A&M) produced 11 points and Russian center Anatoly Kashirov (215-87) added 9 points respectively for the guests. Tenth-ranked Siauliai (3-20) gave a tough game to third ranked Lietuvos rytas (16-7). The visitors from Vilnius managed to secure only one-point victory 82-81. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests were already 14 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 26-13 Siauliai's run in the last quarter cut the lead to 82-81 at the end of the game. Lietuvos rytas players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. American guard Jimmy Baron (191-86, college: Rhode Island) saved the victory by scoring 18 points. Forward Laimonas Kisielius (203-85, college: William & Mary) contributed with 16 points for the winners. Very important is a home loss of second ranked Lietkabelis (17-6) against sixth ranked Vytautas (12-11) on Saturday night. Host Lietkabelis was defeated by Vytautas in a tough game in Panevezys 63-69. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Lietkabelis. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Lietkabelis won third quarter 19-10. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Vytautas shot 18 for 24 from the free-throw line, while Lietkabelis only scored two points from the stripe. It was an exceptional evening for forward Vytenis Lipkevicius (196-89) who led the winners and scored 18 points and 4 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line).
