The Second Stage in NKL just ended.

The most important game in the last round took place in Silute between third ranked Rasai (23-15) and seventh ranked Silute (19-19) on Saturday night. Rasai was defeated by Silute on the road 78-96. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Rasai. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 96-78. Silute forced 21 Rasai turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Rasai helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Modestas Zaunieriunas (185-94) orchestrated the victory by scoring 24 points and 6 rebounds. Center Aurelijus Pukelis (205-94) contributed with 20 points and 9 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for the winners. Silute's coach Robertas Kuncaitis used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Darius Gricius (195-86) replied with 20 points and 5 assists for Rasai. Silute maintains seventh position with 19-19 record, which they share with Palanga. Rasai at the other side keeps the third place with 15 games lost. They share the position with Zalgiris II and Telsiai.
An interesting game for Suduva-Mantinga (30-8) which hosted in Marijampole 3rd ranked Telsiai (23-15). First ranked Suduva-Mantinga had an easy win 89-71. American forward Kinu Rochford (195-90, college: Fair Dickinson) had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Evaldas Saulys chipped in 9 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. Suduva-Mantinga's coach Marius Kiltinavicius allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Forward Audrius Maneikis (203-84, college: Motlow St. CC) responded with 15 points and 6 rebounds. Suduva-Mantinga maintains first position with 30-8 record. Telsiai at the other side keeps the third place with 15 games lost. They share the position with Zalgiris II and Rasai.

Palanga managed to escape with a 2-point win 93-91 on Saturday evening. Raijon Kelly notched 22 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort. Even 36 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) by Zilvinas Petraitis did not help to save the game for Delikatesas. Palanga have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Silute. Loser Delikatesas keeps the tenth position with 23 games lost. They share it with Mazeikiai.
The game between eighth ranked Zalgiris II (23-15) and 12th ranked KTU (13-25) in Kaunas ended with biggest points difference. Zalgiris II outscored guests from Kaunas 83-61. The best player for the winners was Gytis Masiulis who scored 14 points and 7 rebounds. KTU's coach Vytautas Pliauga gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Zalgiris II have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Rasai and Telsiai. KTU lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the twelfth position with 25 games lost.

In the last two games of round 14 Ezerunas-Karys was beaten by Mazeikiai on the road 97-88. Perlas-MRU lost to Vytis on its own court 61-75.
The most impressive performance of 14th round was 19 points by Gytis Radzevicius of Vytis.

Suduva-Mantinga - Telsiai 89-71

An interesting game for Suduva-Mantinga (30-8) which hosted in Marijampole 3rd ranked Telsiai (23-15). First ranked Suduva-Mantinga had an easy win 89-71. The game without a history. Suduva-Mantinga led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Suduva-Mantinga outrebounded Telsiai 40-29 including 29 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. American forward Kinu Rochford (195-90, college: Fair Dickinson) had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Evaldas Saulys (190-93) chipped in 9 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. Mazeikiai - Ezerunas-Karys 97-88

No shocking result in a game when eleventh ranked Mazeikiai (15-23) beat at home 13th ranked Ezerunas-Karys (12-26) 97-88. Ezerunas-Karys was ahead by 6 points at the halftime before a 49-34 second half run of Mazeikiai. They shot 61.3 percent from the field. The best player for the winners was swingman Kostas Jonuska (195-92) who scored 22 points and 5 rebounds. Forward Rytis Biliartas (200-91) chipped in 22 points. Forward Raimundas Ambrulaitis (198-82) produced 15 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists and Jonas Zakas (190-97) added 22 points respectively for the guests. Five Mazeikiai and four Ezerunas-Karys players scored in double figures. Mazeikiai moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Delikatesas. Ezerunas-Karys at the other side keeps the thirteenth position with 26 games lost.

A very close game took place in Joniskis between Palanga and Delikatesas. Ninth ranked Palanga (19-19) got a very close victory on the road over 10th ranked Delikatesas (15-23). Palanga managed to escape with a 2-point win 93-91 on Saturday evening. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 29-21. But Delikatesas won second period 22-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Delikatesas 45-25 including a 19-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. American guard Raijon Kelly (190-93, college: Angelo St.) notched 22 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and guard Zygimantas Simonis (192-95) supported him with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Even 36 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) by swingman Zilvinas Petraitis (194-88) did not help to save the game for Delikatesas. We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 5th ranked Perlas-MRU (21-17) lost to sixth ranked Vytis (20-18) in Vilnius 61-75. Perlas-MRU was ahead by 1 point at the halftime before a 41-26 second half run of Vytis. The best player for the winners was Gytis Radzevicius (195-95) who scored 19 points. Guard Paulius Beliavicius (194-88) chipped in 15 points. Forward Deividas Sirvydis (200-0) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds and forward Arnas Berucka (195-97) added 10 points respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Vytis have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain sixth position with 20-18 record. Zalgiris II - KTU 83-61

The game between eighth ranked Zalgiris II (23-15) and 12th ranked KTU (13-25) in Kaunas ended with biggest points difference. Zalgiris II outscored guests from Kaunas 83-61. The game was mostly controlled by Zalgiris II. KTU was better in second period 25-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 18-of-20 charity shots (90.0 percent) during the game. Zalgiris II outrebounded KTU 29-18 including a 20-8 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Zalgiris II especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 57.9 percentage. The best player for the winners was power forward Gytis Masiulis (206-98) who scored 14 points and 7 rebounds. Guard Kristupas Zemaitis (192-96) chipped in 13 points and 7 assists. Taurages are RKL Champions in Lithuania. They won the Final series against Omega 3-2. In the decisive 5th game Taurages posted a 75-55 victory as they exploded with a 31-9 surge in the third period. Tautvydas Zioba (200-PF-92) top-scored for the winners with 17 points and Aivaras Kvedaravicius (185-PG-88) posted 16.
