Here is the weekly review of the top performing Montenegrin players, who play currently abroad.


Nikola Pekovic

   #1. This week's number one is an international center Nikola Pekovic (209-86, agency: Beo Basket, currently plays in NBA). He led Minnesota Timberwolves to a victory over the Philadelphia 76ers (22-30) 94-87 in the NBA last Wednesday. Pekovic was MVP of the game. He recorded a double-double by scoring 27 points and getting 18 rebounds. Pekovic also added 2 blocks. The Minnesota Timberwolves have 20-31 record this season. Pekovic has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 16.1ppg, 9.1rpg, 2FGP: 50.7% and FT: 73.2%. Pekovic is currently a member of the Montenegrin senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international center Nikola Vucevic (210-90, college: USC, currently plays in NBA), who plays in the NBA. He could not help the Orlando Magic (15-39) in their last game. Despite Vucevic's very good performance the Orlando Magic lost 92-105 on the road to the Charlotte Bobcats. He had a double-double by scoring 18 points and getting 11 rebounds. Vucevic also added 4 assists in 42 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only his second season in pro basketball. It was Magic's third consecutive loss in a row. Vucevic is currently fourth on the league's list of best rebounders with 11.5rpg. This year his other stats are: 12.5ppg, 1.7apg, 1.1bpg, 2FGP: 52.8% and FT: 67.1% in the 54 games he played so far. Vucevic is in the roster of the Montenegrin senior national team.

   #3. The Montenegrin player who performed third best last week abroad was an international power forward Vladimir Dragicevic (206-86, currently plays in Eurocup), who plays in Russia. He was not able to help Spartak St.Petersburg (3-3) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite Dragicevic's good performance the second-placed Spartak St.Petersburg was edged 68-66 in Sevilla by the lower-ranked Cajasol (#4) in the group K of Eurocup. He was the second best scorer with 14 points. Dragicevic also added 7 rebounds and made 2 blocks. The Top 16 already ended in the Eurocup. Dragicevic has relatively good stats this season: 10.6ppg, 4.6rpg, 2FGP: 71.6%(53-74) and FT: 84.6%. He is also a member of the Montenegrin senior national team.

   #4. Power forward Bojan Dubljevic (205-91, also represented by Beo Basket, currently plays in Spain) contributed to an easy victory against the 13th-ranked CB Canarias (8-13) crushing them 105-85 in the Spanish ACB last Saturday. Dubljevic scored 14 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 20 minutes. Valencia Basket (13-8) is placed third in the ACB. They ended the series of four consecutive loses. This year Dubljevic has relatively solid stats: 12.7ppg and 3.4rpg in the 20 games. He is also Montenegrin national team player.

Former U21 international center Maksim Sturanovic (209-88, another player represented by Beo Basket, currently plays in Serbia) was the main contributor in a Radnicki Basket's victory against the closely-ranked OKK Beograd (10-11) 84-76 in a derby game in the Serbian A League on Saturday night. Sturanovic was the best player in that game. He recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points and getting 11 rebounds. Sturanovic also added 3 blocks. Radnicki Basket Beograd (11-10) is placed seventh in the A League. It's Sturanovic's first season with the team. Sturanovic is currently first on the league's list of best blockers. His overall stats this season are: 8.8ppg, 4.7rpg and 1.5bpg. Sturanovic used to play for the Montenegrin U21 national team six years ago.

   #6. Power forward Nemanja Radovic (206-91, another player represented by Beo Basket, currently plays in Serbia), who plays in the Serbian A League was not able to secure a victory for Vrsac (11-10) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Vrsac lost 93-104 in Kraljevo to the lower-ranked (#12) Sloga. Radovic had a double-double by scoring 18 points and getting 14 rebounds. He also added 3 assists in 30 minutes. It was Vrsac's first loss after three consecutive victories. Radovic is ranked fourth on the list of the top scorers in the league and also on the list of best rebounders (second place). He has very impressive stats this year: 15.7ppg, 8.9rpg and 1.2apg in the 21 games. Radovic is a former U20 international player as he played for the Montenegrin team two years ago.

   #7. International swingman Sead Sehovic (196-89, currently plays in Adriatic League) contributed to an Szolnok's surprising victory against the seventh-ranked Un.Olimpija (11-10) 89-72 in the Adriatic League last Saturday. He was the top player that evening. Sehovic scored 19 points, had 5 rebounds and dished 3 assists. Szolnoki Olajbanyasz (6-15) closes the standings in the Adriatic League. Sehovic has reliable stats this season: 12.4ppg, 4.5rpg and 2.2apg. He is also Montenegrin national team player.

