The most exciting game of round 8 in the Diekirch League took place in Contern. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 7th ranked T71 (3-5) to fifth ranked Contern (4-4) 71-68 on Saturday evening. The hosts trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 24-17 charge, which allowed them to win the game. The best player for the winners was American forward Elton Frazier (196-F-88, college: Canisius) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 18 rebounds. International guard Christopher Jones (186-90) chipped in 23 points and 10 rebounds. International point guard Tom Schumacher (190-87, college: Cal.Baptist) produced 26 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals for the guests. Contern moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Residence and Musel Pikes. T71 at the other side keeps the seventh position with five games lost. Contern is looking forward to face Soleuvre (#8) in Belvaux in the next round. T71 will play at home against Musel Pikes in Stadrbredimus and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Etzella (6-2) against sixth ranked Residence (4-4) on Saturday night. Visiting Etzella was defeated by Residence in a tough game in Bereldange 79-83. American forward Marcus Kennedy (193-84, college: Montevallo, agency: Interperformances) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 19 rebounds. Pitt Koster contributed with 21 points and 4 assists for the winners. American power forward Anthony Simpson (203-87, college: Kent St.) replied with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 14 rebounds for Etzella. Etzella's coach Amadeo Dias tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Residence moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Contern and Musel Pikes. Etzella at the other side keeps the second position with two games lost. They share it with Amicale. Residence will play against league's leader Sparta in Bertrange in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Etzella will play at home against the league's second-placed Amicale in Steinsel and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Worth to mention a quality performance of Larrie Smith who helped to win the game recording a triple-double by scoring 27 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals. Billy McDaniel responded with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 10 rebounds (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field). Undefeated Sparta (8-0) have an impressive eight-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with a perfect record of 8 victories in a row. Loser Black Star stay at the bottom place with seven games lost. Sparta will meet at home Residence (#6) in the next round where they are favorite. Black Star will play against Basket Esch (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Amicale led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was forward Reggie Golson (201-81, college: SE Missouri St., agency: Court Side) who scored 25 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Forward Lee Fisher (195-89, college: Chicago St.) chipped in a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds. We should mention about the upset which took place in Stadrbredimus, where higher ranked Musel Pikes (4-4) lost at home to ninth ranked Basket Esch (2-6) 69-82. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Musel Pikes. Musel Pikes was ahead by 6 points at the halftime before a 46-27 second half run of Basket Esch. 24 personal fouls committed by Musel Pikes helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The winners were led by American forward Lawrence Wright (194-84, college: Bradley) who scored that evening 30 points and international Martin Rajniak (204-78, college: CSU Bakersfield) supported him with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Undefeated leader Sparta delivered the eighth consecutive victory on Saturday night. This time they crushed 10th ranked Black Star (1-7) 104-84 in Bertrange. The game was mostly controlled by Sparta. Black Star managed to win second period 20-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sparta looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Black Star's players. Worth to mention a quality performance of the former international forward Larrie Smith (198-75, college: Tenn Tech) who helped to win the game recording a triple-double by scoring 27 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals and Dean Gindt (201-91) who added 29 points during the contest. Four Sparta players scored in double figures. Total League is at the halfway of the Regular Season and there are still another 9 rounds left. The game between Top Four teams took place in Luxembourg.
