Shawn Morgan 6'6" F (Arkansas State NCAA 1; Team 31 Sports Management) Depiro has been named Malta Basketball Association You Shop We Ship Player of the month for October. Morgan is a player that can score whenever he wants by many accounts but seems to be a player that takes pride in involving his teammates in the game as much as he does scoring. We are use to seeing players of Morgan's caliber shot the ball 20 or so times a game and avg the number of points he does a game but Morgan has not reached the 20 shots in a game as of yet and is still top of the league in scoring. Before coming to Malta Morgan spent time in Uruguay where he was the MVP of the league as well as time in Mexico. Many people questioned if Morgan could play at any level in Europe but we think he has proven the doubters wrong at least early on. Morgan has shown he is one of the most all around players in Malta but some would like to see him a little more selfish with the ball at times because Depiro will only go as far as Morgan will carry them. Morgan is currently avg 26ppg, 8.8rpg, 4.5apg, 3.0spg and shooting 54% from the floor early on. Congratulations to Shawn Morgan Depiro on being named MBA You Shop We Ship Male Player of the Month for October

Floriana held their nerve to win their first national basketball title after beating defending champions Athleta 74-71 in yesterdays fifth and decisive game. With the final series level at 2-2, Athleta, who had twice recovered from a game down, looked on course to retain the title as they led 36-29 at half-time but an 8-0 run at the start of the third session swayed the balance in Florianas favour. Inspired by Christopher Sammut (169-G-85) and Bevan Scott Camilleri, the Greens went on to build a 13-point advantage in the last session but Athleta refused to give up. They produced a stirring fightback, going on a 14-0 run to move one point ahead but Dirk Schembris late basket proved crucial for Floriana. Sammut hit 20 points for the winners, eight fewer than Athletas Marco Todorovic who was the games top scorer. At the end of the match, Floriana captain Ian Mercieca received the BOV National League trophy from Stefan Buontempo, the Parliamentary Secretary for Sport. Courtesy of: http://www.timesofmalta.com