   #8. Center Milovan Savic (205-87, currently plays in Serbia) contributed to Konstantin's victory against the 13th-ranked BKK Radnicki (6-15) 74-66 in the Serbian A League on Wednesday night. Savic was the top player that evening. He scored 21 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 36 minutes. KK Konstantin Nis (12-9) is placed fourth in the A League. Savic's stats this year are: 10.8ppg and 4.8rpg in the 16 games. He used to play for the Montenegrin U21 national team back in 2007.

   #9. International swingman Suad Sehovic (196-87, currently plays in EuroChallenge), who plays in Ukraine couldn't help Khimik (2-3) in their last game. Despite his good performance Khimik (#2) lost 68-76 in Samara to the leading Krasnie Krilya in the group K of EuroChallenge. Sehovic scored 14 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 31 minutes. His team will play only one more game in the EuroChallenge Top 16. And that game will be critical. Sehovic averaged so far 10.5ppg, 6.0rpg and 1.1spg in the 11 games. He is also in the roster of the Montenegrin national team.

Power forward Marko Todorovic (210-92, currently plays in Euroleague) managed to help Regal FC Barcelona in a victory against the seventh-ranked Fenerbahce Ulker (2-6) crushing them 99-60 in the Euroleague in Thursday night's game. Todorovic scored only 4 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 10 minutes. Regal FC Barcelona (7-1) is placed first in group F. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. This year Todorovic's overall stats are: 1.8ppg and 1.7rpg in the 11 games. He is U21 international player who is currently on the Montenegrin National Team roster.

   #11. An experienced former international forward Ivan Ivanovic (205-80, another player represented by Beo Basket, currently plays in Romania) was the major contributor in a Gaz Metan's victory against the 14th-ranked Oradea 71-64 in the Romanian Liga Nationala on Saturday night. He recorded 14 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals in 30 minutes. Ivanovic averaged so far 13.4ppg, 6.1rpg and 2.0apg in the 22 games. He used to play for the Montenegrin national team five years ago.

   #12. International center Blagota Sekulic (209-82, agency: FCM, currently plays in Spain) faced previously mentioned Bojan Dubljevic in the Spanish ACB last game. Sekulic couldn't help CB Canarias in their game against Valencia Basket. Despite his very good performance in Saturday night's game He was the top scorer with 15 points. Sekulic's total stats this season are: 9.1ppg and 5.0rpg. He is also in the roster of the Montenegrin national team.

   #13. International point guard Omar-Sharif Cook (188-82, another player represented by Beo Basket, college: St.John's, currently plays in Euroleague) couldn't help Caja Laboral in their game against Montepaschi Siena in the Euroleague. Cook cannot count Friday's game as one of the best ones. He recorded only 3 points and added 5 assists. His team was defeated 85-74. Cook's total stats this season are: 3.4ppg, 1.3rpg and 3.1apg. He is a naturalized American. Cook is also Montenegrin national team player. Strangely he has never played in Montenegro.

   #14. International power forward Milko Bjelica (205-84, another player represented by Beo Basket, currently plays in Euroleague) is a teammate of previously mentioned Omar-Sharif Cook and both played together in the last Euroleague game. Bjelica couldn't help Caja Laboral in their game against Montepaschi Siena. He recorded only 4 points in 11 minutes. His team lost 74-85. This year Bjelica's total stats are: 5.4ppg and 2.7rpg in the 16 games. He plays currently for the Montenegrin national team.

   #15. Former U20 international forward Halil Kanacevic (203-91, currently plays college basketball in the States) couldn't help the St.Joseph's in their game against the La Salle University in the NCAA. Despite his very good performance in Saturday night's game Kanacevic scored 16 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. He has averaged so far 9.1ppg and 3.4rpg. Kanacevic is a naturalized American. He used to play for the Montenegrin U20 national team two years ago. Apparently Kanacevic has never played in Montenegro.


The list of other players, who all have Montenegrin passport but never been selected to any of Montenegrin national teams:

   #1. Nikola Mirotic (207-F/C-91, currently plays in Spain) led Real Madrid to a victory over one of league's weakest teams Assignia Manresa (4-17) crushing them 104-70 in the Spanish ACB in Sunday night's game. He was MVP of the game. Mirotic scored 23 points, had 9 rebounds and made 3 blocks in 25 minutes. Real Madrid (20-1) is placed first in the ACB. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. Mirotic is currently ninth on the league's list of top scorers with 13.7ppg. He also averaged so far 5.4rpg in the 21 games he played so far. Mirotic has a dual citizenship: Montenegrin and Spanish. Despite his Montenegrin passport, Mirotic previously played for the Spanish U20 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Montenegrin team.

   #2. Bojan Subotic (203-F-90, currently plays in Adriatic League) contributed to Zvezda's victory against the league leader Partizan (19-0) 84-76 in a derby game in the Adriatic League in Sunday night's game. Subotic scored 12 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Crvena Zvezda DIVA Beograd (15-6) is placed second in the Adriatic League. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Subotic's overall stats this season are: 4.7ppg and 2.3rpg.

