Maltese U16 National Team failed to wrap up their European Championship in Division C with a win. They were held off by Monaco counterparts in the game for the 5th spot. Monaco got to a quick start of the game as Rosenal scored 4 points and they accumulated a 6:0 lead. Varitto and Mereto soon stretched the margin to 12:1. Finally Gatt dropped a trey and Bugeja capped the first frame with a freebie for 5:16 Monaco advantage. Barte and Souciant nailed 4 points and Monaco led 20:5 early in the second period. Later Rosenal and Barte stretched the margin to 23 points as Monaco controlled the tempo. Malta failed to adjust and trailed by as many as 26 points at the interval. Bugeja took over for Maltese team as he canned 6 points to cut the deficit to 21 points at the beginning of the third period. But Monaco continued to mount the pressure and closed the third stanza up by 27 points. The distance proved unassailable for Malta in the final quarter and Monaco celebrated a cruising victory. Robert Rosenal led the charge with 19 points and 9 boards. Maxime Varitto provided 16 points, 7 boards and 5 assists for the winners. David Bugeja answered with game-high 24 points and 14 boards. Edward Bonello had 8 points and 12 rebounds in a losing effort.

Maltese U16 National Team grabbed a narrow win over San Marino to fight for the 5th spot at the European Championship in Division C. Malta will take on Monaco in tomorrows game. Bugeja started the game confidently as his 6 points put Malta in charge 12:5. Maltese youngsters drove to a 15:9 lead at the first intermission. Bugeja and Cilia teamed up for 8 points early in the second stanza and Malta stretched their lead to 15 points. San Marino relied on a nice shooting from Stefanelli to trail by 11 at the main sides change. The teams traded baskets throughout the third period and Carlini and Moretti capped the frame with 4 points to cut the deficit to 9 points before the fourth quarter. Bugeja and Merlini exchanged the buckets to open the final stanza and then the teams took almost a 5-minute scoring pause. Finally Moretti broke the draught with a layup, while Stefanelli penetrated for two more points as San Marino were down by just 5 points with less than 3 minutes left. But Bugeja scored 5 points in the dying moments bringing Maltese team to the victory. David Bugeja led the action with 19 points, 14 boards and 7 steals. He also committed massive 15 turnovers down the stretch. Mark Cilia knocked down 10 points and collected 11 boards for the winners. Marco Stefanelli answered with 12 points and 7 rebounds for San Marino. San Marino takes on Andorra in the game for the 7th spot tomorrow.

Scottish U16 National Team thrashed Maltese counterparts to claim the top spot in the preliminary Group B of the European championship in Division C. Scotland advanced to the semifinal where they would meet hosting Gibraltar tomorrow. The game against Malta turned into a rather one-sided traffic with Scotland having an overwhelming dominance. Scotland opened the game with a stunning 20:0 run to leave Malta far behind. Gatt nailed a freebie to give Malta their first points with just over 4 minutes remaining in the first period. Scotland enjoyed a 23:5 advantage at the first intermission. Fraser opened the second frame with 8 points in a row to give Scottish side an unassailable lead. They drove to a 52:13 lead at halftime. Fraser added 4 unanswered points to tip off the second half. Scotland went on a 15:2 run and never looked back afterwards. Alasdair Fraser knocked down 20 points to lead Scottish side. Bryan Munnoch had 17 points, while Jonathan Bunyan and Cameron Buchan delivered 15 points apiece for the winners. David Bugeja answered with 9 points for Malta. Maltese team takes on San Marino in the lower playoffs tomorrow.

Maltese U16 National Team remained hopeful about their semifinal ambitions at the European championship in Division C. They managed to rebound after a stunning loss to Wales to put up a do-or-die fight against Monaco. Malta used a trey from Bugeja and a jumper from Cilia to gain a 7:4 lead early in the encounter. But Monaco answered with 8 unanswered points to cap the quarter and enjoyed a 15:11 advantage at the first break. Thirouard scored 4 points in a row and put Monaco ahead 22:15 midway through the second stanza. Ronal capped a low-scoring second frame with a freebie and Monaco led 23:15 at the interval. Thirouard added 4 more points at the start of the third term as Monaco built a comfortable 12-point cushion. However Cilia knocked down a jumper to ignite a 10:2 run from Malta to put the team just 4 points behind Monaco late in the quarter. Borg crowned the third frame with a long bomb and Malta trailed 28:30 heading into the final period. Borg and Bugeja put Malta in charge shortly after the start of the fourth term. The lead changed hands for 4 times before Cilia sank a layup for a 41:40 Maltese lead with just over a minute left in regulation. Ronenal answered with a jump shot to retain the advantage for Monaco. Malta had 42 seconds to pull away with a victory. Bugeja was accurate from the field giving Malta a 43:42 lead with 21 seconds on the clock. Robinaud and Bugeja exchanged turnovers and finally Thirouard committed a travelling and Malta celebrated the initial win at the tournament. David Bugeja was dominant with 15 points, 10 boards and 8 steals. Mark Cilia contributed 10 points and 12 boards for the winners. Jeremy Thirouard chipped in 11 points to pace Monaco. Robert Rosenahl had 10 points and 15 boards in defeat.

