Theodoros
Papaloukas
In his first 20 only days as a captain of the Greek National Team, he already is with two trophies in his arms (the first one came a few days ago in the international German Supercup Tournament). Theodoros Papaloukas (200-G-77, agency: Interperformances), tallied up in favor of the Hellenic Basketball Federations site, the summarized outcome from the Acropolis Eurobank tournament , which was -traditionally- owned by the undefeated Hellas team.
Q: In this tournament our National team came up against Brazil, its great rival from the first round of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament. What do you make of their dynamic and their competitiveness from that match?
T. P. : The important thing for us, is how we play not the manor in which our rivals choose to compete. We presented an overall pleasing character, we showed punctuality, but these are preparation games. What is crucial is our acts in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
Q: Is there something that has to be remedied in Hellas teams game, so that it can be 100% ready to participate in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament?
T. P. : Stability could be brought on with a bit more conviction. We experienced some blank periods, whilst committing a few mistakes. Mistakes, of course, are a normal thing to have, but limiting their number is something we must succeed in doing if we want to reach the goals we have set.
Q: The absences of Kakiouzis, Dikoudis, Papadopoulos and Chatzivrettas have affected you, the guys from the previous national team?
T. P. : When the teams roster changes it somewhat strange and peculiar, but life goes on for all of us. At some point we to will leave and others will come to fill our spots, just as we succeeded our predecessors. Its a natural evolving phenomenon. The important thing in the national team is that it is built in such a way that the way the new comers are added, the possibility from them to learn from its older members exists thus gaining smother adaptation and a healthy flow.
Q: Was the teams chemistry, something that was broadly discussed after all the new additions, fluctuated at all?
T. P. : We had good chemistry in all the teams before, we have good chemistry now. We tried to follow our coachs instructions down to his very last word and we all try our best. We dont have much time ahead for preparation, but, we have bonded quite well and apparently we are improving game by game. The same thing goes for the teams atmosphere. It was and it remains in an upbeat tempo. I believe that our national team is on track.
Q: In the Acropolis-Eurobank tournament you got a good whiff of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament, competing in front off a Hellenic crowd being another reason on top
T. P. : The people that came were a great help, but, all that is of importance begin now. That is why we need them next to us, to support us and make the official matches sold out, feeling the Olympic Athletic Centre of Athens arena. Though what we have overtaken is not an easy aspiration, our fans can make it seem so...