   #3. Experienced Branko Cuic (197-G-78, currently plays in Romania), who plays in the Romanian Liga Nationala could not help Targu Mures (15-7) in their last game on Sunday. Despite Cuic's very good performance Targu Mures was defeated 88-82 on the road by the lower-ranked Craiova (#10). He was the top scorer with 21 points. Cuic also added 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Cuic is currently fourth on the league's list of best passers. He has very reliable stats this season: 13.4ppg, 6.6rpg and 5.7apg.

   #4. Filip Goranovic (205-C/F-85, currently plays in Bosnia), who plays in the Bosnia and Herzegovina Division I was not able to help KK Radnik Bijeljina (9-8) in their last game on Saturday. Despite Goranovic's very good performance KK Radnik Bijeljina was edged 88-86 in Trebinje by the lower-ranked Leotar (#7). He was the top scorer with 26 points. Goranovic also added 9 rebounds. Goranovic averaged so far 12.7ppg and 6.3rpg.

   #5. Ranko Velimirovic (205-C/F-72, agency: Beo Basket, currently plays in Bosnia), who plays in the Bosnia and Herzegovina Division I was not able to secure a victory for Mladost in their last game. Despite Velimirovic's very good performance his team was edged 76-73 on the opponent's court by the much lower-ranked (#10) Kakanj. He was the top scorer with 20 points. Velimirovic also added 3 assists in 29 minutes. Velimirovic is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in Mladost's roster. He averaged so far 11.5ppg, 3.7rpg and 2.3apg in the 15 games.

   #6. Novak Popovic (207-C-81, currently plays in Bosnia) was the major contributor in a Capljina Lasta's victory against the 11th-ranked Vogosca 94-82 in the Bosnia and Herzegovina Division I last Saturday. Popovic scored 19 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. He is currently second on the list of best blockers. Popovic has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 16.0ppg, 5.1rpg and 1.8apg.

   #7. Radomir Marojevic (207-C-81, currently plays in Serbia) couldn't help Vojvodina in their game against Metalac in the Serbian A League. Marojevic scored 9 points in 28 minutes. His team was edged 70-67. He has averaged so far 9.1ppg and 3.4rpg in the 20 games.

   #8. Balsa Radunovic (207-F/C-80, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in FYR Macedonia) contributed to Lirija's victory against the closely-ranked ABA Strumica 88-82 in the FYR Macedonian Prva Liga last Saturday. He recorded a double-double by scoring 15 points and getting 10 rebounds. Radunovic is currently sixth on the list of top scorers and also on the list of best rebounders (fourth place). This season he has very high stats. Radunovic averages: 15.3ppg, 7.7rpg, 2.5apg and 1.3spg.

   #9. Mensud Julevic (200-PF-85, currently plays in Slovenia) couldn't help one of league's weakest teams Elektra in their game against Rogaska in the Slovenian Telemach League. He scored 9 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 35 minutes. His team was edged 42-41. Julevic averaged so far 12.9ppg, 5.4rpg and 1.9apg in the 14 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Montenegrin and Slovenian. Despite Julevic's Montenegrin nationality, he previously played for the Slovenian U21 national team and probably cannot be called to the Montenegrin team.

   #10. Nikola Vucurovic (200-G/F-80, agency: Global Sports Plaza, currently plays in FYR Macedonia) contributed to an overtime Feni Indistrija's victory against the closely-ranked Kumanovo 2009 93-91 in the FYR Macedonian Prva Liga on Saturday night. Vucurovic scored 12 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 31 minutes. He has averaged so far 8.0ppg, 6.5rpg, 1.5apg and 1.5spg in the two games.   



Prva B Round 18: Centar BP defeat leader Berane Bobcats - 4 hours ago
There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in Prva B. The most crucial game of the last round was another loss of top-ranked Berane Bobcats (11-4) in Bijelo Polje on Tuesday night. Visitors were rolled over by third ranked Centar BP (8-8) 90-65. Newly promoted Centar BP maintains third position with 8-8 record having just two points less than leader Berane Bobcats. 24-year old point guard Bojan Ratkovic (183-PG-92) had a great game in the last round for Danilovgrad and receives a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 24. He had the game-high 17 points adding four rebounds and seven assists for Danilovgrad in his team's victory, helping them to beat Jedinstvo (#7, 8-14) 84-71. Talented Vasilije Knezevic (202-C-96) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Lovcen and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 23. The 20-year old center had a double-double of 25 points and thirteen rebounds, while his team beat Sutjeska (#4, 12-8) 89-80. The game was between two of the league's top four teams.