Welsh U16 National Team got to a flying start of their European Championship in Division C campaign. They held off Maltese counterparts for the first win at the tournament. The game turned into a one-sided traffic with Welsh thumping their opponents. The teams got to a slow start of the game with Trotman and Hinchliffe giving Wales a 10:3 lead at the end of the starting period. Wales went on a 12:0 run in the second quarter to clear off to a 25:7 mark. Coleman capped the first half with 3 points to give Welsh side a 30:8 lead at the interval. Adams and Owen teamed up for 10 unanswered points late in the third stanza as Wales accumulated a 48:10 advantage. Wales kept on piling point untamed in the final minutes. They breezed to an easy victory at the end toppling the ladder in preliminary Group B. Hinchlife secured 18 points and 15 boards for Wales. Kilmartin added 10 points for the winners. Bugeja led Malta with 7 points in defeat. Wales had an outstanding dominance in all game components. They outrebounded their opponents 64:32 and forced those to unbelievable 52 turnovers. Maltese team also shot only 17% from the field. Wales answered with 38% accuracy from the field. Malta will try to rebound against Monaco today. Wales takes on Scotland today.

Maltese National team did not leave Scotland winless. They registered their first win at the tournament beating Wales today in the clash for the 7th overall spot. The teams entered the contest exchanging the baskets but Maltese team soon surged in front. Steve Schembri (187-F-79) nailed back-to-back trebles and Malta accumulated a 20:12 lead. Ben Potts (194-F-85) cut it back to 3 however Malta had the last laugh in the period as Omar Said (177-G-80) and Christopher Sammut (169-G-85) finalized the outcome at 26:17. Omar Said and Steve Schembri combined for 5 points early in the second period and Malta stretched the margin to as many as 12 points. Anthony Berry (200-C-78) and Pearce managed to cap the firs half with straight jumper and Wales trailed by 6 at the interval. Omar Said opened the second half with two triples to give Malta a safe 12-point buffer. The team maintained the gap and when Omar Said and Steve Schembri notched 5 points in a row at the end of the quarter Malta were up by 15. Pearce, Waite and Anthony Berry revived the hope for Welsh team early in the fourth term clipping the deficit to 9 points. But Omar Said, Christopher Sammut and Steve Schembri reacted with 7 straight points to keep the distance comfortable. Wales failed to recover in the dying stages and suffered a sour loss at the end. Omar Said topscored with 25 points for Malta. Steve Schembri provided 19 points, while Marco Mercieca (184-G-83) added 11 for the winners. Anthony Berry had 22 points and 8 boards for Wales. Ben Potts nailed 15 points in a losing effort. Welsh team outrebounded their opponents 46:38 but shot only 37% from the field and suffered 20 turnovers.

San Marino celebrated their second straight win at the European championship in Division C. Today they exercised Malta to fight for the 5th spot tomorrow. Malta meanwhile suffered their 4th straight loss and would try to clinch the 7th place. The teams traded baskets early on with neither side able to clear off. Maltese team relied mainly on offensive courage from Dirk Schembri (193-F-85). He nailed 6 points and Gauci added a three-pointer for Malta to accumulate an 11:8 early advantage. However Stefano Rossini (184-G-74) capped the first frame with 4 points and San Marino held to a 17:14 lead. San Marino kept Malta at distance throughout the second period and Andrea Raschi (198-G/F-79) finalized a 34:26 lead for San Marino at the interval. Five points in a row from Stefano Rossini gave San Marino a 12-point cushion at the start of the third stanza. Then Andrea Raschi hit five freebies and San Marino stretched the gap to as many as 17 points. They maintained the margin and entered the final period ahead by 19. Stefano Rossini came up with a three-pointer to make it 64:40 for San Marino midway through the final quarter. The game was done and San Marino breezed to an overall win at the end. Andrea Raschi topscored with 23 points and 10 boards for San Marino. Emanuele Crescentini (198-F-83) nailed 20 points, while Stefano Rossini added 18 for the winners. Dirk Schembri and Lawrence Deguara (183-G-70) answered with 12 points apiece for Malta. Gauci secured 7 points in defeat. Malta outrebounded San Marino 40:36 but suffered 22 turnovers.

Welsh National team grabbed the initial victory at their European championship in Division C campaign. They held off Malta to gain the third overall spot in the preliminary Pool B. Wales opened the game confidently as Alan Duppa (201-F/C-80) and Mike Gregory (199-F-80) scored first 4 points. However Omar Said (177-G-80) and Schembri answered with a 5:0 run to put Malta in front. Mike Gregory added 5 more points and Waite capped the first frame with a jumper for a 12:7 Welsh advantage. Lawrence Deguara (183-G-70) reigned the scene early in the second term. His 6 points put Malta in charge 15:14. But a three-pointer from Rhys Williams and a jumper from Berry allowed the Welsh side to keep in front 21:20 at halftime. Malta jumped ahead early in the third stanza and when Baldacchino scored a jump shot Malta were up 28:25. The lead changed hands several times before Mike Gregory nailed two free throws for a 38:38 tie at the end of the third quarter. The teams traded baskets at the start of the fourth term before Alan Duppa and Waite carried Wales up 49:44 midway through the frame. Alan Duppa and Omar Said exchanged trebles and then Schembri cut the deficit to 4 points with a minute remaining. Alan Duppa nailed a jumper just for Schembri to answer with a layup. But Rhys Williams crowned the game with two freebies to seal the winning outcome for Wales. Mike Gregory provided 13 points and 11 boards, while Alan Duppa finished with 13 points and 9 caroms for Wales. Rhys Williams provided 12 points and 7 boards for the winners. Lawrence Deguara produced 13 points and 15 boards to pace Malta. Omar Said had 11 points in the third straight loss for Malta.
