BLNO Round 7: Baerum Basket beats Froya Basket in the most crucial game of the week - Nov 10, 2016

The round was rather attractive and full of interesting results. The round ended with defeat of the leader and derby games.

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Bekkestua. Fourth ranked Baerum Basket faced 4th placed Froya Basket. Host Baerum Basket (6-3) defeated guests from Laksevag (7-3) 103-87. The game was mostly controlled by Baerum Basket. Froya Basket managed to win third quarter 25-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Baerum Basket made 22-of-27 free shots (81.5 percent) during the game, while Froya Basket only scored six points from the stripe. Baerum Basket forced 25 Froya Basket turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Point guard Stian Mjos (183-89) fired 31 points and 7 assists for the winners. American point guard Eric Gilchrese (183-87, college: New Hampshire) chipped in 25 points and 5 assists. Baerum Basket's coach Matthias Eckhoff used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Jamell Harris (206-91, college: E.Michigan) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds for lost side. Baerum Basket have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain fourth place with 6-3 record. Froya Basket at the other side still keeps top position with three games lost. Baerum Basket are looking forward to face Ammerud Bskt (#8) in Oslo in the next round. Froya Basket will play at home against the league's second-placed Kongsberg (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Persbraten will play on the road against Nidaros Jets (#5) in Tromdheim and hopes to get finally their first victory.

The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Gimle BBK. They moved-up to third place. Loser Tromso dropped to the ninth position with seven games lost. Gimle BBK will meet at home league's second-placed Kongsberg in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Tromso will play against Asker Aliens (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

It was an exceptional evening for Jamell Harris who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 15 rebounds and 7 blocks. Asker Aliens' coach Lars Gunnar Sonsteby tested ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Froya Basket keeps a position of league leader. Asker Aliens at the other side keep the seventh place with five games lost. Froya Basket's next round opponent will be league's second-placed Kongsberg at home and it will be for sure the game of the week. Asker Aliens will play against Tromso (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last game of round 7 Centrum was defeated by Nidaros Jets in Tromdheim 82-68.

The game in Asker was also worth to mention about. Fourth ranked Froya Basket (7-3) played at the court of 7th ranked Asker Aliens (3-5). Froya Basket managed to secure a 9-point victory 80-71. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Asker Aliens. The guests were already 11 points ahead at halftime and as many as 21 after three quarters before a 26-14 last quarter charge of Asker Aliens cut the lead to 80-71 at the end of the game. They outrebounded Asker Aliens 42-30 including 34 on the defensive glass. Froya Basket brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Jamell Harris (206-91, college: E.Michigan) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 15 rebounds and 7 blocks. Latvia guard Edmunds Gabrans (188-79) accounted for 12 points, 7 rebounds and 11 assists for the winning side. DR Congolese power forward Djo Yele (203-82) came up with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks and Latvia forward Alvis Eglitis (195-85) added 12 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Asker Aliens in the defeat. Everything could happen in Tromdheim at the game between two tied teams. Both fifth ranked Nidaros Jets and 6th ranked Centrum had identical 4-4 record. This time Nidaros Jets used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Oslo 82-68 on Saturday night. The game was mostly controlled by Nidaros Jets. Centrum was better in third quarter 23-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Nidaros Jets dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Centrum's 36. They outrebounded Centrum 49-31 including 17 on the offensive glass. Kenya Earl Simba (204-92) fired a double-double by scoring 32 points, 19 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Forward Jakob Baiden (194-93) chipped in 13 points and 7 rebounds. Nidaros Jets' coach Luke Jenkinson allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Point guard Thomas Mjos (181-90) produced 25 points and 4 assists (made all of his ten free throws !!!) and Dutch Tim Hilhorst (-87) added 18 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively for lost side. Nidaros Jets maintains fifth place with 5-4 record. Centrum lost their third game in a row. Defending champion keeps the sixth position with five games lost. Nidaros Jets will face bottom-ranked Persbraten (#10) in Oslo in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Centrum's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Oslo to the arena Ammerud Bskt.

Montana head men's basketball coach Travis DeCuire has added depth to the Grizzly backcourt, signing 6-1 point guard Lars Espe (5'11''-PG-98) from the Gimle BBK club in Bergen, Norway, to a National Letter of Intent on Monday. Nordberg, Fyllingen BBK and Aalesund Sharks celebrated Division 1 titles in Norway. Nordberg won Division 1 East title with a 19-3 record. In the last game they beat OSI 57-51 as Bendik Aunan (185-PG-90) stepped up with 14 points. Halvor Poulsson (191-F-91) and Emil Aas Stoltenberg followed him with 13 each, while Joacim Bergh added 8.
