Here is the weekly review of the top performing Lithuanian players, who play currently abroad.


Gediminas Orelik

   #1. This week's number one is former international swingman Gediminas Orelik (199-90, currently plays in Turkey). He could not help Banvit (17-9) in their last game. Despite Orelik's good performance Banvit was badly defeated 85-69 on the road by the lower-ranked (#5) Besiktas. He was the second best scorer with 13 points. Orelik also added 7 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 31 minutes on the court. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. It's Orelik's first season with the team. He has individually a very good year with high stats. Orelik averages: 15.6ppg, 5.3rpg, 1.5apg, 2FGP: 63.0%(58-92), 3FGP: 43.1% and FT: 80.9% in 26 games he played so far. He played for the Lithuanian senior national team two years ago.

Tauras Jogela

   #2. Second place goes to former U22 international power forward Tauras Jogela (202-93, agency: Players Group, currently plays in Latvia). He was not able to help one of league's weakest teams one of league's weakest teams Barons Riga (16-15) in their last game. Despite Jogela's very good performance Barons Riga lost 84-89 on the opponent's court to the higher-ranked (#3) Jekabpils. He was the second best scorer with 20 points. Jogela also added 9 rebounds and 3 assists in 30 minutes. They ended the series of three consecutive victories. Jogela has relatively good stats this year: 13.6ppg, 5.2rpg, 1.8apg, 1.2spg, 2FGP: 52.7%, 3FGP: 28.6% and FT: 74.3% in 29 games. He played for the Lithuanian U22 national team in 2015.

   #3. The Lithuanian player who performed third best last week abroad was an experienced former University international center Michailis Anisimovas (214-84, currently plays in Ukraine). Anisimovas led Budivelnyk to a victory against the closely-ranked Cherkasy (15-12) 90-84 in the Ukrainian Superleague in Tuesday night's game. He scored 14 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Budivelnyk Kyiv (25-2) is placed first in the Superleague. It was his team's 17th consecutive victory in a row. This season Anisimovas has relatively solid stats: 11.3ppg, 5.3rpg, 1.9apg, 2FGP: 60.8%(141-232) and FT: 76.4%. He has a dual citizenship: Lithuanian and Ukrainian. Former BC Siauliai starter played for the Lithuanian university national team ten years ago.

Guard Modestas Kumpys (194-91, also represented by Players Group, currently plays in Latvia) was the major contributor in Jekabpils' victory against the league leader Ventspils (27-5) crushing them 87-66 in the Latvian LBL last Saturday. Kumpys recorded 18 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 26 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. BK Jekabpils (18-14) is placed third in the LBL. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Kumpys has reliable stats this year: 12.3ppg, 5.6rpg and 1.5apg in eight games. He used to play for the Lithuanian U20 national team back in 2011.

Former international swingman Deividas Dulkys (195-88, college: Florida St., currently plays in Spain) led Blusens Monbus to a victory over the ninth-ranked RETAbet BB (12-14) 90-85 in the Spanish Liga Endesa on Monday night. Dulkys was MVP of the game. He scored 20 points and added 3 assists. Rio Natura Monbus Obradoiro CAB (9-17) is placed 13th in the Liga Endesa. Dulkys' stats this season are: 11.0ppg, 2.5rpg and 2.7apg. He used to play for the Lithuanian national team five years ago.

Shooting guard Rimantas Kaukenas (192-77, college: Seton Hall, currently plays in Italy) contributed to a Grissin Bon RE's victory against the tenth-ranked Auxilium TO (12-15) 91-80 in the Italian Serie A in Saturday night's game. Kaukenas scored 11 points and added 4 assists in 25 minutes. Grissin Bon Reggio Emilia (16-11) is placed fifth in the Serie A. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be important. Kaukenas is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in Grissin Bon RE's roster. This season his overall stats are: 7.7ppg, 1.3rpg and 2.1apg in 12 games. Kaukenas is a former international player as he played for the Lithuanian senior team five years ago.

