Athleta had a strong start in which they scored points after several Hibs turnovers and with Michael Naudi points together with Peter Shoults and American Josiah Whitehead (198-F-86, college: Robert Morris) closed the first period with a 10-0 run to lead 18-4. In the second period Hibs had the first points from Alvaro Lizaur however Athleta replied with a 9-2 run including a Naudi triple. Towards the end of the period, Athleta increased their advantage with two Whitehead treys and another one by Billy Zammit to lead 42-18 at halftime. In the third session the course of the game remained the same with Hibs finding difficulty reaching the basket and had more turnovers. Athleta put made short runs of 8-2 and 7-0 with more points by Naudi together with Roderick Vella and they opened a 31 point lead 63-32. In the last period, Athleta slowed down and Hibs began with three consecutive three pointers, 2 from Luke Farrugia and other one by Lizaur. Athleta points came only from Whitehead but Hibs continued to reduce the gap with another run of 11-2 but were still too far away to worry Athleta as the team of Joe Galea emerged victorious 71-56 .

Depiro took the first lead after David Bugeja (180-SG-92) and Robert Bonnici points went 10-2 in front. Luxol replied with a CJ Cordina triple together with a series of consecutive points from Pierce Crumpstone and managed to take the advantage 12-11. Luxol increased their lead at the start of the second period after a Jean Paul Schembru triple 19-13. Depiro replied with an 8-0 run and by the end the quarter, the two teams continued to reply to each other with a trey on each side and at half time both teams were tied 29-29. After the interval Luxol went ahead once more, but Depiro had a strong run of 15-4 with treys by Andrew Aquilina and Timothy Zammit and to open an advantage of 11 points 50-39. Crumpstone replied once more for Luxol but Depiro ended the period optimally with an 8-2 break with consecutive points by Bugeja to lead 58-43. Luxol didn't give up and had a 15-5 run with a Crumpstone triple and reduced the gap to 9 points 62-71. Depiro replied with a Darryl Schembri hoop buth Luxol reduced further the gap but time was against them and Depiro managed to take victory on a final score of 73-66.

Defending champion Bupa Luxol (Division 1) landed 24-year old American center Kyle Meyer (208-104kg-93, agency: KMG Sports Management). He just graduated from Houston (NCAA). In 32 games he averaged only 2.3ppg and 3.6rpg last season. As mentioned above Meyer is just out of the college and it will be his first season in pro basketball. Telstar Hesperange (N2) inked 23-year old American forward Pierce Cumpstone (203-88kg-94, college: Stonehill). He played most recently at Bupa in Maltese Division 1. He helped them to win the league title (twice). Cumpstone received CoSIDA NCAA Division II Academic All-District 1 1st Team award in 2016 at his college time.
