The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Musel Pikes (14-3) in Stadrbredimus on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by Amicale (15-2) 100-93. It ended at the same time the 12-game winning streak of Musel Pikes. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Amicale made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. The former international power forward Billy McDaniel (199-84, college: Ark.-Monticello) stepped up and scored 32 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and international guard Bob Melcher (189-94) chipped in 23 points and 10 assists (was perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line !!!). American power forward Clancy Rugg (203-91, college: Vermont, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) responded with 29 points and 7 rebounds (on 13-of-16 shooting from the field). Amicale have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader. Musel Pikes at the other side dropped to the second place with three games lost. Amicale are looking forward to face Sparta (#6) in Bertrange in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Musel Pikes will play on the road against Bascharage (#10) in Kaerjeng and is hoping to win this game.
Bottom-ranked Bascharage (0-17) is still winless. This time they lost on the road their 17th consecutive match to sixth ranked T71 (10-7) 106-61. The former international guard Christopher Jones (186-90) nailed 26 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 13-for-13 from the free throw line !!!) for the winning side and Cory Johnson accounted for 24 points and 10 rebounds. T71's coach Philip Dejworek felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Dominique Reed (198, college: Mount Olive) came up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds for Bascharage in the defeat. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for T71. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Contern. Bascharage lost their seventeenth game in a row. They still close the standings. T71 will play against Basket Esch (#7) on the road in the next round. Bascharage will play against the league's second-placed Musel Pikes and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Basket Esch will meet at home higher ranked T71 (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Residence will play against Arantia in Larochette and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last two games of round 17 Arantia lost to Contern on the opponent's court 79-90. Etzella managed to outperform Sparta in a home game 100-82.

Residence - Basket Esch 65-82

The game in Bereldange was also quite interesting. Seventh ranked Basket Esch (9-8) played at the court of 8th ranked Residence (5-12). Basket Esch did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 82-65 on Saturday. Basket Esch outrebounded Residence 42-19 including a 31-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Americans were the main players on the court. The best player for the winners was forward Bill Clark (196-88, college: Duquesne) who had a double-double by scoring 24 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists. Swingman Jermont Horton (198-84, college: Rutgers-Newark) chipped in 30 points and 8 rebounds. Guard Everage Richardson (191-85, college: Co.Carolina) produced 22 points and 5 rebounds and guard Jesse Reed (196, college: American) added 22 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Basket Esch moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Sparta. Residence lost their third game in a row. They keep the eighth position with 12 games lost. Basket Esch will meet at home higher ranked T71 (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Very expected game in Luxembourg where 9th ranked Arantia (2-15) was defeated by fourth ranked Contern (10-7) 90-79 on Saturday. Contern forced 20 Arantia turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Americans were the main players on the court also this time. The best player for the winners was guard Jesse Morgan (196-91, college: Temple) who scored 40 points (!!!). Swingman Manny Atkins (198-91, college: Georgia St.) chipped in 19 points and 9 rebounds. Guard Duke Mondy (193-90, college: Oakland) produced 30 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists and swingman Ladarius Tabb (196, college: Alabama A&M) added 28 points and 14 rebounds respectively for the guests. Contern maintains fourth place with 10-7 record, which they share with T71. Loser Arantia keeps the ninth position with 15 games lost. Contern will meet higher ranked Etzella (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Arantia will play against Residence (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Etzella - Sparta 100-82

Rather predictable result in Ettelbruck where third ranked Etzella (11-6) defeated 5th ranked Sparta (9-8) 100-82 on Saturday. Etzella made 22-of-26 free shots (84.6 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Sparta turnovers and outrebounded them 46-30 including 18 on the offensive glass. Etzella looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American power forward Derrick Barden (196-92, college: N.Colorado) who had a double-double by scoring 24 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Canadian power forward Billy McNutt (203-85) chipped in a double-double by scoring 20 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!). Four Etzella players scored in double figures. American forward Brad Reese (200-88, college: Texas Tech) produced 38 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds and the other American import forward Titus Robinson (201-90, college: Buffalo) added 20 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Etzella maintains third place with 11-6 record having four points less than leader Amicale. Loser Sparta dropped to the sixth position with eight games lost. They share it with Basket Esch. Etzella will meet at home Contern (#4) in the next round. Sparta will play against the league's leader Amicale in Steinsel and hope to secure a win.

Defending champion Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders (BBL) tabbed 24-year old American guard Phillip Leonard (188-91kg-93, college: Mercer). He played most recently at Bascharage in Luxembourg Total League. In 17 games he averaged impressive 23.1ppg, 6.8rpg, 3.8apg and 1.1spg last season.
