BLNO Round 10: #1 Centrum is defeated by Tromso - Nov 6, 2012

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of top-ranked Centrum (9-2) in Oslo on Saturday night. Hosts were rolled over by second ranked Tromso (8-2) 89-70. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Centrum. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Tromso. Centrum managed to win third quarter 21-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Tromso dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Centrum's 38 and made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. American forward Jonathan Jones (196-88, college: Kean) had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 18 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import guard Gary Wallace (187-88, college: Robert Morris, agency: TSS Management) chipped in 24 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side guard Thomas Ble (185-89) responded with 17 points and 9 rebounds. Tromso have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 8-2 record behind leader Centrum. Centrum at the other side still keeps top place with two games lost. Tromso are looking forward to face Froya Basket (#4) in Laksevag in the next round. Centrum will play at home against Gimle BBK in Bergen and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Gimle BBK (5-5) against fifth ranked Froya Basket (5-6) on Tuesday night. Host Gimle BBK was defeated by Froya Basket in a tough game in Bergen 78-85. Latvian guard Edmunds Gabrans (190-79) notched 33 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and Reno Silavs supported him with 18 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Even 32 points by guard Anders Stien (195-90) did not help to save the game for Gimle BBK. Defending champion moved-up to fourth place. Gimle BBK lost third consecutive game. They keep the third position with five games lost. Froya Basket will play against league's second-placed Tromso on the road in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Gimle BBK will play against Ammerud Bskt in Oslo and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Bottom-ranked Asker Aliens managed to get a second victory on Thursday night. This time they won against sixth-ranked Ammerud Bskt in Oslo 68-63. Elias Westerlund fired 26 points for the winners. Ronald Timus produced 24 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for lost side. Ammerud Bskt's coach Kelvin Woods rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Asker Aliens maintains seventh position with 2-8 record. Loser Ammerud Bskt keeps the sixth place with seven games lost. Asker Aliens will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Ammerud Bskt will play against Gimle BBK (#3) in Bergen and hope to secure a win.
The game in Asker supposed to be also worth to mention about. Second ranked Tromso (8-2) played at the court of 7th ranked Asker Aliens (2-8). Tromso smashed Asker Aliens 83-62. Worth to mention a great performance of Hani Issalhi who helped to win the game recording 20 points, 5 assists and 5 steals. Tromso have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 8-2 record behind leader Centrum. Asker Aliens at the other side stay at the bottom place with eight games lost. Tromso's next round opponent will be Froya Basket (#4) in Laksevag.

In the last game of round 10 Ammerud Bskt lost to Baerum Basket on the opponent's court 70-84.



Gimle BBK - Froya Basket 78-85

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Gimle BBK (5-5) against fifth ranked Froya Basket (5-6) on Tuesday night. Host Gimle BBK was defeated by Froya Basket in a tough game in Bergen 78-85. Gimle BBK was tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. Froya Basket forced 20 Gimle BBK turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Latvian guard Edmunds Gabrans (190-79) notched 33 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and Latvian point guard Reno Silavs (180-91) supported him with 18 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. The game between closely ranked teams ended with 6th ranked Ammerud Bskt's (2-7) road loss to fifth ranked Baerum Basket (4-5) 70-84. The game without a history. Baerum Basket led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Worth to mention a great performance of American swingman Ryan Ferranti (195-86, college: Rollins) who helped to win the game recording 15 points and 6 rebounds. The other American import forward Keith Thompson (197-90, college: Utah Valley) contributed with 15 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American swingman Ronald Timus (197-84, college: Morgan St.) replied with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and guard Brian Mariampillai (187-85) added 20 points in the effort for Ammerud Bskt. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Baerum Basket maintains fifth position with 4-5 record. The game in Asker supposed to be also worth to mention about. Second ranked Tromso (8-2) played at the court of 7th ranked Asker Aliens (2-8). Tromso smashed Asker Aliens 83-62. It looked good early as Asker Aliens took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Tromso had a 25-14 second period charge getting the lead and Asker Aliens were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 62-83. Tromso dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Asker Aliens' 40. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Hani Issalhi (187-84) who helped to win the game recording 20 points, 5 assists and 5 steals.
