Eshaya Murphy selected the top Montenegrin playing abroad in last week's games - Jan 26, 2013

Here is the weekly review of the top performing Montenegrin players, who play currently abroad.


Eshaya Murphy

   #1. This week's number one is an international swingman Eshaya Murphy (182-85, college: USC, currently plays in Eurocup). She led her Russian team Dynamo Kursk to an overtime victory against the leader Kayseri (3-1) 77-64 in the Eurocup in Thursday night's game. Murphy scored 11 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 35 minutes on the court. It was the game of the round between two top 2 ranked teams in group F. Dynamo Kursk (4-0) is placed first. So far her team won all four games in the Quarter-Finals. It's Murphy's first season with the team. She has relatively good stats this year: 12.4ppg, 4.3rpg, 1.9apg, 1.6spg, 2FGP: 44.0%, 3FGP: 31.8% and FT: 88.0% in the seven games she played so far. Murphy has a dual citizenship: Montenegrin and Puerto Rican. She is currently a member of the Montenegrin senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international center Jelena Dubljevic (191-87, currently plays in Czech Republic). Dubljevic led USK Praha to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Kara Trutnov (11-8) crushing them 88-58 in the Czech Republic ZBL last Saturday. She recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting 10 rebounds (made all of her six free throws). It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. ZVVZ USK Praha (18-1) is placed first in the ZBL. It was her team's third consecutive victory in a row. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. This season Dubljevic has relatively solid stats: 10.9ppg, 6.7rpg, 1.7apg, 2FGP: 56.8%(67-118), 3FGP: 12.5% and FT: 91.9%(57-62). She is in the roster of the Montenegrin senior national team.

   #3. The Montenegrin player who performed third best last week abroad was an international power forward Iva Perovanovic (188-83, currently plays in Russia), who plays in the Russian PBL. Perovanovic could not help Nadezhda Orenburg (7-4) to beat Vologda-Chevakata (5-6). She scored 8 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 37 minutes. Nadezhda Orenburg lost 61-73 on the road to the lower-ranked (#6) Vologda-Chevakata. This year Perovanovic averages: 9.0ppg, 6.0rpg, 1.2apg, 2FGP: 53.6% and FT: 78.9% in the 10 games. She is also a member of the Montenegrin senior national team.

   #4. Center Ana Turcinovic (190-93, currently plays in Turkey), who plays in the Turkish TKBL was not able to help Antakya (7-7) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Turcinovic's very good performance Antakya was defeated 70-66 on the opponent's court by the higher-ranked Mersin (#5). She was the second best scorer with 16 points. Turcinovic also added 5 rebounds. Turcinovic has reliable stats this season: 12.9ppg, 6.8rpg, 1.5apg and 1.4spg. She is also Montenegrin national team player.

   #5. Former U18 international swingman Ana Dabovic (183-89, currently plays in Turkey) was the major contributor in a TED Ankara's victory against the closely-ranked Botas (7-7) 68-61 in the Turkish TKBL last Saturday. Dabovic scored 15 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 34 minutes. TED Ankara Kolejliler (5-9) is placed 11th in the TKBL. Dabovic belongs to league's top scorers and is ranked #4 with 17.6ppg. This year she also averages: 4.0rpg, 3.5apg and 2.0spg in the 13 games. Dabovic used to play for the Montenegrin U18 national team six years ago.

   #6. Forward Milka Bjelica (193-81, agency: LBM Management, currently plays in Turkey) led Besiktas to a victory over the closely-ranked Tarsus Bld (9-5) 81-64 in the Turkish TKBL on Sunday night. She was MVP of the game. Bjelica scored 24 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and dished 3 assists. Besiktas CT Istanbul (10-5) is placed sixth in the TKBL. It was her team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. Bjelica has individually a very good season with high stats. She averages: 20.0ppg, 7.0rpg, 2.0apg and 2.5spg. Bjelica is a former international player as she played for the Montenegrin senior team two years ago.

   #7. Former international power forward Biljana Turcinovic (186-89, currently plays in Bulgaria) was the main contributor in a 1-point Haskovo 2012's victory against the closely-ranked Rilski Sportist (9-4) 64-63 in the Bulgarian NBL in Wednesday night's game. She was the best player in that game. Turcinovic had a double-double by scoring 17 points and getting 10 rebounds. She also added and 4 steals in 29 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Haskovo 2012 (7-8) is placed fourth in the NBL. Turcinovic's stats this year are: 14.5ppg, 3.5rpg and 2.3spg in the eight games. She used to play for the Montenegrin national team two years ago.

