BLNO Round 9: Baerum Basket beats Tromso by three after a very close game - Oct 28, 2012

The most exciting game of round 9 in the BLNO took place in Bekkestua. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of second-best Tromso (6-2) to sixth ranked Baerum Basket (3-5) 88-85 on Saturday evening. Strangely Tromso outrebounded Baerum Basket 49-36 including a 23-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Baerum Basket made 8 blocks. American players dominated the game. It was a good game for forward Keith Thompson (197-90, college: Utah Valley) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 13 rebounds and 7 blocks (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line). Swingman Ryan Ferranti (195-86, college: Rollins) contributed with 24 points for the winners. Forward Jonathan Jones (196-88, college: Kean) answered with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 32 rebounds for Tromso. Tromso's coach Kenneth Webb rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Baerum Basket moved-up to fifth place. Tromso at the other side keeps the second position with two games lost. Baerum Basket are looking forward to face Ammerud Bskt (#6) in Oslo in the next round. Tromso will play on the road against Asker Aliens (#7) and is hoping to win this game.
An interesting game for Centrum (9-1) which played road game in Bergen against 3rd placed Gimle BBK (5-4). First ranked Centrum managed to get a 10-point victory 77-67. Guard Christian Hinsch (186-88, agency: Court Side) stepped up and scored 18 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and Thomas Ble chipped in 22 points and 5 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American forward Delano Thomas (203-81, college: Shawnee St.) with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Centrum have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with 9-1 record. Gimle BBK at the other side keeps the third position with four games lost. Centrum will play against league's second-placed Tromso at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Gimle BBK will play against Froya Basket in Laksevag and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Mustafa Mahnin nailed 25 points (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) for the winning side. Edmunds Gabrans came up with 20 points and 5 rebounds for Froya Basket in the defeat. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Centrum. They maintain first place with 9-1 record. Froya Basket lost their third game in a row. Defending champion keeps the fourth position with six games lost. Centrum will meet at home league's second-placed Tromso in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Froya Basket will play against Gimle BBK in Bergen and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Asker supposed to be also worth to mention about. Second ranked Tromso (6-2) played at the court of 7th ranked Asker Aliens (1-7). Tromso smashed Asker Aliens 78-53. The best player for the winners was Jonathan Jones who had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots). Tromso's coach Kenneth Webb felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Tromso maintains second place with 6-2 record having five points less than leader Centrum. Asker Aliens at the other side stay at the bottom position with seven games lost. Tromso's next round opponent will be league's leader Centrum in Oslo and it will be for sure the game of the week. Asker Aliens will play again at home against the league's second-placed Tromso (#2).



Gimle BBK - Centrum 67-77

An interesting game for Centrum (9-1) which played road game in Bergen against 3rd placed Gimle BBK (5-4). First ranked Centrum managed to get a 10-point victory 77-67. The game was mostly controlled by Centrum. Gimle BBK was better in second period 20-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Gimle BBK 42-31 including a 34-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Guard Christian Hinsch (186-88, agency: Court Side) stepped up and scored 18 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and guard Thomas Ble (185-89) chipped in 22 points and 5 rebounds. Ble is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. The best for the losing side was American forward Delano Thomas (203-81, college: Shawnee St.) with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Anders Stien (195-90) scored 11 points and 7 rebounds. The game in Asker supposed to be also worth to mention about. Second ranked Tromso (6-2) played at the court of 7th ranked Asker Aliens (1-7). Tromso smashed Asker Aliens 78-53. The game was mostly controlled by Tromso. Asker Aliens was better in fourth quarter 16-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Asker Aliens to just 4 points in second quarter. The best player for the winners was American forward Jonathan Jones (196-88, college: Kean) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots). Naturalized American swingman Nicholas Phillip (187-90) chipped in 12 points. Tromso's coach Kenneth Webb felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Swedish forward Elias Westerlund (197-88) who recorded 16 points and 5 rebounds and forward Per Bertelsen (196-84) added 8 points and 7 rebounds respectively. An interesting game for Centrum (9-1) which played road game in Laksevag against 4th placed Froya Basket (4-6). First ranked Centrum managed to get a 11-point victory 100-89. Centrum dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Froya Basket's 32. Centrum forced 19 Froya Basket turnovers. The former international point guard Mustafa Mahnin (182-80) nailed 25 points (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) for the winning side and the former international forward Frank Nyborg (197-83) accounted for 16 points and 13 rebounds. Latvian guard Edmunds Gabrans (190-79) came up with 20 points and 5 rebounds and guard Alain Nzeyimana (-90) added 15 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Froya Basket in the defeat. Nordberg, Fyllingen BBK and Aalesund Sharks celebrated Division 1 titles in Norway. Nordberg won Division 1 East title with a 19-3 record. In the last game they beat OSI 57-51 as Bendik Aunan (185-PG-90) stepped up with 14 points. Halvor Poulsson (191-F-91) and Emil Aas Stoltenberg followed him with 13 each, while Joacim Bergh added 8.
