Dutch Cup Finals: Eiffel Towers Win Dutch Cup
In Almere, in the race for the 2008
Dutch Cup championship, defending Dutch champions Eiffel Towers assured
themselves of adding to the trophy case collection in 2008, by taking control of
the game tempo in the 3rd quarter, and going on to defeat MyGuide Amsterdam by
the score of 93-82. The lead changed 14 times before Eiffel eventually took
advantage, leading by as much as 14 at one point. Eiffel shot well from the
three-point line, making 11, while MyGuide shot only 4 for 16.
Robert Owens
(201-F-82, college:
Ball St.)
led five Eiffel players in double figures with 19 pts.
Tamien Trent
(183-G-82, agency:
Strategic
Sports, college:

again in the Dutch FEB finals? Time will tell.

The Dutch FEB championship remains at least anothe ryear in Den
Bosch.
Thursday afternoon in the Horstacker, Eiffel Towers capped off an
amazing season by sweeping Matrixx Magixx and winning by the score
of 88-78. Like they have all season and during the entire series,
their incredible depth and 4th quarter kick proved their advantage,
with Eiffel reserves
Marcel Aarts (212-C-83, agency:
R.H.Consultancy) and
Robert Owens (201-F-82, college:
Ball St.) making important contributions in the 4th quarter run,
making it easier for
Leon Rodgers (199-F-80, college:
N.Illinois) to come in during crunch time to finish things off,
which he exactly did. After two Rodgers free throws and an alley-oop
dunk and three-pointer from Owens with under two minutes remaining,
it was all she wrote for Matrixx and champagne bottle popping time
for Eiffel. "Snoop"
Sam Jones (188-G-78, college:
Northwood) led Eiffel in scoring with 17 pts., Rodgers added 15
and Owens had 13. Matrixx were led in scoring by
Chris Carrawell (198-F-77, college:
Duke), who finished an excellent series with a game-high 31 pts.
Eiffel Towers wins the 14th Dutch title in Den Bosch's club history.
As for Matrixx Magixx, who won the Dutch Cup, hats off to head coach
Michael Schuurs and the Matrixx Magixx team, who were clearly
affected by the loss of FEB top scorer
Alhaji Mohammed (191-G-81, college:
Louisville), whose injured foot kept him out of the entire
playoffs. As for the 2006-07 and repeat Dutch FEB champion Eiffel
Towers, one question remains: which Dutch FEB team will emerge and
prove capable of slowing down and stopping the Eiffel Towers
Express? Only time will tell.
On behalf of Eurobasket Holland, many congratulations to head coach
Randy Wiel and the entire Eiffel Towers club.
Matrixx Magixx Wins Dutch Cup!
In the Sporthallen-Zuid on Sunday afternoon, Matrixx
Magixx took control of the game from start to finish,
with true grit and resilience doing the rest, en route
to winning over Hanzevast Capitals by the score of 70-60
to win the Dutch Cup. Matrixx showed from the start that
they wanted the title more, jumping out to an 8-2 start
and 21-10 end of 1s quarter lead. Hanzevast were never
really in sync offensively, playing a pedestrian game
and having no inside-outside balance. MM had no such
problem, with FEB top scorer
Alhaji Mohammed (191-G-81, college:
Louisville) being hard to guard (23 pts.) with
Mohammmed mixing it up from slashes to the basket and
making 4 total threes. The closest Hamzevast managed to
get to Matrixx was a short 3rd quarter run that brought
the score to 48-42 for Matrixx, but after a Matrixx
timeout, MM seized once again the momentum, raising the
bar once again to double digits lead. The last five
minutes of the game was clear that MM were the better
and hungrier team.
Darnell Hinson (186-G-80,
college:
Northeastern St.) would eventually lead all scorers
with 26 pts., with some of them coming after the result
already was decided. It was the first title for the
young Matrixx Magixx club, and whether these two teams
will meet again come playoff time remains to be seen.