Former international center Tautvydas Lydeka (208-83, currently plays in Italy) helped Banco di Srd win their game against the closely-ranked Betaland Cdo (14-13) 74-64 in the Italian Serie A last Saturday. He scored 7 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Banco di Sardegna Sassari (16-11) is placed fourth in the Serie A. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. Lydeka's total stats this season are: 6.6ppg and 4.8rpg. He used to play for the Lithuanian national team eleven years ago.

Swingman Edvinas Seskus (196-95, another player represented by Players Group, currently plays in Estonia) was the main contributor in Parnu's victory against the fifth-ranked TTU (16-16) 87-78 in the Estonian Alexela KML on Sunday night. Seskus was the best player in that game. He scored 21 points and added 5 passes in 29 minutes. Parnu Sadam (4-0) is placed first in the Alexela KML. So far his team won all four games in the Quarter-Finals. Seskus has very impressive stats this year: 15.5ppg, 5.1rpg, 2.6apg and 1.1spg in 30 games. He used to play for the Lithuanian U20 national team back in 2015.

   #9. International swingman Jonas Maciulis (198-85, currently plays in Spain) managed to help Real Madrid to win against one of league's weakest teams Sevilla (8-19) 87-76 in the Spanish Liga Endesa in Saturday night's game. Maciulis scored only 4 points. Real Madrid (20-7) is placed first in the Liga Endesa. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. Maciulis' total stats this season are: 4.2ppg and 1.9rpg. He is also in the roster of the Lithuanian national team.

   #10. Guard Dovydas Redikas (192-92, currently plays in Greece) helped Arkadikos edge the sixth-ranked Ethnikos (14-13) 89-87 in the Greek A2 (second division) last Wednesday. Redikas was the top player that evening. He scored 25 points and added 5 assists in 33 minutes. SEFA Arkadikos (10-17) is placed 11th in the A2. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. Redikas has very impressive stats this year: 16.6ppg, 4.1rpg, 4.0apg and 1.4spg in 22 games. He is a former U20 international player as five years ago he still played for the Lithuanian national team.

   #11. International center Jonas Valanciunas (213-92, currently plays in NBA) helped Toronto Raptors win their game against the Milwaukee Bucks 106-100 in the NBA on Tuesday night. Valanciunas recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points and getting the same number of rebounds. This season Valanciunas has very high stats. He averages: 11.9ppg and 9.5rpg. Valanciunas plays currently for the Lithuanian national team.

   #12. Former U20 international forward Denis Krestinin (202-94, agency: BeoBasket, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Tauras Jogela. But that was another game of his team in Latvian LBL which we would like to mention. Krestinin was not able to secure a victory for Barons Riga (16-15) in their last game. Despite his good performance Barons Riga was crushed 88-58 at home by the second-ranked Valmiera. Krestinin was the second best scorer with 10 points. He also added 9 rebounds in 19 minutes. This year Krestinin's total stats are: 9.9ppg, 7.9rpg, 1.7apg and 1.5spg in 32 games. He used to play for the Lithuanian U20 national team back in 2014.

   #13. Former U20 international forward Edgaras Zelionis (207-89, currently plays in Latvia) faced previously mentioned Modestas Kumpys in the Latvian LBL last game. Zelionis couldn't help Ventspils in their game against Jekabpils. He recorded 8 points. His team was crushed by 21 points 87-66. Zelionis averaged so far 10.9ppg, 5.1rpg and 1.4apg. He used to play for the Lithuanian U20 national team eight years ago.

   #14. Former U21 international point guard Linas Lekavicius (186-84, college: American, currently plays in Russia) helped Universitet-Yugra win their game against the sixth-ranked Spartak Primorie Vladivostok 83-76 in the Russian Superleague 1 (second division) on Thursday night. Lekavicius was the top player that evening. He scored 21 points and added 8 assists in 34 minutes. Lekavicius' stats this year are: 12.8ppg, 6.4rpg, 3.9apg and 1.6spg in 29 games. He used to play for the Lithuanian U21 national team back in 2003.

