BLNO Round 15: Froya Basket is defeated by Asker Aliens - Jan 9, 2017

The game between third ranked Froya Basket (11-5) and seventh ranked Asker Aliens (8-9) was the most important one in the last round on Saturday night. Froya Basket was defeated by Asker Aliens in a tough game in Laksevag 66-72. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Froya Basket. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 15-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 72-66. Asker Aliens dominated on the defensive end, holding Froya Basket to just 6 points in second quarter. They outrebounded Froya Basket 39-28 including 29 on the defensive glass. 26 personal fouls committed by Froya Basket helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for ICEn guard Sigurtor Sigurtorsson (190-97) who led his team to a victory scoring 24 points. Latvian forward Alvis Eglitis (195-85) helped adding 8 points and 15 rebounds. The best for the losing side was guard Ali Ouakkaha (187-90, college: Cuesta JC) with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Froya Basket's coach Brent Hackman rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Asker Aliens maintains seventh place with 8-9 record. Froya Basket at the other side keeps the third position with five games lost. Asker Aliens are looking forward to face Ammerud Bskt (#9) in Oslo in the next round. Froya Basket will have a break next round.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Tromdheim. 4th placed host Nidaros Jets (10-8) were smashed by first ranked Kongsberg (14-2) 116-49. It was an exceptional evening for British forward Solomon Rolls-Tyson (203, college: E.Utah JC, agency: Mansfield and Associates) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Juan Ferrales accounted for 22 points and 8 rebounds. Forward Jakob Baiden (194-93) came up with 8 points and 6 rebounds for Nidaros Jets in the defeat. Nidaros Jets' coach Luke Jenkinson gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Kongsberg have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place with 14-2 record. Nidaros Jets lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fourth position with eight games lost. They share it with Gimle BBK. Kongsberg will play against Centrum (#6) in Oslo in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Nidaros Jets will have a break next round.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 15: bottom-ranked Persbraten were destroyed by Gimle BBK on the opponent's court 108-59. Ammerud Bskt unfortunately lost to Tromso in a home game 65-71. Tromso recorded a loss to Centrum on the road 68-75. Gimle BBK defeated Asker Aliens on its own court 90-73.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 19 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists by Nick Victor of Gimle BBK.

Gimle BBK - Persbraten 108-59

Very expected game in Bergen where 10th ranked Persbraten (1-15) was crushed by fifth ranked Gimle BBK (10-8) 108-59. The game without a history. Gimle BBK led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Persbraten's 24. Gimle BBK forced 20 Persbraten turnovers and outrebounded them 45-23 including a 17-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Nick Victor (196-92, college: Yale) who led the winners and scored 19 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Swingman Magne Fivelstad (198-89, college: Barry) accounted for 16 points and 11 rebounds for the winning side. Five Gimle BBK players scored in double figures. Hungarian-Swedish guard Zoltan Kurinczky (181-82) came up with 17 points and 4 assists and Swedish guard Aron Furstenberg (192-88) added 13 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Persbraten in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Gimle BBK moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Nidaros Jets. Persbraten lost seventh consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom position with 15 games lost. Gimle BBK will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Persbraten will play on the road against the league's second-placed Baerum Basket (#2) in Bekkestua to get more than just one victory in their record.

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams in Oslo where ninth ranked Tromso (6-13) defeated 8th ranked Ammerud Bskt (5-12) 71-65. The guests were already 15 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 23-14 Ammerud Bskt's run in the last quarter cut the lead to 71-65 at the end of the game. It was an exceptional evening for guard Hani Issalhi (191-84) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 20 rebounds and 5 assists. Point guard Aslak Smalas (186-89) accounted for 17 points for the winning side. Four Tromso players scored in double figures. American-German forward Marco Sanders (202-79, college: Point Park) came up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and guard Samuel Amed Diomande (193-88) added 15 points and 4 assists respectively for Ammerud Bskt in the defeat. Tromso moved-up to eighth place. Ammerud Bskt at the other side dropped to the ninth position with 12 games lost. Not a big story in a game in Oslo where 9th ranked Tromso (6-13) was defeated by sixth ranked Centrum (9-9) 75-68. Tromso was ahead by 2 points at the halftime before a 34-25 second half run of Centrum. They dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Tromso's 32. They outrebounded Tromso 40-27 including a 33-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for swingman Aksel Bolinz (201-90, college: N.Illinois) who led the winners and scored 21 points and 7 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Nordberg, Fyllingen BBK and Aalesund Sharks celebrated Division 1 titles in Norway. Nordberg won Division 1 East title with a 19-3 record. In the last game they beat OSI 57-51 as Bendik Aunan (185-PG-90) stepped up with 14 points. Halvor Poulsson (191-F-91) and Emil Aas Stoltenberg followed him with 13 each, while Joacim Bergh added 8.
