There were just three rounds played in Regular Season of Diekirch League and we can clearly see which teams will fight for top positions and which will try to avoid bottom places. The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with change at the leadership position and games ending by tiny margin.

Diekirch League round 3 caused change at the leadership position. First defeat of Amicale (2-1) against leader Sparta (3-0) 84-66 was the most important game of the last round. The game without a history. Sparta led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Sparta outrebounded Amicale 39-28 including 25 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Amicale's players. It was a good game for the former international forward Larrie Smith (198-75, college: Tenn Tech) who led his team to a victory with 30 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. American point guard Kasey Ulin (181-82, college: Dickinson St.) contributed with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists for the winners. American forward Reggie Golson (201-81, college: SE Missouri St., agency: Court Side) answered with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds for Amicale. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Sparta have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Etzella. Amicale at the other side dropped to the third place with one game lost. They share the position with T71 and Contern. They were replaced at the leadership position by Etzella. Amicale will play next round against Residence trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Sparta will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked T71 in Dudelange.
The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Etzella as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (Amicale) loss. Etzella defeated 4th placed Musel Pikes in Ettelbruck 87-79. It was a great evening for American power forward Anthony Simpson (203-87, college: Kent St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Tim Giver helped adding 22 points. Etzella's coach Amadeo Dias used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was American power forward Brandon Gary (202-83, college: Hutchinson CC) with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists. Etzella have a solid series of three victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Sparta. Musel Pikes at the other side dropped to the sixth place with two games lost. They share the position with Residence and Soleuvre. Musel Pikes will play next round against Black Star trying to get back on the winning streak. Etzella will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Contern on the road.
An interesting game was also tough home defeat of 7th ranked Residence in a game in Bereldange versus Contern (#5) 83-75. It was an exceptional evening for Elton Frazier who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 12 rebounds. Darrion Pellum came up with 28 points and 7 rebounds for Residence in the defeat. Contern (2-1) moved-up to third place, which they share with T71 and Amicale. Loser Residence dropped to the sixth position with two games lost. They share it with Musel Pikes and Soleuvre. Contern will meet at home league's leader Etzella in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Residence will play against Amicale (#3) in Steinsel.
The game in Esch was also worth to mention about. Sixth ranked T71 (2-1) played at the court of bottom-ranked Basket Esch (0-3). T71 defeated Basket Esch 79-63. The best player for the winners was Tom Schumacher who scored 33 points (!!!). Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. T71 moved-up to third place, which they share with Contern and Amicale. Basket Esch at the other side still closes the standings with three games lost. T71's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Sparta in Bertrange and it will be for sure the game of the week. Basket Esch will play on the road against Soleuvre (#7) in Belvaux and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Black Star - Soleuvre 74-76

Important game to mention about took place in Mersch. Tenth ranked Soleuvre (1-2) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging bottom-ranked Black Star (0-3) 76-74 on Friday evening. Black Star cut a 15-point halftime deficit to two at the end of the game. It was a good game for American swingman Mychal Green (193-83, college: Ohio) who led his team to a victory with 28 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. point guard Dominique Benseghir (183-85) contributed with 18 points for the winners. Soleuvre's coach James Marsh used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American power forward Billy McDaniel (201-84, college: Ark.-Monticello) answered with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 12 rebounds and the other American import point guard Terry Bryant (185-85, college: SE Louisiana) added 26 points and 4 assists in the effort for Black Star. Soleuvre left bottom position moving up to sixth place, which they share with Residence and Musel Pikes. It was Black Star's third loss in a row. They still closes the standings with three games lost. Soleuvre will face Basket Esch (#9) at home in the next round. Black Star will play against Musel Pikes in Stadrbredimus and looks forward to get finally their first victory.

Residence - Contern 75-83

An interesting game was also tough home defeat of 7th ranked Residence in a game in Bereldange versus Contern (#5) 83-75. Residence was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Elton Frazier (196-88, college: Canisius) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 12 rebounds. His fellow American import forward Leon Powell (200-88, college: SE Missouri St., agency: Strategic Sports) accounted for 26 points and 15 rebounds for the winning side. American guard Darrion Pellum (198-87, college: Hampton) came up with 28 points and 7 rebounds and international point guard Pitt Koster (182-89) added 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for Residence in the defeat. Contern (2-1) moved-up to third place, which they share with T71 and Amicale. Loser Residence dropped to the sixth position with two games lost. They share it with Musel Pikes and Soleuvre. Contern will meet at home league's leader Etzella in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Residence will play against Amicale (#3) in Steinsel.

Basket Esch - T71 63-79

The game in Esch was also worth to mention about. Sixth ranked T71 (2-1) played at the court of bottom-ranked Basket Esch (0-3). T71 defeated Basket Esch 79-63. The game was mostly controlled by T71. Basket Esch was better in third quarter 21-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. T71 dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Basket Esch's 36. The best player for the winners was international point guard Tom Schumacher (190-87, college: Cal.Baptist) who scored 33 points (!!!). American forward Ryan Sharry (203-89, college: Middlebury, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was international Martin Rajniak (204-78, college: CSU Bakersfield) who recorded 18 points and 9 rebounds and Slovakian power forward Stefan Svitek (203-77) added 13 points and 13 rebounds respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. T71 moved-up to third place, which they share with Contern and Amicale. Basket Esch at the other side still closes the standings with three games lost. T71's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Sparta in Bertrange and it will be for sure the game of the week. Etzella - Musel Pikes 87-79

The game had a very big importance for Etzella as it allowed them to take a leadership position after Amicale's loss. Etzella defeated Musel Pikes in Ettelbruck 87-79. It looked good early as Musel Pikes took an 9-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Etzella took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 8 points. They made 18-of-20 charity shots (90.0 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for American power forward Anthony Simpson (203-87, college: Kent St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Guard Tim Giver (183-80) helped adding 22 points. Etzella's coach Amadeo Dias used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest.
