Top ranked Sparta (14-2) recorded its second loss in Ettelbruck on Saturday night. Visitors were edged by second ranked Etzella (12-4) 79-77. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Sparta. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. American power forward Anthony Simpson (203-87, college: Kent St.) fired a double-double by scoring 18 points and 18 rebounds for the winners. The other American import forward William Arre (199-86, college: Lock Haven) chipped in 15 points and 9 rebounds. American point guard Kasey Ulin (181-82, college: Dickinson St.) produced 25 points for lost side. Etzella maintains second position with 12-4 record having just two points less than leader Sparta. Defending champion Sparta still keeps top place with two games lost. Etzella are looking forward to face Residence (#5) in Bereldange in the next round. Sparta will play on the road against Black Star (#10) in Mersch and is hoping to win this game.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Amicale (11-5) against fourth ranked Musel Pikes (9-7) on Saturday night. Visiting Amicale was crushed by Musel Pikes in Stadrbredimus 87-63. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Amicale. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Brandon Gary (202-83, college: Hutchinson CC) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds. Trenton Wurtz contributed with 17 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. Musel Pikes' coach Frank Baum felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Reggie Golson (201-81, college: SE Missouri St., agency: Court Side) replied with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 15 rebounds for Amicale. Musel Pikes have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 9-7 record. Amicale at the other side dropped to the third place with five games lost. Musel Pikes will play against Basket Esch (#9) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Amicale will play against Soleuvre (#8) in Belvaux and hopes to get back on the winning track.
An interesting game was played in Belvaux where host Soleuvre (#8) won against 5th ranked T71 103-91 on Sunday evening. Worth to mention a great performance of Mychal Green who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 30 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. At the losing side Ryan Sharry responded with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 15 rebounds. Soleuvre maintains eighth position with 6-10 record. Loser T71 dropped to the sixth place with nine games lost. They share the position with Contern. Soleuvre will meet at home higher ranked Amicale (#3) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. T71 will play against Contern in Luxembourg and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last two games of round 16 bottom-ranked Black Star was defeated by Contern in Luxembourg 74-69. Residence beat Basket Esch at home 81-68.

Soleuvre - T71 103-91

An interesting game was played in Belvaux where host Soleuvre (#8) won against 5th ranked T71 103-91 on Sunday evening. The game without a history. Soleuvre led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Soleuvre had a 33-20 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American swingman Mychal Green (193-83, college: Ohio) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 30 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import forward Chehales Tapscott (195-90, college: Portland St.) who added 23 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. Four Soleuvre players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Ryan Sharry (203-89, college: Middlebury, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) responded with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 15 rebounds and international point guard Tom Schumacher (190-87, college: Cal.Baptist) scored 33 points (!!!) and 7 assists. Soleuvre maintains eighth position with 6-10 record. Loser T71 dropped to the sixth place with nine games lost. They share the position with Contern. Soleuvre will meet at home higher ranked Amicale (#3) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. T71 will play against Contern in Luxembourg and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There was no surprise in Luxembourg where 10th ranked Black Star (1-15) was defeated by seventh ranked Contern (7-9) 74-69 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 74-69. Contern outrebounded Black Star 52-36 including a 26-12 advantage in offensive rebounds. The game was dominated by American players. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Elton Frazier (196-88, college: Canisius) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 27 points and 24 rebounds and forward Leon Powell (200-88, college: SE Missouri St.) who added 18 points and 17 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side power forward Billy McDaniel (201-84, college: Ark.-Monticello) responded with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 14 rebounds and point guard Terry Bryant (185-85, college: SE Louisiana) scored 19 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Contern moved-up to sixth place, which they share with T71. Black Star lost ninth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 15 games lost. Contern will meet T71 (#7) in the next round. Black Star will play against the league's leader Sparta in Bertrange.

Residence - Basket Esch 81-68

No shocking result in a game in Bereldange where sixth ranked Residence (8-8) defeated 9th ranked Basket Esch (5-11) 81-68 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Residence. Basket Esch managed to win third quarter 22-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Basket Esch 37-26 including 23 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Dustin Scott (203-85, college: Charleston) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 12 points and 15 rebounds and international point guard Pitt Koster (182-89) who added 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. At the losing side American forward Lawrence Wright (194-84, college: Bradley) responded with 11 points and 9 rebounds and Slovakian power forward Stefan Svitek (203-77) scored 12 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Residence moved-up to fifth place. Loser Basket Esch keeps the ninth position with 11 games lost. Residence will meet league's second-placed Etzella in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Basket Esch will play against Musel Pikes (#4) in Stadrbredimus and hope to secure a win.
