Ana Dabovic's 31 points make her top Montenegrin player abroad of the week - Dec 22, 2012

We bring you last week's top performances from Montenegrins who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is former U18 international swingman Ana Dabovic (183-89, currently plays in Turkey). She led TED Ankara to a victory over the closely-ranked Samsun (2-7) 83-65 in the Turkish TKBL in Saturday night's game. Dabovic was MVP of the game. She scored 31 points (!!!), made 6 passes and 3 steals (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) in 34 minutes on the court. TED Ankara Kolejliler (2-7) is placed 11th in the TKBL. It was her team's first victory after six consecutive loses. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Dabovic is currently fourth on the league's list of top scorers with 18.0ppg. She also averaged so far 3.9rpg, 3.6apg, 2.1spg, 2FGP: 47.3%, 3FGP: 31.3% and FT: 69.0% in the eight games she played so far. Dabovic played for the Montenegrin U18 national team five years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to an international center Jelena Dubljevic (191-87, currently plays in Czech Republic). She was the major contributor in a USK Praha's victory against the ninth-ranked Basket Slovanka MB (5-11) crushing them 82-51 in the Czech Republic ZBL last Saturday. Dubljevic scored 14 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. ZVVZ USK Praha (15-1) is placed first in the ZBL. It was her team's 15th consecutive victory in a row. Dubljevic has relatively good stats this season: 11.1ppg, 6.7rpg, 1.9apg, 1.1spg, 2FGP: 58.4%(59-101), 3FGP: 15.4% and FT: 91.3%(42-46). She is in the roster of the Montenegrin senior national team.

   #3. The Montenegrin player who performed third best last week abroad was an international power forward Iva Perovanovic (188-83, currently plays in Russia), who plays in the Russian PBL. Perovanovic could not help Nadezhda Orenburg (5-3) to beat UMMC Ekaterinburg (8-0). She scored 9 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in 22 minutes. But Nadezhda Orenburg was badly defeated 84-64 on the road by the leading UMMC Ekaterinburg. It's Perovanovic's first season with the team. This year Perovanovic averages: 7.3ppg, 6.0rpg, 2FGP: 48.5% and FT: 79.2% in the seven games. She is also a member of the Montenegrin senior national team.

   #4. An experienced shooting guard Anna De Forge (178-76, agency: Josep and Nicolas, college: Nebraska, currently plays in Czech Republic) is a teammate of previously mentioned Jelena Dubljevic. But that was another game of her team in Czech Republic ZBL which we would like to mention. De Forge was not able to help USK Praha (15-1) in their game against IMOS Brno (14-2). She recorded 9 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. But the league leader USK Praha was badly defeated 79-62 in Brno by the second-ranked IMOS. De Forge's overall stats this season are: 9.3ppg, 3.4rpg, 2.0apg and 1.3spg. She is a naturalized American. De Forge used to play for the Montenegrin national team last year. Strangely she has never played in Montenegro.

   #5. International center Ana Turcinovic (190-93, currently plays in Turkey) contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Edremit (1-8) crushing them 106-61 in the Turkish TKBL last Sunday. Turcinovic had a double-double by scoring 12 points and getting 10 rebounds. She also added 4 assists and 3 steals in 29 minutes. Homend Antakya Belediyesi (4-5) is placed eighth in the TKBL. But the season just started, so everything may happen. This year Turcinovic's overall stats are: 9.0ppg, 6.0rpg, 1.3apg and 2.0spg in the three games. She plays currently for the Montenegrin national team.

   #6. Swingman Eshaya Murphy (182-85, college: USC, currently plays in Russia) contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Spartak Vidnoye (5-3) crushing them 76-55 in the Russian PBL on Sunday night. Murphy scored 7 points. Dynamo Kursk (6-2) is placed second in the PBL. This season Murphy has relatively solid stats: 10.5ppg, 3.3rpg, 2.5apg and 1.7spg. She is an international player who is currently on the senior Montenegrin National Team roster.

   #7. International guard Jelena Skerovic (176-80, also represented by Josep and Nicolas, currently plays in Czech Republic) is a teammate of previously mentioned Jelena Dubljevic and both played together in the last Czech Republic ZBL game. Skerovic contributed to an easy victory against the ninth-ranked Basket Slovanka MB (5-11) crushing them 82-51. She scored 8 points in 15 minutes. Skerovic is currently first on the league's list of best passers with 3.9apg. She also averaged so far 6.3ppg, 3.3rpg and 1.3spg in the 16 games. Skerovic is also Montenegrin national team player.

   #8. Forward Milka Bjelica (193-81, agency: LBM Management, currently plays in Romania) contributed to a CSM Targoviste's victory against the sixth-ranked Alexandria (8-6) 83-70 in the Romanian Division A last Saturday. She scored 9 points, had 6 rebounds and dished 3 assists. CSM Targoviste (13-1) is placed second in the Division A. It was her team's seventh consecutive victory in a row. Bjelica's total stats this season are: 8.7ppg, 6.9rpg, 3.0apg and 1.1spg. She used to play for the Montenegrin national team last year.