   #8. An experienced center Hajdana Radunovic (192-78, currently plays in Italy) contributed to Priolo's victory against the closely-ranked Pall.Pozzuoli (3-9) 67-63 in the Italian A1 last Sunday. Radunovic was the top player that evening. She scored 14 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and made 2 blocks. Trogylos Priolo (4-8) is placed seventh in the A1. Radunovic's stats this season are: 11.0ppg and 5.5rpg. She used to play for the Montenegrin national team back in 2010.

   #9. International power forward Milica Jovanovic (189-89, currently plays in Turkey) is a teammate of previously mentioned Milka Bjelica and both played together in the last Turkish TKBL game. Jovanovic contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Tarsus Bld (9-5) 81-64. She scored 16 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 40 minutes. Jovanovic belongs to league's top scorers and is ranked #6 with 16.7ppg. This year her other stats are: 5.7rpg, 1.8apg and 1.8spg in the 13 games. Jovanovic is also in the roster of the Montenegrin national team.

Power forward Sanja Knezevic (188-84, currently plays in Romania) contributed to Sp.Studentesc's victory against the closely-ranked Craiova (7-10) 65-53 in the Romanian Liga Nationala in Wednesday night's game. She scored 9 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. CSM Sportul Studentesc Bucuresti (8-9) is placed eighth in the Liga Nationala. Knezevic's overall stats this season are: 7.6ppg, 4.0rpg and 1.2apg. She is an international player who is currently on the senior Montenegrin National Team roster.

   #11. International guard Snezana Aleksic (173-89, currently plays in Eurocup) managed to help Dynamo Moscow in a 2-point victoryagainst the leader Lattes Montpellier 86-84 in the Eurocup last Thursday. Aleksic scored only 1 points in 8 minutes on the court. This year Aleksic's overall stats are: 3.8ppg, 2.0rpg and 1.3apg in the 10 games. She plays currently for the Montenegrin national team.

   #12. Former international guard Aleksandra Vujovic (184-80, also represented by LBM Management, currently plays in Adriatic League), who plays in Bosnia was not able to secure a victory for Celik (9-6) in their last game on Friday. Despite Vujovic's very good performance the fifth-placed Celik was defeated 81-67 in Novi Sad by the higher-ranked Vojvodina (#4) in the group T of Adriatic League. She was the top scorer with 20 points. This season Vujovic has very high stats. She averages: 16.0ppg, 3.0rpg and 3.3apg. Vujovic used to play for the Montenegrin national team back in 2009.

   #13. Former international power forward Neda Nikolic (181-91, currently plays in Serbia) couldn't help Stara Pazova in their game against Sumadija KG in the Serbian A League. She was the second best scorer with 6 points in 17 minutes. Her team was crushed by 33 points 71-38. This year Nikolic's total stats are: 3.1ppg and 2.4rpg in the 15 games. She used to play for the Montenegrin national team two years ago.

   #14. Former international guard Zivana Jankovic (174-83, currently plays in Adriatic League) is a teammate of previously mentioned Aleksandra Vujovic and both played together in the last Adriatic League game. Jankovic couldn't help Celik in their game against Vojvodina. She scored 6 points, grabbed 5 boards, passed 4 assists and added 3 steals. Her team was defeated 81-67. Jankovic has averaged so far 6.7ppg, 3.7rpg and 2.3apg. She used to play for the Montenegrin national team back in 2010.

   #15. Former international swingman Nikolina Popovic (184-84, another player represented by LBM Management, currently plays in Adriatic League) is a teammate of previously mentioned Aleksandra Vujovic. She played also in the last Adriatic League game facing Zivana Jankovic (above) in the other team. Popovic couldn't help Celik in their game against Vojvodina. She scored 8 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 24 minutes. It was his first game for Celik this season. Her team lost 67-81. Popovic used to play for the Montenegrin national team six years ago.

MRZKL champion Buducnost announced the signing of Bosnian guard Tamara Kapor (184-G-91) for next season. Actually it will be her come back to Podgorica as she played there last season. In two games she had 9.5ppg and 2.0rpg and won the MZRKL title with Buducnost. She started the season in Celik andafter Buducnost Kapor played briefly for Banovici in Bosnian Superleague. Natasa Popovic (ex Celik) signs at Reims - 8 days ago

Reims Basket Feminin (LF2) landed 34-year old Montenegrin ex-international center Natasa Popovic (192-82). She has played for the last two years at Celik in Bosnia and Herzegovina Division II. In 13 MZRKL games she averaged 11.3ppg, 12.5rpg (leader !!!), 2.2apg and 3.1bpg last season. It was a very successful year in her career as she was selected to Eurobasket.com All-MZRKL 1st Team and All-Defensive Team.
