Eight teams entered 2009/2010 season in Moldova. LEO-team, Soroka, Tiraspol, Dondyushani, Basko, Wilson-Team, UTM and BC Strasheni will struggle for the top position in the country this season. So far after the first games Basko, Soroka and UTM reached two victories. Basko overcame Wilson team 89:61 and beat Strashen 86:64. Soroka defeated Dondyushen 77:65 and LEO-Team 85:49. UTM grabbed the victory over Tiraspol 94:47 and overcame Strashen 77:61.

Andorra U18 - Moldova U18 76:71
Andorran Junior National Team clinched the third spot at the European Championship in Division C held in Malta. They overcame Moldovan counterparts in the consolation final yesterday. A Farfan (181-G-91) scored 18 points, pulled down 8 boards and issued 4 assists to pace Andorra.

Andorra U18 - Moldova U18 76:71 Andorran Junior National Team clinched the third spot at the European Championship in Division C held in Malta. They overcame Moldovan counterparts in the consolation final yesterday. A Farfan (181-G-91) scored 18 points, pulled down 8 boards and issued 4 assists to pace Andorra. Moldova used three-pointers from Melniciuc and Stepan Gordienco (189-F-91) late in the opening frame to ensure a 21:19 lead into the second quarter. But Andorra scored 7 unanswered points midway through the second frame to grab a 30:25 advantage. Dabad capped the half with three points to give Andorra a 38:33 lead. Moldova kept it close throughout the third period but Andre Ribeiro (188-F-91) and Guillem Colom (180-G-91) knocked down 5 points late in the stanza to make it 56:47 for Andorra with ten minutes remaining. Gordinenco nailed 9 straight points for the Moldovan team midway through the final stanza as they cut the distance to only 2 points. Cojuhari soon put Moldova ahead but Andorra survived the threat. They unloaded a 7:0 run to restore a 5-point lead with under 2 minutes remaining. Cabanas notched 3 points in the final thirty seconds to seal the victory for Andorra. Guillem Colom finished with 15 points and 19 rebounds for the winners Andre Ribeiro added 11 points for Andorra. Stepan Gordienco replied with 22 points for Moldova. Sergiu Cusnir (181-G-91) had 11 points and 7 boards in defeat.

Gibraltar U18 will play in the championship game of the European Championship in Division C in Malta. They topped Moldovan counterparts in the second semifinal yesterday. Christopher McCann (188-F-91) and Jamie Sercombe (187-F-92) came up with two free throws in the final minute of the encounter to seal the winning outcome for Gibraltar. Christopher McCann (188-F-91) and Jamie Sercombe (187-F-92) came up with two free throws in the final minute of the encounter to seal the winning outcome for Gibraltar. Moldova looked better in the opening frame as they unleashed an 8:0 run to gain a 17:9 lead. Christopher McCann and Moreno narrowed the deficit at 3 points at the first intermission. Moldova maintained the lead throughout the second quarter and arrived at halftime ahead by 6 points 32:26. Jamie Sercombe and Gracia cut the distance but Moldova did not allow their opponents to step in front. Serghei Mescoi (190-F-92) fired two treys late in the quarter as the Moldovan team led by 5 points at the final break. Constantin Culea (196-F-91) and Gordienco extended the margin at 9 points at the start of the fourth quarter. But Gibraltar refused to surrender. They went on an 11:2 run to take a 57:56 advantage with under 3 minutes to go. Cojuhari drew things level at 57 but Christopher McCann and Jamie Sercombe sealed the deal from the stripe in the dying seconds. Derek Aston-Fox (204-C-92) and Christopher McCann scored 15 points apiece to lead the charge. Jamie Sercombe added 11 points for the winners. Serghei Mescoi responded with 13 points for Moldova. Constantin Culea had 12 points in the losing case.