   #9. International guard Jasmina Bigovic (174-79, currently plays in Russia) helped Spartak Noginsk win their game against the closely-ranked Dynamo-GUVD (2-6) 59-56 in the Russian PBL on Sunday night. Bigovic had a double-double by scoring 11 points and getting 10 rebounds in 39 minutes. Spartak Noginsk (2-6) is placed seventh in the PBL. They ended the series of four consecutive loses. This year Bigovic's total stats are: 4.1ppg, 4.1rpg and 1.1apg in the eight games. She is also in the roster of the Montenegrin national team.

   #10. Power forward Milica Jovanovic (189-89, currently plays in Turkey), who plays in the Turkish TKBL was not able to secure a victory for Besiktas (6-5) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Jovanovic's very good performance Besiktas was crushed 90-57 in Samsun by the lower-ranked Canik Bld (#7). She was the top scorer with 19 points. Jovanovic also added 8 rebounds. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. Jovanovic has reliable stats this season: 15.0ppg, 4.8rpg, 1.3apg and 1.8spg. She is an international player who is currently on the senior Montenegrin National Team roster.

   #11. International center Natasa Popovic (194-82, currently plays in Russia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Jasmina Bigovic and both played together in the last Russian PBL game. Popovic helped Spartak Noginsk win their game against the closely-ranked Dynamo-GUVD 59-56. She scored 6 points, grabbed 10 boards, handed out 4 passes and blocked 3 shots in 31 minutes. Popovic belongs to league's best blockers and is ranked #2 with 2.0bpg. This year she also averages: 5.1ppg, 6.5rpg, 1.6apg and 1.6spg in the eight games. Popovic plays currently for the Montenegrin national team.

   #12. International power forward Biljana Turcinovic (186-89, currently plays in Bulgaria) helped Haskovo 2012 win their game against one of league's weakest teams Montana 2003 78-75 in the Bulgarian NBL on Tuesday night. She recorded 19 points. Turcinovic averaged so far 15.0ppg, 1.8rpg and 1.3spg. She used to play for the Montenegrin national team last year.

   #13. International forward Milica Milosev (185-93, currently plays in Adriatic League) helped her Serbian team ZKK Vrsac win their game against the sixth-ranked Celik 85-81 in the Adriatic League last Saturday. She recorded 14 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Milosev has averaged so far 7.3ppg, 3.0rpg and 1.8apg. She is also Montenegrin national team player.

   #14. International power forward Sanja Knezevic (188-84, currently plays in Romania) was the main contributor in Sp.Studentesc's victory against the closely-ranked Cluj Napoca 65-54 in the Romanian Division A on Monday night. Knezevic was the best player in that game. She scored 13 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 27 minutes. Knezevic has averaged so far 7.4ppg and 3.2rpg in the 13 games. She plays currently for the Montenegrin national team.

   #15. Former international guard Aleksandra Vujovic (184-80, another player represented by LBM Management, currently plays in Adriatic League) faced previously mentioned Milica Milosev in the Adriatic League last game. Vujovic, who plays in Bosnia couldn't help Celik (6-5) in their last game on Saturday. Despite her very good performance the sixth-placed Celik was defeated 85-81 in Vrsac by the lower-ranked ZKK Vrsac (#10) in the group T of Adriatic League. Vujovic was the second best scorer with 15 points. She also added 3 assists. It was his first game for Celik this season. Vujovic used to play for the Montenegrin national team three years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Montenegrin passport but never been selected to any of Montenegrin national teams:

   #1. Mirjana Beronja (170-PG-86, currently plays in Adriatic League), who plays in Serbia could not help Radivoj Korac (9-3) in their last game. Despite Beronja's good performance the third-placed Radivoj Korac was edged 64-62 on the road by the lower-ranked (#4) Vojvodina in the group T of Adriatic League. She was the top scorer with 14 points. Beronja also added 6 assists and 4 steals in 31 minutes. It was Radivoj Korac's first loss after three consecutive victories. Beronja's stats this year are: 11.0ppg, 1.8rpg, 2.5apg and 2.0spg in the 12 games she played so far.

   #2. Biljana Pavicevic (191-F-80, agency: LBM Management, currently plays in Adriatic League) was not able to help Celik (6-5) in their game against ZKK Vrsac (2-10) in the Adriatic League. She recorded only 4 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. It was his first game for Celik this season. Celik (#6) was defeated 85-81 in Vrsac by the lower-ranked ZKK Vrsac (#10) in the group T of Adriatic League. It was Celik's fourth consecutive loss in a row.

ZKK Partizan 1953 Beograd (1 ZLS) signed 27-year old Montenegrin ex-international guard Jelena Culafic (172-89) from Sumadija Kragujevac. Culafic has played there for the last three years. In 22 1 ZLS games in Serbia she had 10.4ppg, 4.1rpg, 4.3apg and 1.9spg last season. The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others her team made it to the Serbian Cup Final Four in 2015. Culafic was also voted Eurobasket.com All-Serbian League 2nd Team in 2015. ZKK Roling Niksic (1A ZCKL) confirmed in their roster 15-year old point guard Andrea Glomazic (179-1, agency: BeoBasket). She played there last season. Glomazic is a very experienced player. Buducnost Bemax added size to their roster by singning experienced Biljana Stjepanovic(190-C-87, agency: Josep and Nicolas) for the upcoming season. Stjepanovic arrives from Bulgarian side Dunav 8806 Ruse, where she averaged 11.0 points, 5.9 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.7 blocks in 28 Bulgarian NBL League games last season and 9.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists in six EuropCup games.
