There was no lack of interesting games this round. The round ended with change at the leadership position, favorites losing the games and even winless team recording their first victory.

There was a change at the Diekirch League leadership position after last games. The most important game of round 7 took place in Bertrange between two undefeated teams where Sparta beat Etzella (6-1) 84-68 on Sunday night. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Etzella. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The hosts trailed by 12 points at the halftime before their 55-27 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Sparta dominated on the defensive end, holding Etzella to just 6 points in third quarter. It was a great evening for the former international forward Larrie Smith (198-75, college: Tenn Tech) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Swingman Julien Hublart (192-88) helped adding 25 points and 8 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). At the losing side American power forward Anthony Simpson (203-87, college: Kent St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 17 rebounds. Etzella's coach Amadeo Dias rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Undefeated Sparta (7-0) have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. Defending champion (7-0) keeps a position of league leader. Etzella at the other side dropped to the second place with one game lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Sparta. Etzella will play next round against Residence trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Sparta will try to continue on its current victory against tenth ranked Black Star in Mersch.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Amicale (5-2) against fourth ranked Musel Pikes (4-3) on Saturday night. Host Amicale was defeated by Musel Pikes in Steinsel 76-62. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Amicale. It was an exceptional evening for American power forward Brandon Gary (202-83, college: Hutchinson CC) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds. Laurent Schwartz accounted for 23 points. International Samy Picard (196-88) came up with 16 points and 5 rebounds for Amicale in the defeat. Musel Pikes maintains fourth place with 4-3 record. Amicale at the other side keeps the third position with two games lost. Musel Pikes will play against Basket Esch (#9) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Amicale will play against Soleuvre (#8) in Belvaux and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Black Star has finally registered their first victory this season after six consecutive loses. The win is especially important as they defeated much higher ranked Contern (3-4) 77-69 on Saturday. Billy McDaniel fired a double-double by scoring 30 points and 17 rebounds for the winners. Leon Powell produced a double-double by scoring 20 points and 16 rebounds for lost side. Black Star (1-6) left bottom position moving up to ninth place, which they share with Basket Esch. Newly promoted Contern keeps the fifth position with four games lost. They share it with Residence and T71. Black Star will meet league's leader Sparta in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Basket Esch has finally registered their first victory this season after six consecutive loses. They used home court advantage to defeat Residence (3-4) 93-79. Worth to mention a great performance of Lawrence Wright who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds. Basket Esch's next round opponent will be higher ranked Musel Pikes (#4) in Stadrbredimus and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Residence will play at home against the league's second-placed Etzella having rather not much hope for a victory.
