Eurobasket: Antonio Russell (183-G-84, college: W.Carolina), Congratulations on your excellent start to your season! After 7 games, you are leading the BLNO scoring with 3O.7 points per game, and have helped the Pirates to already win 3 games in league play.
Antonio: Thank you, I am enjoying playing in Norway, its a bit different from Germany where I played for the past two seasons (Aachen Muskateers Regionaliga West), Id say the BLNO allows more physical play than the German leagues do, but I feel like Im on top of my game and helping my teammates as well.
Eurobasket: Thats interesting, are you saying that the BLNO allows more fouling or hand-checking, this type of thing?
Antonio: Well I seem to be attracting a crowd when I have the ball, and maybe the defense in Norway is more aggressive on the perimeter than I am used to. But Ive made adjustments and I am thriving under Coach Mobbs system where its basically attack the basket on offense, so we are utilizing my shooting and penetration skills effectively so far Id say.
Eurobasket: Nice, how are your teammates feeling about you being the top scorer in most games?
Antonio: My teammates are great, they realize I have the abiity to break down the defense and either dish or score, our main focus is on getting wins, I dont get caught up in how many points Im scoring and neither do my teammates. In the end, If were getting the w it doesnt matter who scored what. Coach (Dan Mobbs ) has a nice system that rewards maximum effort from our players, including me, and its all focused on finding a way to win. Right now my role is to break down the defense and create scoring opportunities for myself and for my teammates, thats what a good point guard does. In our last game (Gimle) my top assignment or role was actually defense, and even though I scored 42, Coach pointed out after the game that my role defensively had more importance in the win than me scoring points.
Eurobasket: So Antonio, things are looking up for you and the Pirates, what are your plans for the future?
Antonio: Well right now Im enjoying life in Norway, its a beautiful country and although its hard living away from my wife and newborn son (Asante), Im focused on helping the Pirates win games by playing hard and doing the right thing both on and off the court. Who knows what will happen for the rest of this season and next year? Ive just gotta take it as it comes and leave it all on the court, thats the way Ive always operated, no point changing now.
Eurobasket: Ok, Antonio Russell of Kristiansand Pirates (BLNO) thanks so much for your time and best of luck to you in the coming games!

Cuban-American Juan Ferrales (188-G-91) had an amazing evening in the last round for league's leader Kongsberg and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 16. The 25-year old guard had the game-high 35 points adding eight rebounds and four assists for Kongsberg in his team's victory, helping them to edge out Centrum (#7, 9-10) 100-97. It allowed Kongsberg to consolidate first place in the Norwegian BLNO. Kongsberg have a solid 15-2 record. In the team's last game Ferrales had a remarkable 77.8% from 2-point range. He turned to be Kongsberg's top player in his first season with the team. Barry University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Ferrales is in league's top in points (3rd best: 25.1ppg), assists (3rd best: 5.3apg) and averages solid 59.9% FGP and 41.7% from behind 3-point line.
The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 34-year old DR Congolese power forward Djo Yele (203-F/C-82) of Asker Aliens. Yele impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 27 points and 17 rebounds. Of course Asker Aliens cruised to a 72-62 relatively comfortable win over the lower-ranked Ammerud Bskt (#9, 5-13). This victory allowed Asker Aliens to move up to 6th position in the standings. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 9-9 record is not bad and everything may still change. Yele is one of the most experienced players at Asker Aliens and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 21.5ppg (#5). His other stats are also decent: 13.2rpg and 3.1apg.
The third best performed player last round was Aksel Bolinz (201-G/F-90) of Centrum (#7). Bolinz scored 22 points and grabbed nineteen rebounds (!!!). Despite Bolinz's great performance Centrum lost 97-100 to the higher-ranked Kongsberg (#1, 15-2). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Centrum ranking at the top of the league, however are very questionable as they have already lost 10 games, recording just nine victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Bolinz could help Centrum to bring them higher in the standings. Bolinz has a great season in Norway. After 12 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 10.9rpg (5th best).
Other top performing players last week: 4. Eric Gilchrese (183-PG-87) of Baerum Basket - 16 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists 5. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