   #15. Former U20 international small forward Jokubas Gintvainis (193-94, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Magia Huesca in their game against Burgos in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division), despite his very good performance last Sunday. He was the top scorer with 25 points. Gintvainis also added 3 steals in 27 minutes. But his team lost 78-86. Gintvainis averaged so far 12.9ppg, 2.3rpg, 4.3apg and 1.4spg in 32 games. He used to play for the Lithuanian U20 national team three years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Lithuanian passport but never been selected to any of Lithuanian national teams:

   #1. John Shurna (204-F-90, college: Northwestern, currently plays in Croatia) could not help one of league's weakest teams Cedevita (18-7) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite Shurna's good performance Cedevita was defeated 71-63 on the road by the higher-ranked KK_Zadar (#5). He was the second best scorer with 13 points. Shurna also added 5 rebounds. His team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Shurna's overall stats this season are: 9.4ppg, 3.1rpg, 1.1apg and 1.1spg. He is a naturalized American. Despite Shurna's Lithuanian passport, he previously played for the USA U19 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Lithuanian team. Strangely Shurna has never played in Lithuania.

   #2. Experienced Benas Veikalas (192-G-83, college: Metro St., currently plays in Germany) was the major contributor in a BG Goettingen's victory against the ninth-ranked EnBW Ludwigsburg (15-15) 84-75 in the German BBL in Monday night's game. Veikalas recorded 14 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. BG Goettingen (19-3) is placed first in the BBL. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. Veikalas averaged so far 11.2ppg, 3.2rpg and 2.3apg.

   #3. Marius Runkauskas (189-G-86, agency: Octagon Europe, currently plays in Romania) led Steaua CSM to a victory over the sixth-ranked Pitesti (11-17) 105-90 in the Romanian Liga Nationala in Thursday night's game. Runkauskas was the top player that evening. He scored 27 points (!!!) and added 5 passes in 33 minutes. Steaua CSM EximBank Bucuresti (17-11) is placed third in Places 1-6 group. Runkauskas has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 16.9ppg, 2.3rpg and 3.3apg in 30 games he played so far.

   #4. Raimundas Danys (198-F-85, also represented by Octagon Europe, currently plays in Switzerland) was not able to help Neuchatel in their game against Fribourg (20-4) in the Swiss LNA. Danys recorded 8 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. The fifth-placed Neuchatel (13-11) was defeated 77-65 on the opponent's court by the leading Fribourg in the Places 1-6 group. It was Neuchatel's fourth consecutive loss in a row. His team will play only one more game in the Second Stage. Danys averaged so far 10.2ppg, 4.7rpg and 1.4apg.

   #5. Povilas Gaidys (208-C-91, agency: SPORTlab Agency, college: Southeastern, currently plays in Austria) was not able to secure a victory for one of league's weakest teams Gmunden Swans (20-10) in their game against Redwell Gunners Oberwart (26-4) in the Austrian A Bundesliga. He scored 5 points, had 8 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 27 minutes. Gmunden Swans lost 73-77 in Oberwart to the leading Redwell Gunners. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. Gaidys has averaged so far 7.8ppg, 6.2rpg and 1.2apg in 22 games.

He scored 6 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 16 minutes. Milka averaged so far 12.1ppg, 7.1rpg and 1.3apg in 27 games.

   #8. Mantas Virbalas (202-C/F-88, currently plays in France) is a teammate of previously mentioned Mantas Kazonas and both played together in the last French NM1 game. Virbalas contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked ALS Basket 110-92. He scored 6 points and added 4 assists. Virbalas has averaged so far 8.3ppg, 3.7rpg and 1.3apg.

   #9. Robertas Grabauskas (208-C-90, agency: HMS, college: Northwood, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help Palma in their game against Oviedo CB in the Spanish LEB Gold (second division). He scored 8 points. His team was defeated 83-69. Grabauskas averaged so far 10.2ppg and 3.8rpg.

Etoile du Sahel (Division I) agreed terms with experienced 34-year old Lithuanian ex-international power forward Povilas Cukinas (210-103kg-83). He played last season at Chemidor in Iranian Superleague. In 20 games he had 11.6ppg, 7.3rpg and 1.1apg. Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius (LKL) landed 25-year old Lithuanian international center Egidijus Mockevicius (208-102kg-92, college: Evansville).
