Akeem Scott
The former point guard of Mornar and fan favorite in Bar, Akeem Scott (186-PG-83, college: High Point) who played last season in Montenegro talks for eurobasket.com about his career and his experience in our country. Read where he is playing now an what he thinks about Montenegro and Bar.

Hello Akeem, you are now playing for Pioneros de Quintana Roo (Mexico). How do you like your new team and the country?

Whats up Darko, I love my new team and Mexico. I play in Cancun ever heard of it hahahaaha, or as we do in Mexico jajajajajajaaja. My teammates are great, Hardworking, fun to be around and overall good people who enjoy going to war. Two nights ago we upset the number 1 team in the league. We won the last 10 out of 12 games.

How competitive is the league if compared to the European leagues where you played? (Finland, Latvia, Montenegro)

Mexico is up there or even better, reason why, talent and there are different styles of play. In some European countries the country has one style and theres nothing wrong with that. In Mexico we got Mexican coaches, American coaches and my coach is from Spain. So just about every game is scouted differently.

Could you tell us a couple of words about your high school and college career? What motivated you to dedicate your life to basketball and become a professional basketball player?

I went to Garfield High School in Virginia great school and I attended High Point University in North Carolina division 1 school in Big South Conference. I had great years there and learned a lot. I was brought up around basketball and American football, if you want to live where im from in NYC there is only a few ways, selling drugs or playing a sport. I choose sports.

You are also a member of Jamaican National Team. It must be a dream come true when you represent the country of your origin?

It is amazing and a blessing from God. A lot people still dont know Jamaica has a basketball team, but we are trying to spread the word. Last summer we made history during our 50th year of independence. We have good talent and a really good coach in Sam Vincent who coach the Bobcats in the NBA and he also played in the NBA.

Fans in Montenegro met you last season while you played for Mornar. How did you get a chance to play in Montenegro?

Coach P, the current coach at Monar Bar, coached me in Finland where we won a championship in 2008. He also is the one to believe I can become a Point Guard, before him every coach used me as a shooting Guard. So I am very thankful that God put me and Coach P on the same path not once, twice but three times. Great experience. Hope he and his family are doing well.

It was your first time in the Balkans. How did you like the country and the people in the small town in the Southern Montenegro- Bar?

Awwww man, I loved it especially when the weather got better. Crowds got bigger and the women are beautiful. Food was really good as well. I plan on taking a trip back there next summer, workout, enjoy the beaches and the peace it brings to me.

Your team, Mornar Bar, started the last season well and you finished the regular season at the first place. What happened later in the play-offs? You seemed to be a different team..

Different...I wouldnt say different, we had a very young team, in the beginning of the season where theres no pressure, everybody wants to do well and we did. There comes a time in the season where adversity hits and you have to take the blow and keep going. Our adversity came late in the season and theres no coming back once you lose in the playoffs. I truly believe that was a great experience for Monar players. I hope they use it to win the Cup and the League this season. They deserve to have success, really hard working kids, good coaching staff and great organization.

Last year you were the official eurobasket.com blogger from Montenegro. How did you like that experience?

Great experience, im happy people got to know me better on and off the court. Thanks for that.

Do you have a message for people in Mornar and what do you miss about Montenegro?

Montenegro havent seen the last of me, I will come back to visit and to get that amazing Palacinke. Continue to be good people and watch my New York Giants become the best team in the NFL again .. Oh yeah Coach P if you reading this The Giants beat Greenbay packers again .. hahahahaaa.

Thank you for this interview Akeem. Eurobasket.com wishes you to win the championship with your new team.

Thanks for the love. God Bless.
