Alexander Skutyelnik selected the top Moldovan playing abroad in last week's games - Feb 17, 2017

Here is the weekly review of the top performing Moldovan players, who play currently abroad.


Alexander Skutyelnik

   #1. This week's number one is an experienced former international guard Alexander Skutyelnik (192-77, currently plays in Ukraine). He contributed to Azovmash's victory against the third-ranked Dnipro-2 (10-12) 73-60 in the Ukrainian Higher League (second division) in Saturday night's game. Skutyelnik scored 7 points, had 5 rebounds and dished 4 assists in 28 minutes on the court. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in Group 1. Azovmash Mariupol (14-2) is placed first. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. It's Skutyelnik's 16th season with the team. This year he averages: 5.7ppg, 3.3rpg, 3.5apg, 2FGP: 48.3%, 3FGP: 19.2% and FT: 76.2% in 13 games he played so far. Skutyelnik has a dual citizenship: Moldovan and Ukrainian. He played for the Moldovan senior national team seven years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to former international forward Evgeni Scripcaru (195-83, currently plays in Czech Republic). Scripcaru was the major contributor in a 2-point Olomouc Bbal's victory against the fourth-ranked Novy Jicin (6-12) 71-69 in the Czech Republic 1Liga (second division) last Sunday. He scored 14 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 30 minutes. Basketbal Olomouc (2-2) is placed sixth in Places 7-12 group. Scripcaru has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 15.8ppg, 6.2rpg, 2.3apg, 1.6spg, 2FGP: 53.4%, 3FGP: 35.7% and FT: 70.6% in 13 games. Scripcaru played for the Moldovan national team in 2010.

   #3. The Moldovan player who performed third best last week abroad was former U18 international power forward Vladislav Solopa (202-95, currently plays in Romania). He managed to help SCM CSU Craiova to win against the closely-ranked Targu Mures (9-10) 91-72 in the Romanian Liga Nationala on Saturday night. Solopa scored 5 points and added 3 assists. SCM CSU Craiova (5-14) is placed second from the bottom (#10) in the Liga Nationala. They ended the series of six consecutive loses. His team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial. Solopa's overall stats this season are: 3.1ppg, 2.4rpg, 2FGP: 65.0%(13-20), 3FGP: 33.3% and FT: 62.5%. He is another player who holds two passports: Belarusian and Moldovan. Former BK Auto-Red Ribnita starter played for the Moldovan U18 national team four years ago.

   #4. Swingman Alexei Andrus (195-79, currently plays in Germany) led Zwickau to a victory over the sixth-ranked Oberhaching (9-10) 93-83 in the German Regionalliga (fourth division) in Saturday night's game. Andrus was MVP of the game. He scored 20 points and grabbed 8 rebounds (was perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line) in 29 minutes. GGZ Baskets Zwickau (7-12) is placed 11th in South-East group. Andrus is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in Zwickau's roster. Andrus has relatively good stats this season: 11.7ppg, 4.8rpg and 2.1apg in 19 games. He has both Romanian and Moldovan nationalities. Andrus used to play for the Moldovan national team back in 2012.

Emil Ostafiiciuc

   #5. International center Emil Ostafiiciuc (208-94, currently plays in NCAA2). He could not help the William Jewell College (3-11) to beat the Truman State University. Ostafiiciuc scored 8 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and made 4 blocks. The William Jewell College was defeated 92-86 on the road by the Truman State University. There are only two games left until the end of the NCAA2 Regular Season. So now every game will be important. Ostafiiciuc's overall stats this season are: 9.4ppg, 6.5rpg and 1.1bpg. He plays currently for the Moldovan national team.

   #1. Andrii Kalnichenko (201-SF-86, currently plays in Ukraine) led Cherkasy to a victory against the closely-ranked Zaporizhya (9-13) 80-74 in the Ukrainian Superleague last Sunday. Kalnichenko recorded 12 points. SK Cherkasy Monkeys (11-11) is placed fifth in the Superleague. It's Kalnichenko's first season with the team. He has relatively good stats this year: 11.6ppg, 4.1rpg and 1.7apg. Kalnichenko has a dual citizenship: Moldovan and Ukrainian. Despite his Moldovan passport, Kalnichenko previously played for the Ukrainian university national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Moldovan team.

   #2. Stanislav Zavadsky (213-C-87, currently plays in Ukraine) managed to help Budivelnyk Kyiv in a 2-point victoryagainst the seventh-ranked Zaporizhya (9-13) 77-75 in the Ukrainian Superleague on Friday night. He scored only 4 points in 8 minutes on the court. Budivelnyk Kyiv (21-2) is placed first in the Superleague. It was his team's 13th consecutive victory in a row. This year Zavadsky's overall stats are: 6.8ppg and 4.3rpg in 11 games he played so far. He is another player who holds two passports: Moldovan and Ukrainian.

   #3. Aleksandr Gudumak (203-PF-93, agency: Alti Sport, currently plays in VTB United League). Gudumak could not help BC Nizhny Novgorod (5-11) to beat Unics Kazan (11-5). He scored only 4 points. BC Nizhny Novgorod was defeated 112-98 on the road by the higher-ranked Unics Kazan (#5). It's Gudumak's first season with the team. Gudumak's overall stats this year are: 6.2ppg and 1.2rpg. He has both Moldovan and Russian nationalities.

CS Phoenix Galati (Liga Nationala) signed experienced 38-year old Moldovan international swingman Eugeniu Melnic (196-79). He played last season at Admirals UTM Chisnau in Moldovan Divizia Nationala. He helped them to win the regular season and make it to the final. They also played in the Cup final.
