The Regular Season in Diekirch League just started.

Etzella - T71 Dudelange 74-61

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of T71 Dudelange (0-1) in Ettelbruck on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by Etzella (1-0) 74-61. The game was mostly controlled by Etzella. T71 Dudelange managed to win fourth quarter 22-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Etzella forced 19 T71 Dudelange turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American forward Jessilyn Conicelli (177-F-89, college: Biola, CA) fired a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Canadian guard Katie Donovan (178-82) chipped in 9 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. International center Michcle Orban (190-86) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds and American forward Lydia Bridenbaugh (178-89, college: W.Virg.Wesl.) added 15 points and 7 rebounds (made all of her seven free throws) respectively for lost side. T71 Dudelange's coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. It was the only win of host team this round and in all other games visitors recorded victories. Etzella will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. T71 Dudelange will play at home against Racing in Luxembourg and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Sparta - Musel Pikes 51-69

Another exciting game was played in Bertrange between Musel Pikes and Sparta where Musel Pikes (1-0) beat Sparta (0-1) on the road with 18-point difference 69-51. The game was mostly controlled by Musel Pikes. Sparta was better in third quarter 16-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Musel Pikes dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Sparta's 32. They outrebounded Sparta 40-27 including 30 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Amanda Stowe (186-79, college: Wisc.-Green Bay) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds. Her fellow American import power forward Christine Fisher (183-83) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. American swingman Robin Murphy (185, college: S.Mississippi) answered with 11 points and 7 rebounds and guard Carole Sitz (174-85, college: Elon) added 13 points in the effort for Sparta. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Musel Pikes will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Sparta will play on the road against AB Contern to get more than just one victory in their record.

Basket Esch - AB Contern 58-74

An interesting game where AB Contern beat host Basket Esch with 16-point difference 74-58 on Saturday evening. AB Contern will meet at home Sparta in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Basket Esch will play against Amicale in Steinsel.

Racing - Amicale 62-97

We should not miss the game where guest Amicale crushed their opponents by 35 points 97-62. The game without a history. Amicale led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 17-of-22 charity shots (77.3 percent) during the game. Amicale forced 27 Racing turnovers. American power forward Meghan Gardler (180-88, college: Connecticut) nailed a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!) and 17 rebounds for the winning side and Czech power forward Petra Manakova (195-82, college: Oakland) accounted for 29 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals. Four Amicale players scored in double figures. Amicale's coach Marc Marchetti felt very confident using entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest.
