23-year old forward Akilah Bethel (183-F-93) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Musel Pikes and receives a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 8. She had a double-double of 23 points and 13 rebounds, while her team beat Amicale (#1, 6-1) 63-58. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Musel Pikes maintains the 4th position in Luxembourg Total League. They would have been even better if they did not have these two lost games earlier in Regular Season. Musel Pikes will need more victories to improve their 4-2 record. Bethel turned to be Musel Pikes' top player in her first season with the team. Louisiana State University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Bethel is in league's top in points (7th best: 17.0ppg), rebounds (5th best: 9.7rpg), assists (9th best: 2.3apg) and averages solid 2.2spg.
Second best performed player last round was Alexandra Williams (185-F-91) of top-ranked Amicale. She is American forward in her first season at Amicale. In the last game Williams recorded impressive double-double of 23 points and 19 rebounds. Bad luck as Amicale lost that game 58-63 to the lower-ranked Musel Pikes (#4, 4-2). It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. Amicale still maintains its place as the top team in the standings, even despite this loss. It was just her team's 1st loss this season, while they won 6 other games. Williams is a newcomer at Amicale and quickly became one of team's most reliable players. She belongs to the best scorers in the league with 20.0ppg (#5). She also registered 14.9 boards per game.
Third place about best performers goes to another Amicale's star - guard Erica Morrow (172-G-89, agency: LBM Management). Morrow showcased her all-around game by recording 24 points, five rebounds and four assists in the last round. Despite Morrow's great performance Amicale lost 58-63 to #4 ranked Musel Pikes. But her team cannot count on just these two top stars as they also need help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. Amicale had another "accident". It may be a crucial game and cause dropping from the group of top ranked teams. The record is still good, but 1st lost game is hopefully really an accident. Morrow's teammates are also very good. That's why having such high stats is even more impressive. Morrow has a great season in Luxembourg. After only 7 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 23.4ppg (3rd best) and assists with 8.1apg (best passer). She also has 4.0spg, FGP: 52.0% and 3PT: 41.2%.
Other top performing players last week: 4. Cathy Schmit (170-G-90) of Musel Pikes - 15 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists 5. Liz Schmitz (180-F-88) of Amicale - 6 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists 6. Laure Diederich (187-C-87) of Musel Pikes - 5 points and 3 rebounds 7. Brielle Ward (188-F) of Musel Pikes - 2 points and 8 rebounds 8. Florence Welsch (173-F-91) of Amicale - 5 points and 3 rebounds 9. Tina Fehlen (178-F/C-89) of Musel Pikes - 8 points 10. Carole Sitz (174-G-85) of Musel Pikes - 7 points, 2 rebounds and 4 assists
The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
