Diekirch League Round 14: Musel Pikes defeat AB Contern in the closest game of the week - Dec 17, 2012

The most exciting game of round 14 in the Diekirch League took place in Contern. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 3rd ranked AB Contern (8-3) to first ranked Musel Pikes (10-1) 55-52 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of AB Contern. AB Contern trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 15-6 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 52-55 at the end of the game. American power forward Christine Fisher (183-F/C-83) had a double-double by scoring 17 points, 18 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals to lead the charge for the winners and international Magaly Meynadier (17-91) chipped in 13 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. American power forward Bridget Yoerger (180-87, college: S.Dakota, agency: LBM Management) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 17 rebounds and 7 assists. Musel Pikes have an impressive nine-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 10-1 record. AB Contern at the other side keeps the third place with three games lost. Musel Pikes will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. AB Contern will play on the road against Amicale in Steinsel and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Esch was also worth to mention about. Second ranked Etzella (9-2) played at the court of 7th ranked Basket Esch (2-9). Etzella managed to secure a 5-point victory 69-64. Canadian guard Katie Donovan (178-82) notched a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the effort and Jessilyn Conicelli supported her with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Even a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds by American guard Krystal Vaughn (185-86, college: VCU, agency: LBM Management) did not help to save the game for Basket Esch. Etzella maintains second position with 9-2 record behind leader Musel Pikes. Basket Esch lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with nine games lost. Etzella will play against bottom-ranked Racing (#8) in Luxembourg in the next round where they are favorite. Basket Esch will play on the road against Sparta in Bertrange and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last game of round 14 T71 Dudelange won against Amicale on the opponent's court 95-91.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 40 points (!!!), 17 rebounds and 5 assists by Celeste Trahan-Davis of T71 Dudelange.


AB Contern - Musel Pikes 52-55

Amicale - T71 Dudelange 91-95

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Steinsel where one of their biggest challengers Amicale (6-5) was defeated by fifth ranked T71 Dudelange (6-6) 95-91. The guests were ahead by 4 points but lost the second period ending it with a 1-point deficit before their 16-15 run, which allowed them to win the game. Amicale was plagued by 31 personal fouls down the stretch. American center Celeste Trahan-Davis (184-85, college: Elizabeth City, agency: LBM Management) notched a double-double by scoring 40 points (!!!), 17 rebounds and 5 assists (on 16-of-20 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and the other American import forward Lydia Bridenbaugh (178-89, college: W.Virg.Wesl.) supported her with 34 points (!!!). Even a double-double of 29 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals by American power forward Meghan Gardler (180-88, college: Connecticut) did not help to save the game for Amicale. International guard Jill Bausch (170-87) added 17 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the hosts. Four Amicale players scored in double figures. T71 Dudelange have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position with 6-6 record. Amicale at the other side keeps the fourth place with five games lost. T71 Dudelange will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Amicale will play at home against AB Contern (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

AB Contern - Amicale 52-74 Amicale defended their TOTAL League title. They edged AB Contern on the road to sweep the championship series. The game was mostly controlled by Amicale.
