Brazil and Argentina picked up victories Saturday to claim berths in next year's London Olympics.

Brazil defeated the Dominican Republic 83-76, and Argentina beat Puerto Rico 81-79 in the semi-finals of the Olympic basketball qualifying for the Americas.

The two finalists meet Sunday and qualify automatically for London. The third through fifth-placed teams earn spots in a qualifying tournament just before the games, which will award several more berths for London. Venezuela claimed the fifth-placed spot.

The United States won the world championship last year and has already qualified for London.

Brazil and Argentina were the two favoured teams in the tournament and had the best records in two rounds of qualifying..

Marcelo Magalhaes (199-F/G-75, agency: Interperformances) led Brazil with 20 points in the semi-final victory with 19 for teammate Marcelinho Huertas (191-PG-83, agency: Edge Sports).

Alfred Horford (208-F/C-86, college: Florida) and Jack Michael Martinez (203-F/C-81, agency: Paris Global Sports) topped the Dominican Republic with 18.

We have realized a dream, Machado said. We have worked hard for this, and this is a prize for effort and talent.

The Dominican Republic led twice by three points in the second quarter, but trailed 39-36 at the break. The game was always close and the Dominican Republic drew level at 45 after a basket by Horford with 5:01 left in the third quarter.

Argentina just did enough to win their semi-final after fighting back from 48-40 down in the third quarter.

Puerto Rico tied the game at 79-79 on Daniel Daniel Santiago (216-C-76, agency: Priority Sports, college: N.Mexico)'s basket in close with 1:52 to play, but could not regain the lead.

Luis Scola (206-F/C-80) led Argentina with 27 points and Emanuel Ginobili (198-G-77, agency: Interperformances) added 23. Jose Juan Barea (181-PG-84, college: Northeastern) had 20 for Puerto Rico and Daniel Santiago scored 16.
