The 2012-2013 season looks to be one that the fans of Malta and Europe will not want to miss. The St James Hospital Preseason Tournament will tip of October 6. 2012 at 0800am. This will give the fans in Malta the first chance to see their clubs new additions as well as give the fans a little insight on what to expect in the upcoming season from their favorite clubs.

Athleta- The 2011-2012 Malta League Champions are the favorites entering the 2012-2013 to win Malta League Championship once again. Atleta have signed the 5'9 22 year old Maltese Shooting Guard Shawn Pace from rival Loyola and also added 21 year oldd Bulgarian Mihail Aleksandrov . Athleta also retained their Star Serbian 6'9" Power Forward/ Center Marko Todorovic whom is one of the biggest forces within the paint in Malta. Athleta has retained some very good talent and added very good talent to make them one of the favorites to report at the champions but rumor has it they have lost Michael Naudi to retirement. Naudi to many has been consider the best Malta Player for the past decade.

Depiro- After a run to the title game last season after getting swept 0-3 by Athleta in the finals Depiro is on a mission in 2012-2013 season. Depiro has retained their core players with the addition of two players. Depiro added Etienne Bezzina 6'9" F/C from the defending champions Athleta to strengthen their inside. Depiro had to replace their import from last season Greg Hamlin whom signed in Israel for the 2012-2013 with the signing of their American Star Guard/Forward 6'6" 220 pound Shawn Morgan (Arkansas State NCAA 1) whom to many may be the difference in Depiro winning the title in 2012-2013 season. Morgan spent 2011 in Uruguay where is was named the MVP avg 21.4ppg 8.3rpg, 4.0apg, 2.3spg,1.0bpg, FGP: 55.7%, FT: 70.3% in 2012 Morgan played in Mexico where he continued to show he is one of the brightest stars out their waiting to be discovered by Europe where he avg 27.4ppg, 10.8rpg, 7.3apg ,2.4spg, .07bpg including a 52 point game. Morgan was named to the following teams in 2011-2012 Salten LIGA MVP-11 , Salten LIGA All-Star Team-11 , LiCoMuBa 1st Team-12, LiCoMuBa Defensive 1st Team-12.

Luxol- has lost the services of a few of the their Maltese players from last season from reports. Luxol is said to have lost Lee Ross (Free Agent at the moment) and Antonine Costa whom moved to play with Qormi in the 2nd Division. Luxol went out an replaced Ron Belin with 6'6" 205 F Stephen Franklin out of University Texas San Antonio (NCAA 1). Franklin is entering his first pro season and is said to be a player that can play in side or out but likes to shot the three ball.

Floriana- has been one of the most active teams within the league this summer, Floriana has made sevearl key signings from their rivals as well as a very nice American Power Forward. Floriana managed to sign Power Forward Dirk Schembri from the defending champions Athleta and Shooting Guard David Camilleri from Loyola. Floriana has also wrnt out and signed Hungarian Forward Gabor Szokreny as well 6'8" 245 pound American Forward Phillip Thomas (Portland St) whom will be entering his first professional season. Thomas finished his college basketball career in 2010-2011 season at Portland State where he avg 9.2ppg, 3.1rpg in 21min per game for the Vikings.

Siggiewi - have added forward lee grech and shooting guard Clayton Agius who have moved from Siggiewi's 2nd division team to their 1st division team.

Loyola - have been weakened with the departures of Shawn Pace and David Camilleri and to date they still haven't registered any new signings. They should be having an American on trial for this tournament
