4th placed Musel Pikes (4-5) fell to seventh ranked T71 (4-5) in overtime by three points 92-95 on Saturday night. It was a good game for Tom Schumacher who led his team to a victory with 29 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. T71 moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Musel Pikes. T71 will face higher ranked Etzella (#3) in Ettelbruck in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Musel Pikes will play at home against the league's leader Sparta in Bertrange.

The most impressive performance of 9th round was 31 points and 15 rebounds by Reggie Golson of Amicale.


Basket Esch - Black Star 99-72

The game between closely ranked teams ended with ninth ranked Basket Esch's (3-6) home victory over bottom-ranked Black Star (1-8) 99-72 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 99-72. Basket Esch shot 64.5 percent from the field. They also forced 19 Black Star turnovers. It was a great shooting night for Basket Esch especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 61.1 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Black Star's players. It was a good game for international Joe Biever (184-90) who led his team to a victory with 21 points and 5 assists. International Martin Rajniak (204-78, college: CSU Bakersfield) contributed with 10 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. Five Basket Esch players scored in double figures. Basket Esch's coach Franck Meriguet felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American power forward Billy McDaniel (201-84, college: Ark.-Monticello) answered with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds and the other American import point guard Terry Bryant (185-85, college: SE Louisiana) added 14 points in the effort for Black Star. Basket Esch have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Soleuvre. Black Star at the other side stay at the bottom position with eight games lost. Basket Esch will face higher ranked Contern (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Black Star will play against the league's second-placed Amicale (#2) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.

There was an upset when 4th placed Contern (4-5) lost to eighth ranked Soleuvre (3-6) in Belvaux 79-91 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 52-36 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Soleuvre dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Contern's 46. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a good game for American forward Torye Pelham (198-87, college: S.Mississippi) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds. point guard Dominique Benseghir (183-85) contributed with 29 points for the winners. American forward Elton Frazier (196-88, college: Canisius) answered with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import forward Leon Powell (200-88, college: SE Missouri St.) added 18 points and 8 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) in the effort for Contern. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Soleuvre maintains eighth place with 3-6 record, which they share with Basket Esch. Newly promoted Contern keeps the fourth position with five games lost. Soleuvre will face higher ranked Residence (#7) in Bereldange in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Contern will play at home against Basket Esch.

Everything could happen in Ettelbruck at the game between two tied teams. Both second ranked Amicale and 3rd placed Etzella had identical 6-2 record. But Etzella was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Steinsel 78-69 on Sunday night. Etzella trailed by 15 points after 3 quarters before a 22-16 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 69-78 at the end of the game. It was a good game for American forward Reggie Golson (201-81, college: SE Missouri St., agency: Court Side) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 15 rebounds. His fellow American import forward Lee Fisher (195-89, college: Chicago St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. Four Amicale players scored in double figures. American power forward Anthony Simpson (203-87, college: Kent St.) answered with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 16 rebounds and the former international swingman Nelson Delgado (188-80) added 19 points and 4 assists in the effort for Etzella. Etzella's coach Amadeo Dias rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Amicale maintains second place with 7-2 record having just two points less than leader Sparta. Etzella lost third consecutive game. They keep the third position with three games lost. But Musel Pikes won third quarter 24-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Musel Pikes used huge pressure winning it 21-17 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 10-13. It was a good game for international point guard Tom Schumacher (190-87, college: Cal.Baptist) who led his team to a victory with 29 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. American forward Ryan Sharry (203-89, college: Middlebury, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) contributed with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) for the winners. Not a big story in a game when 6th ranked Residence (4-5) was edged by leader Sparta (9-0) in Bertrange 79-78 on Saturday. However just one-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Residence trailed by 16 points after 3 quarters before a 23-8 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 78-79 at the end of the game. They outrebounded Residence 48-30 including a 20-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for American point guard Kasey Ulin (181-82, college: Dickinson St.) who saved his team from a defeat with 23 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists. The former international forward Larrie Smith (198-75, college: Tenn Tech) contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. Four Sparta players scored in double figures.
