Undefeated Basket Esch (13-1) recorded its first loss at the home court on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by third ranked Musel Pikes (12-2) 76-68. It ended at the same time the 13-game winning streak of Basket Esch. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The guests trailed by 9 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 8 points. Musel Pikes forced 19 Basket Esch turnovers. The best player for the winners was French Magaly Meynadier (170-SG-91) who scored 22 points and 4 assists. American power forward Christine Fisher (183-83) chipped in 14 points and 11 rebounds. Slovakian swingman Agnesa Szaboova (183-75) produced a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the hosts. Musel Pikes have an impressive six-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with Etzella. Basket Esch at the other side still keeps top position with one game lost. Musel Pikes is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Telstar (#10) in Hesperange in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Basket Esch will play on the road against AB Contern (#6) and is hoping to win this game.
Bottom-ranked Telstar (0-14) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 106-56 loss to third ranked Etzella (12-2) in Hesperange. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. Etzella have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Musel Pikes. Newly promoted Telstar still closes the standings with 14 games lost. Etzella will play against Amicale (#8) in Steinsel in the next round where they are favorite. Telstar will play on the road against Musel Pikes in Stadrbredimus and hopes to get finally their first victory.
The game in Heffingen was also quite interesting. 5th ranked AB Contern (7-7) played at the court of seventh ranked Heffingen (5-9). Heffingen managed to secure a 6-point victory 66-60 on Saturday. AB Contern's coach Rene Keiser rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Heffingen maintains seventh position with 5-9 record. Loser AB Contern keeps the fifth place with seven games lost. They share the position with T71 Dudelange. Heffingen will meet Racing (#9) in the next round. AB Contern will play against the league's leader Basket Esch (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
