Here is the weekly review of the top performing Luxembourg players, who play currently abroad.


Nadia Mossong

   #1. This week's number one is an international forward Nadia Mossong (182-86, college: E.Kentucky, currently plays in Belgium). She managed to help Point Chaud Sprimont in a victory against the closely-ranked Basket Groot (8-6) 83-69 in the Belgian Division I in Sunday night's game. Mossong scored 5 points in 19 minutes on the court. Point Chaud Sprimont (11-5) is placed fifth in the Division I. It was her team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. This year Mossong averages: 5.3ppg, 3.2rpg, 2FGP: 24.3%, 3FGP: 41.9% and FT: 46.7% in the 12 games she played so far. She is currently a member of the Luxembourg senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to former international guard Jana Putz (168-93, currently plays in Germany), who plays in the German 2.Bundesliga (12th division). Putz could not help Baskets Grunberg (8-7) to beat ASC Theresianum Mainz (2-1). She did not impress in that game on Saturday. Putz scored only 2 points. The sixth-placed Baskets Grunberg was edged 56-55 on the road by the higher-ranked ASC Theresianum Mainz (#4) in the North group. Putz's overall stats this season are: 1.8ppg, 2.3rpg, 1.2apg, 2FGP: 33.3%. She played for the Luxembourg national team in 2011.

   #3. The Luxembourg player who performed third best last week abroad was former international forward Michele Weynandt (178-86, college: Miami, OH, currently plays in Germany). Weynandt contributed to a Speyer / Schifferstadt's victory against the sixth-ranked KuSG Leimen 68-64 in the German 2.Bundesliga (12th division) on Saturday night. She scored only 1 points and added 3 assists in 21 minutes. TSV TOWERS Speyer / Schifferstadt (2-1) is placed sixth in South group. It's Weynandt's fourth season with the team. This year Weynandt's overall stats are: 4.5ppg, 2.6rpg, 1.9apg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 35.9%, 3FGP: 27.3% and FT: 63.2% in the 11 games. She played for the Luxembourg national team four years ago.

   #4. Forward Liz Schmitz (180-88, currently plays in Belgium) was not able to help Jeugd Gentson (4-13) in their game against Sint Kateline Waver (11-5) in the Belgian Division I. Schmitz's contribution was not very remarkable in Saturday's game. She scored only 2 points. Jeugd Gentson was badly defeated 76-57 at home by the higher-ranked Sint Kateline Waver (#4). It was Jeugd Gentson's third consecutive loss in a row. Schmitz's total stats this season are: 4.3ppg and 3.1rpg. She is also Luxembourg national team player.

American Guard Tasha Cannon (168-G-88) had a great game in the last round for Telstar, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 9. The 28-year old player had a double-double of 34 points and 15 rebounds, while her team beat Musel Pikes (#4, 4-3) 79-65. Telstar maintains the 8th position in Luxembourg Total League. Total League Round 9: Musel Pikes lose to Telstar in the biggest upset of the week - 1 day ago

Total League is at the halfway of the Regular Season and there are still another 9 rounds left. The most shocking disappointment of round 9 in the Total League was a home defeat of 4th placed Musel Pikes (4-3) to eighth ranked Telstar (1-5) 79-65. It ended the two-game winning streak of Musel Pikes. The game was mostly controlled by Telstar. Musel Pikes managed to win fourth quarter 22-17. We bring you last week's top performances from Luxembourgers who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level. This week's number one is an international shooting guard Magaly Meynadier (170-91). She was the major contributor in a TV Saarlouis Royals' victory against the seventh-ranked ChemCats Chemnitz in the German DBBL in Sunday night's game.    [read more]
